PART 2
Yan He stared, dumbfounded, as the two characters for “He Ting” on the nameplate gradually disappeared in the flames.
!!!!
Holy crap! Is he serious? He just melted it, just like that?
He Ting was clearly familiar with refining gold. He methodically used the chemicals and equipment until he finally extracted the sponge gold, then melted it again into liquid gold, and poured it into the mold Yan He had prepared.
A moment later, He Ting took a small, glittering gold ingot from the cool water and tossed it onto a digital scale. The LED screen displayed exactly 20 grams.
The young man leaned against the lab bench, his long fingers resting on the small ingot. He gently pushed it towards Yan He. “A token of my sincerity, you little money-grubber.”
!!!!
Twenty grams! Based on today’s gold recycling price, that was at least sixteen thousand yuan!
Yan He picked up the small ingot and examined it. He had just used the lab equipment to test its purity; it was 999 pure gold. He couldn’t believe that this thing had been a black and gold nameplate worn over He Ting’s heart just a moment ago.
Where else could he find such a sincere boss?
Being a lackey for Yun Xiao was a job, and being a lackey for He Ting was a job. What was the difference?!
Besides, even if he didn’t agree, the F4’s lackeys were practically shared property.
Just look at Pan Ze. He was originally Shen Shao’s number one lackey, but now he was following Yun Xiao. And he still had to deliver breakfast to He Ting this morning, didn’t he?
If He Ting really wanted to order him around, he wouldn’t be able to refuse anyway.
Since he couldn’t refuse, he might as well enjoy it. Only a fool would turn down free money!
If the other two F4 members also took a liking to him, couldn’t he earn four salaries at once? A man could dream.
He Ting noticed the bright sparkle in Yan He’s eyes. He seemed about to speak, and He Ting knew what he would say. After all, he had never failed to get what he wanted. As expected, Yan He blurted out, “A hundred thousand. Is that before or after tax?”
The taxes in this empire were no joke! The highest income tax bracket could be up to half!
He Ting better not be playing word games, ending up with the same net pay as with Yun Xiao.
“…After tax,” He Ting said.
Yan He immediately took off his glove and extended his hand to He Ting, his face full of sincerity. “I’ll take the job.”
There’s no shame in earning money these days!
Who’s to say you can’t have a side hustle while holding a full-time job?
Yun Shao never said he couldn’t work for multiple companies.
He Ting looked down at the slender, fair hand. He took off his own glove and gently shook it. Yan He’s body heat seemed to penetrate through his skin, spreading through his veins. It was surprisingly hot.
An indescribable bestial urge broke free like a giant beast from its cage. He Ting’s expression shifted, his body tensing unconsciously. He abruptly pulled his hand away and took two steps back, sizing up Yan He.
What a strange person. He could so easily restore his sanity and bring him back to his human form, yet he could also just as easily cause his beastly urges to surge.
He Ting looked down and asked with an ambiguous tone, “I’ve shown you how it’s done. Did you learn?”
Yan He recalled He Ting’s previous actions, picked up Pan Ze’s nameplate, and nodded. “I learned.”
But why didn’t He Ting melt them together? Then he would have had a bigger gold ingot. Of course, Yan He didn’t dare to ask that out loud.
Was it because everyone in the F4 thought they were superior? That others, even just their nameplates, couldn’t be mixed with their own?
He Ting walked towards the changing room. “I want you to melt that nameplate with your own hands,” he said firmly.
And personally crush the foolish hopes of certain people.
Yan He followed He Ting’s example and began to refine the gold. He was a quick learner, and each step was done with practiced ease.
From behind the wall came the sound of suppressed panting, half-human, half-beast.
Yan He’s attention was fully focused on the lab bench. After a series of procedures, he produced a small gold nugget. Because he suspected He Ting might be a germaphobe, he didn’t make it into an ingot, just a simple nugget.
Oh yeah! I made a fortune tonight! A net profit of twenty-four thousand!
Seeing that it was getting late, Yan He decided to leave. He went to the changing room door and asked, a little worried, “He Shao, are you done changing? Are you still there?”
He Ting’s slightly strained voice came from inside. “You can go first.”
Hearing this, Yan He didn’t ask any more questions. He quickly left with his earnings for the night.
