Chapter 2
“Ahem… Ahem…”
“Phew… Phew… Phew…”
“Gurgle… Gurgle… Gurgle…”
He Yuan sprang up from the ground and fell back down, constantly choking on water. Finally, he suddenly coughed, and painfully opened his eyes.
Wen Su stood up.
He Yuan sat up, looking from the tip of Wen Su’s black military boots, up his thighs, waist, chest, neck, and face…
Alpha still hovered above, exuding a chilling aura.
Although he had just been suffocating, miraculously, he had not lost consciousness. He knew what had happened and felt very embarrassed.
“Thank you, General, for saving me.” He pushed himself up to stand, soaked from head to toe, his hair in disarray. He lowered his head, looking guilty and apologetic, “I’m sorry for the trouble I’ve caused you.”
Wen Su was taken aback.
Based on his extremely limited understanding of Omegas, he had expected them to be weak, precious, and arrogant. Even if it was for the life-saving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, they would have interpreted it as a malicious invasion.
They would either launch a fierce attack and denouncement, or brutally demand responsibility. He had already prepared to deal with it, but he didn’t expect this…
No, wait.
Could it be that this Omega had sophisticated tactics, planning to play hard to get and lure in a big fish?
His gaze turned icy as he crossed his arms and interrogated, “What are you doing here?”
He Yuan softly answered, “Running.”
“Running?”
“Yes, I run in the mornings and evenings every day.”
“Why?”
“To exercise and get stronger!” He Yuan looked up, clenching his fists, and the light of hope shone in his drooping eyes.
But Wen Su directly commented, “Yet you are still weak?”
He Yuan: …
“I was running around the lake, but suddenly a mechanical arm reached out from the lake and grabbed me, throwing me into the water!”
“That was Vermillion bird.”
“Vermillion bird? The General’s mecha bird?”
“Yes.”
“So it was it, no wonder it was so powerful!”
“It was resting at the bottom of the lake. When you approached, it mistook you for an intruder.”
“Oh, I’ll have to stay farther away from the lake from now on.”
He Yuan’s fist clenched in his palm, his expression and tone very serious, causing Wen Su to unconsciously raise the portable control device on his wrist.
A flash of silver, and He Yuan instantly raised his arm.
“Don’t move,” Wen Su commanded.
He Yuan obediently kept his body tense.
After the scan, Wen Su adjusted his sleeve and said, “Your information has been synchronized with Vermillion bird, it won’t attack you again.”
“Wow, thank you, General!”
Wen Su remained impassive, turned, and walked a few steps, then turned back and approached He Yuan, reaching up to pluck a wet strand of algae from his head.
He Yuan: …
He hugged his head, watching Wen Su’s retreating back, a smile curling his lips: “What a stroke of luck, the General’s words may sound unpleasant, but he’s not impossible to get along with after all!”
However, in his study, Wen Su:
Looked at his open palm, then at the mecha control device on his wrist, feeling very perplexed.
What had he just done?
Wasn’t he supposed to drive that Omega away?
The next morning at 7:30 am, He Yuan was standing by the dining table on time.
On the table, like yesterday, there were both military-provided meals and his homemade dishes, but this time the homemade dish was not a full set, just a single dish of Taiko Manju.
He was also smiling brightly and waving like a mechanical cat.
“Good morning, General! I’ve reflected and realized that life needs to progress slowly. Abruptly changing your eating habits was not appropriate. So today I’ve only made a side dish. If you have an appetite after breakfast, please feel free to try it. If not, no problem! But I really hope you’ll taste it! Because Taiko Manju is my specialty, my favorite dessert. Especially when I can hold it in both hands and eat it, I feel so happy!”
While speaking, he considerately pulled out the chair.
Accustomed to pulling the chair himself, Wen Su’s hand stopped midair, and his gaze shifted to the side, suddenly receiving a huge, frozen smile.
Wen Su: …
Very unfamiliar.
He ate the official meal as usual, his expression somewhat listless, occasionally pressing a finger to his brow.
He Yuan immediately asked, “General, did you not sleep well last night?”
Wen Su thought to himself, “Exactly, I slept very poorly, all because of you.”
He looked at He Yuan with a gaze filled with purposeful intent.
Fluffy short hair, messy but not disorderly bangs, chestnut-colored, unsure if it was natural or dyed.
Eyes very large, a shade lighter than the hair, the color lustrous, unsure if it was natural or wearing contacts.
A small mole under the right eye, faint reddish, unsure if it was real or drawn on.
Wearing a brown vintage-style suit, a white shirt underneath with a neck scarf, shorts, and round-toed leather shoes.
… The same outfit he wore by the lake last night, since he was “running,” the outer jacket had been removed.
Wen Su pressed his brow even more listlessly.
He had never been particular about human appearances, especially for an Omega who had barged into his territory uninvited, attempting to seduce him.
But for some reason, last night, as soon as he lay down, his brain automatically flashed back to the image of the wet Omega standing pitifully by the lake. Hazy and vague, like there was a veil, only the outline visible, no details.
His mild obsessive-compulsive disorder made him desperately want to peel away that veil and see every detail clearly.
He had been tormented by this thought all night.
Now, at this close distance and high definition, he finally saw through it all, felt relieved, but also deeply regretted.
Drive him away – Wen Su reaffirmed his decision.
But then the Taiko Manju was suddenly pushed in front of him.
Unknowingly, he had already finished the other food.
“General, I feel you still have an appetite,” He Yuan tilted his head and smiled, “While it’s still hot, the texture and flavor are just right! I got up early this morning specifically to make this for you. If you could grace it with a taste, I would be so happy!”
After last night, he understood that Wen Su was someone who yielded to softness, not harshness. Calling him weak did not work, but going against the grain and showing a bit of weakness immediately made the General lose his temper.
You have to stroke the tiger’s fur the right way!
Sure enough, Wen Su’s expression showed hesitation upon hearing these words –
The Omega was wearing the same clothes as last night after falling into the water, meaning he had washed and dried them, then showered and tidied up, and got up early this morning. His sleep time must have been pitifully short.
Although deep in schemes, the facts were facts, and they deserved… compassion.
Moreover, the golden, steaming buns exuded an irresistible allure.
He also hadn’t slept well last night and really needed some extra comfort.
So, finally, he primly picked up the Taiko Manju.
Oh well.
Sweet food is sweet food.
Wen Su took a bite.
Then another.
… Slightly stunned.
Then he took a big bite.
Damn it.
Isn’t sweet food supposed to be an Omega thing? He’s an Alpha, and a top-tier one at that, so why does he also like sweet food?
Was there some kind of trick in this?
Glancing up at the chef, the greatly progressing He Yuan was beaming, holding up a “yay” sign with his index and middle fingers.
Wen Su: !
The filling wasn’t evenly mixed? How did the sweetness suddenly double?!
…
And so, he absentmindedly finished the Taiko Manju, absentmindedly bid farewell to He Yuan’s enthusiastic waving, and returned to his study, once again forgetting his plan to drive the Omega away.
