Chapter 49 part 1
After the livestream ended, Tang Yue walked Jiang Shulu to the car.
The production crew was busy packing up their equipment. The car was parked in front of the local guesthouse where they had been staying. Tang Mian and Yao Xuanyu were still hugging the dog, refusing to let go.
“Goodbye,” Tang Yue said.
The weather had turned cold. He was wearing a green fleece jacket, matching Tang Mian’s again. From a distance, the parent-child vibe was undeniable.
Jiang Shulu smiled and asked, “Is that all you have to say?”
Song Chen, Jiang Shuluâs assistant, was in the driver’s seat.
He tried his best to minimize his presence, but even sitting in the front, it was hard to ignore the strange intensity of the atmosphere.
He had been with Jiang Shulu for several years and was one of the secretaries responsible for handling his more personal affairs. Yet, he never imagined that Jiang Shuluâa man with virtually no private lifeâwould be like this when he fell in love.
No wonder Madam Jiang was so worried, acting like her life depended on it, constantly asking when Jiang Shulu would return.
Iâve told her the boarding time a dozen times already; canât she just look at the schedule?
When Song Chen joined the Jiang Corporation fresh out of university, he never expected to fulfill his childhood dream of living in a spy thriller.
The rumors about wealthy family feuds turned out to be true. For instance, the mother and son didn’t get along, and neither did the husband and wife. It was all a show for the media.
Novels were actually too tame compared to reality.
After years on the job, Song Chen felt he could write an observational memoir titled Revelations of High Society Life upon retirement.
It was common for wealthy scions to play the fieldâgetting teenage girls pregnant, having open marriages, or refusing to marry while partying hard.
His boss, however, was an anomaly among anomalies.
If Song Chen wasn’t already executing Jiang Shulu’s plans, he might have joined the netizens gawking on the trending topics, cheering that an idol drama had come to life.
Outside the window, the former youngest member of the group lowered his head slightly and reached out, cupping Jiang Shulu’s face in his hands.
Song Chen hurriedly lowered his eyes, terrified the two might just start kissing right there.
The speculation in the office that the boss was frigid really didn’t hold water.
Frigid? Being on the scene, he felt like his boss was moments away from kissing Tang Yue into oblivion. The tension… tsk.
Jiang Shulu had his own inner circle. Over the years, these people had gradually replaced Jiang Kaicheng’s men in the company. Under the guise of injecting fresh blood, no one could really object.
Jiang Shulu had his own methods. He let his results speak for themselves every year; his resume was as impeccable as his face.
So, the elders couldn’t criticize this junior on professional grounds privately. They could only circle back to his “major life events.”
Currently, Jiang Shulu’s “major life event” didn’t result in a kiss as he had expected.
Tang Yue, who was much more affectionate than before, simply leaned in. He rubbed his cheek against Jiang Shulu’s, then nuzzled against his neck. Even the passing crew members blushed at the sight; it was practically intimate grinding in broad daylight.
And it was the MAX version.
Too much! Are you bullying us because there are no fan cams today?!
Forget it, these two don’t seem to care about hiding it anyway. They do whatever they want on the livestream.
It wasn’t just the netizens who were shocked; the staff hadn’t expected the variety show to evolve in this direction either.
Script? What script!
There is no script! Could our production team even write a plot like this?
It included tags like wealthy families, urban romance, mpreg (male pregnancy), and broken mirrors reuniting. What variety show would pile on so many genres?
It was entirely the story the guests brought with them!
Jiang Shulu wanted to laugh as Tang Yue nuzzled him. “Is that it?”
“Saving the rest for next time,” Tang Yue replied.
Song Chen couldn’t bear to think about the implications hidden in those words.
“Actually, it wouldn’t matter if you came with me,” Jiang Shulu said.
He was wearing a mid-neck thin fleece sweater. Even with his coat buttoned all the way to the top, it was enough for Tang Yue to imagine the texture under his hand.
He really wanted to…
The desire to be even closer surged up again.
Tang Yue didn’t show it on his face. He shook his head. “You have your arrangements.”
Song Chen glanced at the time and said cautiously, “Boss, we…”
“You should go,” Tang Yue said.
