Chapter 28: Initiating Connection part 1
Both the big and small cats were completely oblivious, staring blankly at the projection ahead.
At first, the screen was pitch black, but it soon lit up, revealing a snow-white ball of fluff, its fur color starkly different from theirs.
Ning Xiao Miao was pure black, and the big cat was now grayish-white.
The one before their eyes, however, was a pure, unblemished white.
They watched in disbelief, over and over again, as the palm-sized, three-cleft-mouthed little rabbit inside opened its mouth and devoured carrot flowers one by one.
Its two rabbit teeth were exceptionally shiny. Finally, as it squinted its eyes and chewed on a carrot flower with evident enjoyment, its two small paws clutching it tightly as if holding a treasure, eating with absolute relish.
The two cats were dazed: Could it be that we didn’t know the fragrance of carrots and pushed away something good?
Ning Yunyi waited until the loop had played enough times before turning it off with satisfaction. “Were you wrong?”
The two cats exchanged a glance and nodded honestly: Wrong, completely wrong. Are carrots really this fragrant?
Ning Yunyi solemnly pointed at the broccoli stir-fried with carrots. “Eat it?”
Little Meow Cub actively patted his small chest. “Eat, Father. I want to eat it every day.” He decided that from now on, his favorite food would be carrots.
The big cat glanced at the easily fooled little cub, and finally, under Ning Yunyi’s faint smile, lowered its big head: What can I do? Even if I have to… I guess I love it too.
Ning Yunyi resolved the matter and was content. Children were indeed easy to coax.
Compared to the harmony on Ning Yunyi’s side, the Ancient Research Institute on the First Star was strangely quiet.
There was no helping it; these past few days, Director Gu had shut himself in the research lab, determined to cultivate another tomato seedling.
The other disciples dared not disturb him. Besides that, they were secretly watching livestreams and snatching up flavors. If they were lucky enough to snatch one, they would collectively hide in a tiny secret room, intending to smell it for a little longer.
The door to the research lab on the top floor of the institute, which had been tightly shut for several days, suddenly opened. Director Gu rubbed his hands with excitement on his face: Success! He successfully grew two more plants!
While walking out quickly, he glanced at the time and stopped regretfully.
Unfortunately, today’s livestream had ended, not to mention snatching flavors.
Just as Director Gu was about to use his wristband to contact his students, someone contacted him first.
He glanced at it and found it was Old Master Tang.
Old Master Tang had previously been recommended the livestream delicacies by Director Gu. Because he didn’t snatch any, he happened to encounter Nick using fake, inferior perfume to cobble together a gourmet flavor for sale. As a result, Old Master Tang retched upon smelling it.
That wasn’t all; it was soon exposed that the scent Nick used was actually insecticide. Although Old Master Tang didn’t feel any physical problems, he was still sent to the interstellar sanatorium for observation for a few days before being discharged.
As a result, as soon as he was discharged, the butler mysteriously saved all the gourmet flavors snatched over the past few days for Old Master Tang.
He was lucky and had saved up 3 portions.
One of them was Cumin Lamb.
Old Master Tang originally didn’t believe in the so-called truly delicious ancient Blue Star cuisine. He opened it inadvertently, and the smell was astonishing.
Especially that Cumin Lamb, it simply struck right at his heart.
However, the streamer didn’t make Cumin Lamb again for the next two days. Old Master Tang couldn’t snatch any, so he could only scratch his heart and lungs and send people to research it.
Moo-moo beast meat was available, but what was missing was the key seasoning, cumin seeds.
Naturally, they weren’t available on the market, and couldn’t be bought even with money. It was said to be a rare species from the ancient Blue Star.
The butler could only regretfully inform him and show Old Master Tang the picture of the cumin sapling from the ancient Blue Star ancient books.
Old Master Tang stared at the picture, finding it somewhat familiar.
After looking through it for a long time, he finally found that Director Gu, that little old man, had grown one plant last year and had specifically shown it off to him.
After Director Gu succeeded back then, he chewed the cumin seeds raw and felt the taste was strange. Plus, the yield was small, so it wasn’t as practical as researching potatoes and tomatoes. So he sealed up the handful he grew at that time.
Old Master Tang just watched the fun back then, but…
He gasped and immediately contacted Director Gu.
It was also his good luck that Director Gu had just come out of the research lab. Hearing Old Master Tang’s rare, exceptionally gentle and ingratiating voice, he was puzzled. “You said… you want to exchange a box of ancient Blue Star soil for that handful of cumin seeds in my hand?”
Old Master Tang’s voice became even more polite. “Yes, as soon as I got this soil, the first person I thought of was you, my old friend. With this soil, maybe every tomato seedling you plant will survive. Imagine that scene, how envious and shocking it would be.”
Director Gu felt this old guy was up to something, but he still couldn’t resist the temptation. That was ancient Blue Star soil, extremely rare.
Director Gu gritted his teeth. “Fine, I’ll have the delivery robot send it to you immediately. You send the soil over too.”
Old Master Tang smiled brilliantly. “Alright! It has to be you, Brother Gu!”
Director Gu frowned, feeling this old guy wasn’t right, but thinking about that small handful with a strange taste and unknown use, it wasn’t a loss.
Wait until Director Gu packed and sealed it with the delivery robot and set the address; it would arrive in an hour.
After the little robot went far, Director Gu left a message for Old Master Tang. Just as he was about to turn around with his hands behind his back, he saw Luke and jumped in fright. “What are you doing blocking the way here?”
Luke rubbed his hands and chuckled. “Master, you finally came out. Looks like you succeeded?”
Director Gu snorted with a laugh. “Of course.”
He thought his disciple would excitedly ask for details. Who knew Luke would change the subject, smiling even more fawningly. “Master.”
Director Gu shivered. “Your smile is scary. Just say what you have to say.”
Luke steeled his heart and coughed lightly. “It’s like this. Master, didn’t you grow a handful of cumin seeds last year?”
Director Gu was suspicious. “Strange, why are you all suddenly asking about cumin seeds?”
Luke had a bad premonition, his voice trembling. “M-Master, who else asked? Don’t tell me you already gave them away?”
Director Gu finally realized something was wrong. Ten minutes later, after reading the recent hot posts on the Star Network and the livestream replays, he beat his chest, stomped his feet, and roared at the sky. “You old rascal! Just you wait!”
On the other side, Old Master Tang received the news, immediately opened the location, added super speed with Star Coins, and had the robot deliver it urgently in twenty minutes.
Director Gu’s spaceship simply couldn’t catch up.
While waiting for the cumin seeds, Old Master Tang specially cleared a space in the courtyard of the Tang family manor. After research these past two days, he felt that slicing and roasting moo-moo meat could reduce the strange smell a bit. Once it was sizzling, sprinkling a handful of Director Gu’s cumin seeds would probably make it similar to that Cumin Lamb.
Just as Old Master Tang was looking forward to the arrival of the cumin seeds, a servant came to report first. “Master, the eldest grandson of the Zong family, Zong Ling, has come to visit with his fiancé.”
Old Master Tang frowned. Zong Ling? Why come at this time?
But thinking of the rumors that hadn’t spread, presumably he was inquiring about Marshal Zong’s news. Thinking of this, Old Master Tang gave face to Marshal Zong and waved his hand. “Let them come over.”
When Zong Ling brought Mu Jiayi over, he smelled a familiar scent from afar. He subconsciously frowned. He couldn’t help it; this smell was too familiar. When he didn’t want to eat nutrient solution, he would roast various exotic beasts.
At least it was better than other ways of eating, only that even after roasting, he still felt there was an unpleasant smell.
