Chapter 60: Public at the Command Center / “He is my spouse, Shen Zhuo.”
“Quite the player, aren’t you?”
The Omega sized up Shen Zhuo from head to toe, clicking his tongue:
“You told me you had a wife at home, and now you’re with a minor. You’ve been quite busy these two months while I was away…”
Before he could finish, his hair was already tied up, and his beautiful, expressive eyes rested on Shen Zhuo.
“Let me remind you, this guy already has a family.”
The Omega smiled, though even more aggressive than an Alpha:
“Being a third party is not good.”
Du Xun’s gaze sharpened, and his tone was a warning: “Chu Baixian.”
The Omega raised an eyebrow: “What, are you finally going to fire me?”
Du Xun enunciated each word clearly: “He is my spouse, Shen Zhuo.”
Chu Baixian: “…?”
Such a little guy.
Your wife?
Chu Baixian: “I don’t believe it.”
Shen Zhuo nodded politely: “Hello, I am Shen Zhuo, Du Xun’s… wife.”
Du Xun glanced sideways, his voice cold: “Do you need to see the marriage certificate?”
Chu Baixian looked down at the ring on the boy’s finger: “…”
What??
Well, damn…
It really is true.
The Omega blinked a few times, then immediately pushed Du Xun aside and hugged the boy’s arm:
“You look way too young. I was being rash, sorry, sorry.”
“Are you hungry? Want me to take you to the Omega cafeteria for something to eat? There are little cakes, too.”
As if remembering something, the Omega added:
“Oh right, I’m Chu Baixian. ‘Xian’ as in amaranth, head of the logistics and maintenance department, and also deputy commander.”
He then leaned in and whispered into Shen Zhuo’s ear:
“Has he ever mistreated you?”
It seemed that people in the Command Center all thought Du Xun was some kind of sadistic control freak.
The Omega’s enthusiasm left Shen Zhuo a bit overwhelmed at first. But hearing the question, he couldn’t help but chuckle:
“No, he treats me very well.”
Chu Baixian immediately made a face of disbelief, looking skeptically at Du Xun.
Then, cautiously, he pulled the boy slightly behind him.
“Chu Baixian,” Du Xun frowned, “don’t scare him.”
Chu Baixian immediately replied: “Aren’t you here at the Command Center to work?”
“Go on, get busy.” He waved his hand like a leader, “Your spouse is mine now.”
“What do you mean, ‘yours’?” Du Xun also extended his hand, wrapping his arm around Shen Zhuo’s waist and drawing the boy back into his embrace.
The man emphasized: “He is my spouse.”
Chu Baixian winked at Shen Zhuo:
“See? He’s so fierce with the rest of us.”
Shen Zhuo glanced at Du Xun.
The man happened to look back at him.
“As long as I’m not fierce with my spouse, it’s fine.”
Shen Zhuo’s gaze froze for a moment, and then the tips of his ears started to burn again.
“Click, click, click.”
Chu Baixian actually clicked his tongue audibly this time. “Alright, I’ll go get busy. I wish you two happiness.”
The Omega hadn’t gone far before he circled back again:
“Oh, by the way,” he looked at Shen Zhuo, “if you ever have any issues with mechs, feel free to come find me. And if he ever bullies you, I can make sure the cafeteria doesn’t serve him any food.”
Shen Zhuo smiled at him: “Got it.”
“Aww, you’re so adorable! Your husband is really lucky.”
Chu Baixian reached out and ruffled Shen Zhuo’s face before scurrying off before Du Xun could flip out.
Only then did Du Xun lead Shen Zhuo toward the office.
“Chu Baixian used to be an Alpha. He and I were in the same special task force.”
“In the last battle, he was seriously injured protecting the team.”
As they walked, Du Xun explained softly:
“All the doctors said he would be a vegetable for the rest of his life.
“But he got up again, though after that, he differentiated into an Omega.”
Shen Zhuo felt a mix of emotions in his heart.
War was brutal.
Just as they reached the corridor, Du Xun suddenly paused, pulling Shen Zhuo to a stop.
The boy looked up: ?
Du Xun gazed into his eyes seriously:
“Chu Baixian and I are just friends, nothing more. There was nothing before, and there won’t be anything in the future.”
“I only have a relationship with you.”
Shen Zhuo raised an eyebrow.
Saying all this so nervously…
Was Du Xun worried he’d get jealous?
Shen Zhuo found it amusing and squeezed the man’s palm.
“I know.”
“I won’t overthink it. I trust you.”
Shen Zhuo had previously considered that, with someone as outstanding as Du Xun, there might be Omegas like Feng Muyan clinging to him even here at the Command Center.
But now, it seemed that wasn’t the case at all.
After all, everyone here thought Du Xun was like the god of death.
Du Xun’s expression finally relaxed a bit. He bent down and kissed the boy’s forehead. “Thank you, my spouse.”
The second time Shen Zhuo entered Du Xun’s office, he finally noticed how minimal the decor was.
Aside from the eternal flame on the coffee table, the entire office had no colors other than black, white, and gray.
It was monotonous, severe, and almost lifeless in its orderliness.
“There’s a resting room next door. Are you tired?”
Du Xun opened a small door on the opposite wall of the desk.
Inside was a clean single bed.
Other than that, there was nothing else.
“You can take a nap. I have some documents to go through. It might take a little time.”
Shen Zhuo glanced into the room.
There was only a faint scent of rosemary.
It seemed that when Du Xun stayed at the Command Center, he always slept here.