Just after Yan He left, He Ting came out of the changing room. His uniform was slightly disheveled, and a black and gold striped tiger tail swayed behind him. He threw a crumpled piece of white paper into the trash can.
Looking at the untidy lab bench, He Ting frowned and began to clean up the mess Yan He had left behind.
A piece of paper remained on the table. It was the notes Yan He had taken while watching the gold refining video.
The handwriting wasn’t particularly neat, but as his fingertips touched it, He Ting looked back, and the tiger tail that he couldn’t retract no matter what had disappeared.
He Ting picked up the paper, suppressed the beastly urge in his eyes, and lowered his head to kiss it gently.
Unfortunately, unlike the disappearing tiger tail, the beastly urge only grew stronger.
Yan He quickly left the chemistry building. In the moonlight, he was startled by a figure huddled on the steps.
He leaned in for a closer look. “Bai Yuzhou? What happened to you?”
He was covered in scratches and wounds on his body and neck, clearly from an animal attack. The bloodstains were particularly frightening.
“Were you attacked by a beast? I’ll take you to the school clinic!”
Yan He knew it. What kind of noble academy is built in the middle of a forest? It would be strange if nothing happened. The author must have had rocks in their head to come up with such a setting.
Yan He was worried that the protagonist shou would die before the story even really started. That would be a disaster.
Without another word, he immediately helped the extremely weak Bai Yuzhou to his feet, draping his arm over his shoulder. “Can you still move?” he asked with concern.
Yan He was anxious. This academy was great in some ways, but not so great in others. The public transport stopped running at night, and there were no shared bikes or electric scooters. It was hard to even transport a person.
His desire to get his driver’s license as soon as possible grew even stronger.
Bai Yuzhou bit his pale lip, unable to form a complete sentence. “I… I…”
He looked at Yan He’s shoulder and, as if making a decision, gently rested his head on it.
His roommate… smelled so good.
This was a human life at stake. It was still unclear what kind of beast had attacked Bai Yuzhou. Yan He was already considering going back to the chemistry lab to ask his new boss, He Ting, for help.
After all, the F4 were all destined to have a love-hate relationship with the protagonist shou. There was nothing wrong with him giving their relationship a little push.
If He Ting wasn’t willing, then he would have to carry Bai Yuzhou to the school clinic himself.
Just as he was thinking, a pair of blindingly bright headlights appeared in front of the chemistry building. It was Pan Ze’s emerald green luxury car.
Yun Xiao had left the basketball game early, but before he left, he had told Pan Ze to pick up Yan He from the chemistry building.
In order to squeeze Yan He out and become Yun Xiao’s number one lackey, Pan Ze was willing to do anything.
As soon as he drove up to the building, he saw Yan He and Bai Yuzhou all tangled up together. He immediately switched on his high beams. Blind them!
“Senior Pan, help! My roommate was attacked by an unknown beast, he’s dying!” Yan He cursed the hooligan driver for using high beams in the city, then called out to Pan Ze for help as he got out of the car.
Pan Ze touched the bleeding wounds under his own clothes, which were screaming with pain. He looked at the frail Bai Yuzhou, who looked like a gust of wind could blow him away, and thought he had misheard. “What? He’s… dying?”
Yan He let Bai Yuzhou lean his full weight on him. “Yes, it’s very serious. He needs to go to the school clinic immediately.”
He wasn’t sure if Pan Ze would help. After all, Bai Yuzhou had thrown up all over him.
Pan Ze roared in disbelief, “Shameless! He’s so shameless! How is he dying? He’s perfectly fine!”
Pan Ze was too embarrassed to admit in front of Yan He that he, a mighty African spotted hyena, had lost a fight to this inferior arctic wolf! He hadn’t expected this batch of specially-enrolled students to actually have an SSR-level beast.
Damn specially-enrolled student! He clearly won the fight, but now he’s acting all weak in front of Yan He? What a bitch!
Pan Ze shouted, “Yan He, don’t believe him! He’s a liar, a green tea bitch!”
Painful moans came from Bai Yuzhou beside him. He was trembling in pain. Yan He immediately retorted, “You think I can’t tell if he’s a green tea bitch or not?”
Pan Ze: Son of a bitch. I’ve been taking shit all night. My whole worldview is crumbling. 🙂
