Chapter 24: Speaking Out Part 1
Ning Yunyi was squatting when he was suddenly pounced on. Since he didn’t sense any danger, he didn’t fight back.
However, noticing something was off, he didn’t immediately push the big cat away. Instead, he extended his spiritual energy to envelop Ning Xiaomiao entirely.
At the same time, the alarm at the door went off, confirming Ning Yunyi’s suspicion.
Someone had arrived—and not just one person.
The system he had set up triggered an alert when more than five people approached within 100 meters.
“Master, twenty-one people are approaching within 100 meters, and twenty of them are armed,” a mechanical voice announced with no emotion.
The big cat’s beastly eyes narrowed into vertical slits. With a light leap, its furry body positioned itself between the door and Ning Yunyi, preventing any potential spiritual attacks from the intruders.
Although its spiritual power was suppressed, the big cat’s natural instincts were more attuned to danger than most.
As soon as these people approached, the big cat was on high alert, which explained its earlier rash actions.
Among the two people and one cat, Ning Yunyi was the calmest. Upon hearing that twenty-one armed individuals were approaching, it was clear they weren’t random passersby but had come specifically for him.
He could already guess who was behind this.
It could only be Mr. Xu.
The very same Mr. Xu who, when Ning Yunyi first arrived, had conspired with the landlord to force him into becoming his lover.
When Ning Yunyi had abruptly terminated his lease and left, he had expected Mr. Xu to come after him sooner. The fact that it took this long was somewhat surprising.
But now that Mr. Xu had shown up, it saved Ning Yunyi the trouble of going to find him.
Back then, Ning Yunyi had limited spiritual power, a weak body, and had to look after Xiaomiao, making it inconvenient to act. Now, however, things were different.
It was a good opportunity to question Mr. Xu about the so-called “friend” who had indirectly caused his predecessor’s death, as well as the true mastermind behind it all.
Ning Yunyi stood up and walked to the big cat’s side, comforting it by pinching its large ear. “Nothing to worry about, relax.”
The big cat looked over, guessing from Ning Yunyi’s expression that he knew the people outside.
They were enemies, not friends, but not particularly strong ones.
However, the big cat could clearly sense the malicious intent in the air. The people outside were far from weak.
It gently tugged at Ning Yunyi’s sleeve with its paw, signaling a reminder.
Ning Yunyi understood. “You protect Xiaomiao. These people are no match for me.”
The big cat didn’t sense any overwhelming strength from Ning Yunyi, but the food he made could suppress its spiritual outbursts, indicating he had other abilities.
Reluctantly, the big cat loosened its grip and obediently walked over to where Ning Xiaomiao was, lying down protectively in front of him. Still, its fur remained slightly puffed up, ready to strike at any moment.
If Ning Yunyi couldn’t handle the situation, the big cat would immediately spring into action.
When Mr. Xu arrived with his twenty bodyguards, the first thing he noticed was the villa.
He had a puzzled look. “Are you sure this is the place? How could he afford to rent such a villa? Where did he get the money?”
One of the bodyguards scratched his head. “We didn’t expect it either. We only searched the slums in the abandoned spaceship district and found nothing. Expanding the search, we found out he rented this place just recently.”
The bodyguard was equally confused. How could someone who could barely afford to rent a dilapidated spaceship suddenly have enough star coins to live in a villa?
Mr. Xu’s face twisted, and his fat jowls quivered as if he had remembered something unpleasant. “Hmph, he didn’t want to become my lover before, but it seems he found someone else to rely on now, huh?”
But his new backer didn’t seem that impressive. Sure, it was a villa, but it was in a remote area and not very extravagant.
Mr. Xu didn’t care about any of that. Recalling what had been promised to him, his eyes gleamed. “Break down the door!”
Today, he was determined to ruin this man. Last time, Ning Yunyi had embarrassed him, but this time things were different.
Just to be safe, Mr. Xu had brought ten C-level bodyguards, six B-level ones, and four A-level ones.
With this lineup, even an S-level expert would have a hard time escaping.
Last time, Mr. Xu had hesitated because he thought the information he received was faulty, so he had retreated. But after confirming that Ning Yunyi was just a useless young master with no spiritual power, he realized that Ning Yunyi must have surprised him with a few tricks last time.
However, before Mr. Xu’s men could break down the door, it swung open from the inside.
The bodyguards, standing there with fierce expressions, suddenly found no one behind the door: “??”
Mr. Xu was also stunned. No one? Then who opened the door?
But before he could think too much about it, he raised his eyes and saw, across the large courtyard, a man sitting in a chair on the steps of the front hall, smiling at them. “Since you’re here, why not come in?”
Mr. Xu’s expression stiffened. Instinctively, he felt there was a trap.
The bodyguards, too, were startled by the man’s fearless demeanor. With so many people here to cause trouble, shouldn’t he be scared and begging for mercy? Yet, the man looked as though he had been expecting them all along and wasn’t the least bit concerned.
“Mr. Xu, this…”
Mr. Xu, remembering the words of the man who had given him the information, steadied himself and sneered, “It’s just a bluff. What are you afraid of? He’s just pretending to be calm. If we capture him today, I’ll double your pay.”
You have to risk something to gain something, and besides, that man had promised to reimburse him.
With Mr. Xu’s words, any hesitation the group had was dispelled, and they all marched into the villa.
Once the last man stepped inside, the door slammed shut with a loud *bang*.
Everyone jumped and turned around, a bad feeling creeping into their hearts.
Ning Yunyi still sat there, seemingly in a good mood. He glanced at Mr. Xu, who seemed completely unaware of the predicament he was in, and then looked around the room. He clapped his hands. “Not bad this time, Mr. Xu. You’ve even managed to hire A-level bodyguards.”
A-level spiritual users weren’t rare, but they were expensive to hire. Four of them, plus the others with decent spiritual power, must have cost a lot.
Mr. Xu let out a smug grunt. “Since you know that, you’d better surrender quietly and avoid some unnecessary pain.”
“Pain, huh? Well, I have a peculiar quirk—I actually enjoy a little suffering,” Ning Yunyi said lazily, still sitting there. He had just eaten and was ready to use these people to help him digest.
The big cat wasn’t entirely reassured, and Ning Xiaomiao was worried about his father. At some point, the two of them had moved closer.
Ning Xiaomiao’s spiritual barrier still enveloped him, moving with him as he approached.
The big cat blocked Ning Xiaomiao from getting too close to the action but allowed him to see what was happening outside.
Mr. Xu burst into laughter. “So you’re choosing the hard way.”
He waved his hand, and ten C-level bodyguards stepped forward.
Ning Yunyi remained seated, watching the ten men slowly approach. Not wanting to risk damaging the tiles in the front hall during the fight, he finally stood up and slowly descended the steps.
Instead of retreating, he advanced. The ten men quickly surrounded him.
Mr. Xu, standing not far away, squinted at Ning Yunyi, who was bathed in sunlight, and was even more stunning than the last time they met.
He licked his lips and suddenly said, “Don’t damage his face.”
The men understood what he meant. They exchanged glances and burst into laughter—only for the laughter to abruptly stop.
The ten men surrounding Ning Yunyi, who had been laughing the loudest, suddenly found their necks constricted by something invisible. They couldn’t breathe, and their bones began to creak under pressure.
Unable to move, they immediately released their spiritual power, intending to attack Ning Yunyi.
But as their spiritual power extended outward, it was met by an invisible barrier. Not only did it fail to cause any damage, but as it approached the barrier, it was caught and torn apart.
All ten men’s faces changed drastically. Because they were facing away from Mr. Xu, their expressions of fear weren’t immediately noticed.