Shen Zhuo shook his head: “I want to keep you company.”
“Is there anything I can help with?”
Du Xun opened a drawer on the side of the desk and took out a square box.
Shen Zhuo opened it to find a fully metallic rifle model kit.
Du Xun then handed him a set of tools and a pair of gloves:
“Does this work?”
Shen Zhuo looked at the model’s parts, then at Du Xun, and couldn’t help but smile:
“Did you prepare this just for me?”
“Yes,” Du Xun’s voice was warm, “I didn’t want you to be bored while keeping me company.”
Shen Zhuo put on the gloves and placed everything on the coffee table. He leaned over to kiss Du Xun’s cheek:
“I love it.”
Today, the temperature in the Commander’s office seemed a little higher.
People passing by couldn’t help but stop curiously.
Through the blinds, they could see a boy sitting on the sofa, carefully assembling a model.
On the other side, Commander Du, usually stern and cold, had a peaceful look on his face, even showing a bit of affection.
A large part of the Command Center still didn’t know about the two’s relationship.
At this moment, they were more shocked than if they had been struck by lightning.
Some were so startled they dropped their documents.
As they knelt to pick them up, they pinched themselves hard.
What the heck…
Am I dreaming?
Did I accidentally eat poisonous mushrooms for lunch?!
Am I hallucinating?!
Better report the cafeteria!
“What are you doing?”
Ji Weishen happened to walk by and saw someone crouched on the ground, trembling while tapping on their phone. He walked over to help pick up the fallen documents.
“Lieutenant, the cafeteria served poisonous mushrooms for lunch. I’m having hallucinations.”
The person pointed towards the office.
Ji Weishen looked over, then turned back with a completely nonchalant expression.
“That’s the Commander’s spouse.”
“?!”
The person’s hand shook uncontrollably. Braving great fear, they forced themselves to glance into the office again.
?!
The boss… smiling?!
Help, I’ve seen a living grim reaper…
Ji Weishen returned the documents with a knowing, almost paternal tone.
“You’ll get used to it.”
—
Du Xun had never been in such a good mood while working.
Just by lifting his eyes, he could see the person he wanted to see.
Watching the boy so focused, his heart felt full of warmth.
His work efficiency had also increased significantly.
Three hours later, Shen Zhuo had finished assembling the rifle and placed it in the display case Du Xun had prepared.
Life-size, it was impossible to miss wherever it was placed.
By this time, Du Xun had also nearly finished reviewing the documents.
He saw Shen Zhuo standing on a stool, placing the model on the top shelf of the bookcase.
“Be careful.” Du Xun immediately walked over, standing by the boy’s side in case he lost his balance. “I’ll take care of it.”
Shen Zhuo dusted off his hands and stepped down, holding onto Du Xun’s outstretched hand: “Are you done?”
“Yes.” Du Xun led him to sit on the sofa. “Where do you want to have lunch?”
Shen Zhuo: “Will we go home and you’ll cook?”
“Of course. Whatever my spouse wants to eat, I can have An prepare the ingredients…”
Before he could finish, there was a knock at the door from Ji Weishen.
“Boss, Sister-in-law!”
Du Xun got up to open the door, his brows furrowing tightly.
“What is it?”
Ji Weishen looked delighted, completely oblivious to the cold aura radiating from his boss.
“The guys have organized a little welcome party. How about having lunch together? Bring your spouse along?”
“You organized it?” Du Xun asked coolly.
His tone didn’t sound like a question.
Ji Weishen: “…”
Did I not hide it well enough?
Ji Weishen blinked rapidly:
“Boss, since you brought him here, why not introduce him to everyone?”
Du Xun left the door slightly ajar and looked towards Shen Zhuo, who was sitting on the sofa.
“Do you want to go?”
Shen Zhuo saw a hint of expectation in the man’s eyes.
He stood up and smoothed out the wrinkles on his clothes.
“Sure, it’s about time we make it official.”
The boy smiled, “Let’s go.”
Ji Weishen must have planned the welcome party well in advance.
The Command Center had cleared a meeting room and decorated it with balloons and flowers.
There were too many people at the Command Center for everyone to attend, so only department heads and key members were invited.
About twenty to thirty people in total.
Almost everyone in command had been trained by Du Xun. They gathered in groups, gossiping loudly.
“That’s gotta be a rumor, right?”
“Come on, why would someone like Sister-in-law fall for a workaholic? He probably sucks at being romantic!”
“How does our boss have an Omega, but I still don’t have one?!”
Ji Weishen cleared his throat.
The meeting room fell silent instantly, and all heads turned towards the door.
Their jaws practically dropped.
Most of them had never seen Shen Zhuo before. They only knew that Du Xun was supposedly seeing someone, but they didn’t know who it was.
Everyone, however, knew that in Ares Academy’s entrance exam, there had been an unprecedented S5 Omega.
The young master of a general’s family.
So when Shen Zhuo appeared before them, the entire crowd fell quiet.
Someone whistled, the sound echoing loudly.
Shen Zhuo turned to look, and saw Chu Baixian standing with his fingers circled around his mouth, egging them on.
Du Xun scanned the room.
Everyone held their breath.
Except for Chu Baixian, who was grinning like a fan, the rest quickly looked down at the floor.
Did… did we get caught?
Du Xun and Shen Zhuo exchanged a glance, and he squeezed the boy’s hand.
“Let me introduce—”
The eternal coldness and seriousness of the Commander was softened by warmth. His gaze toward the boy was filled with affection:
“This is my spouse, Shen Zhuo.”