Jiang Shulu sighed dramatically. “So heartless, Xiao Yue.”
Tang Yue made a thoughtful sound. “Then… can I touch you?”
Song Chen: “…”
Help! Can’t you guys save the touching for the night?
“Where do you want to touch?” Jiang Shulu asked.
Tang Yue’s hand was already reaching out. He stroked Jiang Shulu’s hair, as gentle and careful as he was with Tang Mian. Finally, he bent down and kissed Jiang Shulu’s forehead.
“Ge, goodbye.”
Song Chen’s mind was instantly filled with the countless jokes and memes produced by the livestream chat over the past few days.
Things like The Days and Nights of the Maknae and the Captain, One Hundred Concrete Analyses of Being Physically Familiar While Acting Unfamiliar…
There were all sorts of theories, but looking at it now, it seemed incredibly pure. It made one reflect on whether their own thoughts were too dirty.
After the car drove away, Tang Yue stood there for a while. Liu Xichao was leaving too; his assistant brought out his luggage.
He walked up to Tang Yue and asked, “Why didn’t you go with Jiang Shulu?”
Tang Yue still looked very thin. Every time Liu Xichao looked at him, he felt an urge to order him some food.
During their group days, everyone felt the same way.
The nutritionist’s advice was basically useless; Tang Yue was the type who just wouldn’t gain weight. It looked like anyone passing by could easily sling him over their shoulder and carry him off.
“We’ll see each other soon,” Tang Yue said.
He watched the car carrying Jiang Shulu disappear at the end of the coastal highway, then withdrew his gaze and asked Liu Xichao, “Is Third Brother going to the Jiang family banquet with Mr. Jiang?”
Liu Xichao used to think Tang Yue needed looking after. Although Tang Yue still gave off that vibe, something was different now.
“You’re going, so of course, I have to join the fun,” Liu Xichao said. “Teacher ‘Evening’? What kind of name is that? Did you just type it randomly?”
Standing together, Liu Xichao clearly looked older than Tang Yue.
Maybe it was because Tang Yue’s clothes were too childish, or maybe because Liu Xichao was wearing Jiang He’s custom-made long trench coat, which made him look overly mature. Hearing the name, Tang Yue asked in surprise, “How did Third Brother know?”
Liu Xichao ruffled Tang Yue’s hair vigorously. “Why do you still dislike checking your phone so much? All you do is read novels all day.”
There was a hint of teasing and complaint in his voice. “Stop pretending to be surprised, Tang Yue. I didn’t realize your acting skills were so good before.”
“I wasn’t acting,” Tang Yue said.
“Why didn’t you tell Jiang Shulu?”
Before Tang Yue could explain, Liu Xichao laughed again. The expensive trench coat belonging to Jiang He looked completely different on him. The man put his hands in his pockets and said leisurely, “It’s not a bad thing. You should keep a few cards up your sleeve when you’re in a relationship.”
He turned his head, his expression offering some comfort. “But don’t worry. If you and Jiang Shulu fight, I’m definitely on your side.”
“The Captain and I won’t fight,” Tang Yue said.
“You haven’t been together that long, right?”
Tang Yue hummed an assent.
“I’m relieved to see you’re still making music,” Liu Xichao said.
He reached out and hooked his arm around Tang Yue’s shoulder without asking. Tang Yue didn’t struggle, simply saying, “I’m sorry.”
“What do you have to be sorry for? For thinking Jiang Shulu and I were a couple?”
“That’s about it.”
Tang Mian was still playing with the dog and Yao Xuanyu. Jiang He stood on the road on the other side. The two kids chased the dog around, and the dog bumped into his trouser leg.
The man didn’t look easy to talk to; he had a natural gloominess about him. Even the dog seemed to think he wasn’t a good person and tucked its tail, hiding to the side.
Jiang He glanced over, and Liu Xichao waved at him.
“I told you last time, I…” Tang Yue started.
“I forgot to tell you,” Liu Xichao interrupted. “The first time I met Jiang Shulu was at Jiang He’s house. I was fighting with Jiang He at the time.”
“The kind person sponsoring me was always Jiang He. Back then, I just wanted to scam him out of all his money.”
