Chapter 37: Can You Endure It?
The two of them had been “deeply communicating” for three, if not five, days now.
He had, more or less, come to understand Li Xuanyue as a person. He knew deep down that she wasn’t the irritable, temperamental woman the rumors described. As a result, his prejudice against her had gradually faded.
Li Xuanyue gave him a push. “Don’t get so close to me.”
Her voice was laced with impatience.
Ever since his heat had started, this man had been relentless with her. She was resilient, but his boundless energy, day in and day out, truly terrified her.
She was afraid that by the time his thirty-day heat was over, he might be satisfied… but she would be completely broken.
A flash of dissatisfaction crossed Jun He’s eyes at her resistance. But, being a man who had always excelled at forbearance, he ultimately retracted the hand he was reaching out to her.
Yinxin, standing to the side, did her absolute best to look as if she hadn’t seen or heard a thing.
In her eyes, their princess was simply magnificent. Even in bed, she was so commanding and assertive. It was truly admirable.
“Yinxin, in a moment, I want you to find two of our people. Have them spread the word about Princess Qinghe and the Second Prince.”
Li Qinghe always loved stabbing her in the back, didn’t she? This time, she would let her taste what it felt like to be stabbed in return.
“Yes!”
Yinxin’s eyes darted, and she instantly understood the purpose behind Li Xuanyue’s arrangement.
Li Qinghe suddenly proposing to the Second Prince of the Snake Clan was indeed surprising. But to outsiders, a rebellious man like the Second Prince would never willingly subordinate himself to a woman. What Li Xuanyue intended to do was to let everyone know that Li Qinghe had tricked Jun Mo.
As for the consequences of these rumors… that wasn’t her problem to consider. It would be Li Qinghe’s headache.
“Aren’t you afraid she’ll retaliate against you for this?”
Jun He found himself unable to understand the woman before him more and more. He had only met her once on their wedding night in his past life. Other than that, he knew nothing about her. Yet, this woman before him now handled things with such ease, a perfect balance of action and restraint.
It was… rather fascinating.
“Then let her try,” Li Xuanyue said dismissively. She was more afraid that her “dear sister” wouldn’t come after her.
“Princess, Divine Doctor Liu is here.”
Just as they were speaking, Xiao Han walked in from outside the hall, wearing his sword.
Li Xuanyue lowered her gaze. “Let him in.”
The past few days of… frenzy… had certainly taken a toll on her. It was no wonder Divine Doctor Liu was worried enough to come.
A moment later, Divine Doctor Liu entered, carrying his medicine chest on his back.
“Divine Doctor Liu, there’s no need for formalities.” Li Xuanyue spoke up before he could even raise his hands to bow. “Let’s get straight to the point.”
Seeing this, Divine Doctor Liu didn’t object. He quickly set down his medicine chest, stepped forward, and placed a cloth on her wrist to take her pulse.
As he took her pulse, he kept glancing over in Jun He’s direction.
Li Xuanyue wasn’t the only one who noticed; Jun He sensed it as well.
So, as soon as Divine Doctor Liu withdrew his hand, Jun He spoke.
“Divine Doctor Liu, you kept looking at me while taking the princess’s pulse. Is there something you wish to say to me?”
Divine Doctor Liu bowed respectfully to Jun He. “Your Highness, have your twelve meridian gates been sealed by someone?”
Jun He frowned. “How did you know that, Divine Doctor?”
Besides the people of the Snake Clan and Jun Mo, no one else knew his gates had been sealed. He had never spoken of it to anyone.
Could it be that the woman beside him had told the good doctor?
Li Xuanyue naturally caught the look the man shot her and understood immediately.
“Don’t look at me,” she said, exasperated. “I’m not the one who told him your meridian gates were sealed. In fact, I didn’t even know.”
It was only when Divine Doctor Liu mentioned it just now that she recalled that night in the peach grove, how Jun He had been completely unable to fight back. Was the reason he couldn’t fight back because his powers had been sealed?
The more Li Xuanyue thought about it, the more alarmed she became. If she hadn’t intervened in time, would Jun Mo have beaten him to death right then and there?
“Your Highness, having your twelve gates sealed is one thing, but those twelve golden needles are still wandering inside your body,” Divine Doctor Liu said lightly. “If you wish to preserve your life, Your Highness, it would be best to get angry less often… and engage in less… strenuous activities. Otherwise, if one of those needles reaches your heart, I’m afraid there will be nothing anyone can do.”
Divine Doctor Liu was only offering this warning out of consideration for Li Xuanyue. Normally, he wouldn’t care a bit whether someone else lived or died.
When Li Xuanyue heard this, her heart leaped into her throat.
“Divine Doctor Liu, is there a way to cure him? Can you unseal his twelve gates and remove those needles?”
Divine Doctor Liu stroked his white beard and pondered for a few seconds. “There is… but it will be extremely painful.”
Li Xuanyue looked at Jun He. “Can you endure it?”
Looking at his pretty-boy face, Li Xuanyue genuinely worried he might pass out halfway through the procedure.
Jun He looked into her worried eyes and asked with amusement, “What do you think?”
He had endured things that no ordinary person could. How could he not persist through the removal of twelve mere needles?
“I can,” Jun He said, his words directed at Divine Doctor Liu. “When do you intend to begin, Divine Doctor?”
Before coming to the Phoenix Clan, he had sought out countless famous physicians. But every single one of them was helpless against the needles in his body. He thought he would be like this for the rest of his life. He had never imagined there would be such a turning point.
It would be a lie to say Jun He wasn’t excited and overjoyed. He just maintained a calm facade.
“Not now.” Divine Doctor Liu mused, “His Highness must rest and build up his strength. We can only begin when his body is no longer in its… current state of depletion.”
Divine Doctor Liu might as well have pointed at Jun He’s nose and told him he was too “drained.”
“Ahem!”
Jun He, rather embarrassed, lowered his head and cleared his throat.
Li Xuanyue felt the awkwardness too. “Very well, then. For the time being, Consort Jun will stay in Junhe Hall and focus on recuperating. Once your body has recovered, we’ll have Divine Doctor Liu remove the needles.”
This also meant she could finally get some rest.
And so, free from Jun He’s… entanglements, Li Xuanyue was instantly brimming with energy.
She appeared before the other four clans for the next two days, looking absolutely radiant. Anyone who didn’t know better would have thought she’d found a pot of gold. The smile on her face didn’t falter for a second from the moment she stepped into the hall.
It even made Shufen, who was sitting nearby, turn to look at her.
“Princess Xuanyue seems to be in a very good mood today,” Shufen said with a wide smile. “Did something wonderful happen?”
