Extra 5: An Jing x Lu Yuqi (3)
An Jing was still filming his show and only had time to call Lu Yuqi in the evening. Even over the phone, he could imagine the kid’s sulky little expression and wondered who had pissed him off.
“Did you watch my new variety show?”
Lu Yuqi coldly bit out two words: “I did not.”
An Jing didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Who really got you mad? Tell Gege, huh?”
Lu Yuqi snorted through his nose. “Moron.”
An Jing felt he was beyond saving. How could he find Lu Yuqi so cute even when he was cursing him out? The kid wore a sour face every day. It seemed he really was a masochist.
Which moron is he talking about… An Jing suddenly got it. Wait, could it be him? Had he made Qiqi angry? The kid definitely watched his new show.
He had just watched the final cut of the first episode himself. The production team had intentionally edited it to ship him and Liang Meiman as a couple, complete with pink, bubbly special effects.
At this thought, An Jing’s mood lightened considerably. “Qiqi, you’re not… jealous, are you?”
Lu Yuqi: “Only a moron would be jealous.”
An Jing: “And aren’t you just my little moron?”
Lu Yuqi: “Are you disgusting or what?”
“Alright, don’t be angry. There’s really nothing between me and Liang Meiman. She is intentionally trying to get close to me, but you’re the only one in my heart. I have zero interest in her.”
“I just figured it wouldn’t look good to reject her so directly on camera. If it makes you unhappy, I’ll keep my distance from her from now on. And, I’ll talk to the production team and tell them to stop shipping me with her.”
“After all, I’m already spoken for.”
Hearing this, Lu Yuqi’s mood instantly went from stormy to sunny. The corners of his mouth tilted up slightly, though his tone was still cocky. “You’d better mean that.”
“But of course. Oh, right, I wanted to tell you something.”
“What?”
Besides the permanent guests, the show invites a guest star every episode. An Jing was thinking of having Lu Yuqi come over and join in.
“Listen, the scenery in the village is amazing. The air is so fresh, it’s beautiful, birds are singing, flowers are blooming, it’s a paradise…”
Lu Yuqi cut him off coolly, “You’re just trying to trick me into doing manual labor.”
“How could I? I just want to see you. Look, we haven’t seen each other in over half a month. I miss you so much, Qiqi. Don’t you miss me? Just come, okay? Hmm?”
He’s a grown man, acting all coy. Has he no shame? Lu Yuqi grumbled internally, but a hint of a smile touched his eyes. He reluctantly agreed, “Well… alright, then.”
Besides, it’s a good chance to meet that Liang Meiman.
Two days later, Lu Yuqi packed a simple bag and headed to the filming location. After getting off the plane, he had to take another three-hour car ride to finally reach the destination.
It really was a beautiful village.
With the cameraman following, the young man dragged his suitcase down the village’s concrete path, flanked by farmland and vegetable patches. A creek by the roadside was crystal clear, and he could even see small fish darting around inside.
Young Master Lu had lived in the big city his whole life and had never been to the countryside. His interest piqued, he crouched by the creek and stuck his hands into the icy water, trying to catch a fish with his bare hands. But after several attempts, he came up empty.
He was a little discouraged. “How do these fish move so fast…”
Suddenly, Lu Yuqi felt a pair of eyes on his back. He turned to find a fierce-looking black “Zhonghua Tianyuanquan” (Chinese rural dog) staring at him menacingly.
Dog: “Woof, woof, woof!”
Lu Yuqi: “Ah!!! Don’t come over here!”
The young man stood frozen in terror, pointing a trembling finger at the dog’s head. The cameraman beside him couldn’t help but laugh, kindly consoling him, “It’s fine, dogs are usually afraid of people.”
“It looks like it wants to eat me!”
It was a standoff. As man and dog faced off, the sound of a motor suddenly came from up the road, along with a loud shout: “Lu! Yu! Qi!”
Lu Yuqi turned his head. That familiar figure was currently sitting on… a three-wheeled flatbed, and it was a convertible.
The man was wearing a pair of black high-top rain boots, cotton work gloves, and a straw hat. He was put-putting the three-wheeler slowly in their direction.
So… rustic.
“…” Lu Yuqi’s mouth twitched. Under the dog’s watchful eye, he carefully shuffled to the side, then grabbed his suitcase and sprinted forward, running for his life.
“Quick, quick, stop the truck!”
An Jing had barely stopped when Young Master Lu hurriedly tossed his suitcase into the back and scrambled in himself, urging An Jing to drive before that “Dog Bro” caught up and bit him.
“Alright, sit tight!” An Jing was laughing heartily as he drove. He never thought the Arrogant King, who feared nothing, would be afraid of a dog. He’d run so fast, even with a suitcase.
This kid is always biting people, but he’s afraid of being bitten by a dog.
Lu Yuqi sat resentfully on the “convertible luxury car,” wanting to curse up a storm, but with the camera rolling, he could only swear silently in his head. Then he asked An Jing, “An… An Laoshi, what are you doing here?”
An Jing, still driving, smiled. “Isn’t this a special trip to pick you up? I heard you’d arrived, so I immediately dropped my hoe and came right over. How about it? Touched?”
Lu Yuqi: “You really did trick me into coming here to do farm work.”
Meanwhile, the cameraman and the black dog, still standing in their original spot, were both stunned.
“…”
Why’d they run off so fast? Wait for me!
Two minutes later, the three-wheeler stopped in front of a house. This must be where they were staying. An Jing grabbed the suitcase, and Lu Yuqi followed him inside.
The house looked pretty good. It was made of wood with a tile roof, clearly quite old. There was a courtyard out front with fruit trees, flowers, and plants, and a small vegetable patch to the side growing greens, onions, ginger, and garlic.
It looked very comfortable, with a “return to simplicity” vibe.
“Yuqi, you’re here! I’ve been waiting for you!”
“Long time no see.”
The other four guests came out to greet Lu Yuqi. He knew Han Yun’er and Qin He. It was his first time meeting Ma Yutao and Liang Meiman, so he greeted them politely.
“Lu Yuqi, right? You’re a handsome young man. I’ve even seen you in ‘Legend of Kyushu’,” Liang Meiman said with a bright smile, shaking his hand.
Since she was being so polite, Lu Yuqi had no reason to give her a sour face. He smiled back at Liang Meiman. “Meiman-jie, hello.”
Liang Meiman was indeed beautiful, even more radiant when she smiled, and her voice was sweet. “An Jing picked you up just now, right? You two seem to have a pretty good relationship.”
An Jing nodded. “Mm, it’s pretty good.”
“You have a smudge of dirt on your face. Must have gotten it while working. Let me wipe it for you,” Liang Meiman said, reaching out to wipe An Jing’s face. Lu Yuqi shot him a look.
An Jing immediately flinched back, dodging Liang Meiman’s hand, and said jokingly, “How could I trouble Liang Laoshi? I can wipe it myself.”
He casually wiped his face. “Um, I’ll take Yuqi to see our room first.”
Liang Meiman smiled as if nothing had happened. “Sure, go ahead.”
Phew… close call. An Jing sighed in relief and led Lu Yuqi into the house, carefully observing his expression. Thankfully, no change.
Just as he was feeling relieved again, a sharp pain shot through his foot. He barely managed to stifle a yelp. The culprit was looking at him with an apologetic face. “Ah, I’m so sorry, I accidentally stepped on your foot. Are you okay?”
Accidentally? That was clearly on purpose!
An Laoshi gritted his teeth and smiled. “I’m fine.”
Damn! This little bastard… he really doesn’t hold back!
“Here’s the room. Go take a look.”
“Qin He and Ma Laoshi are in one room, so you’ll be rooming with me.”
The room wasn’t large, with two double beds. One was neatly made, showing no signs of use. The other was by the window, which must be An Jing’s, and it was also… neatly made.
In Lu Yuqi’s memory, An Jing’s bed at home was usually a mess, like a dog had slept in it. As expected, this damn man really cared about his image on camera. Who knew how many fans had been fooled by this decent-looking act.
An Jing: “You must be tired from the trip. You rest for a bit. I still have to go to the field and pull the rest of the weeds.”
Lu Yuqi: “Wait, I’ll go with you.”
“That works too.” An Jing thought sweetly, Qiqi must not want me to work so hard, he wants to share the burden. How nice.
The sun here was still quite bright. Lu Yuqi sprayed himself with sunscreen, and noticing the man next to him giving him a look, he naturally sprayed him a few times too.
“You’re pulling weeds, what’s everyone else doing?”
An Jing replied, “The two girls are staying behind to make dinner. Qin He and Ma Laoshi are going to the pond to catch fish.”
“Catch fish?” Lu Yuqi’s interest was instantly piqued. He hadn’t managed to catch any in the creek earlier. He made a happy decision. “Then I’ll go help them catch fish. You can go pull weeds by yourself. Sucks to be you.”
An Jing: “…” Doesn’t your conscience hurt!
Seeing the young man’s excited expression, An Jing finally gave in. Fine, I’ll pull the weeds tomorrow. I don’t want to be separated from Lu Yuqi. Accompanying my little bastard to catch fish is more important.
And so, the four of them put on waterproof waders, grabbed nets and buckets, and headed to the pond.
Being twenty, after all, Lu Yuqi was the first to charge excitedly into the pond, swiping randomly with his net. He actually managed to catch a small fish, about half the size of his palm.
“I caught one! Look!”
He held the flopping fish in his hand, a happy and proud smile on his face. His gaze was fixed on An Jing, his eyes sparkling, like a child waiting for praise from a parent.
The man’s eyes crinkled with a smile. “Our Qiqi is amazing.”
