Chapter 70: Super Satisfying Scum-Bashing! Feng Ming Goes Offline
The man was dressed in a hospital gown, his complexion still an unnatural, sickly pale.
Yet, as his sharp brows lowered slightly, simply standing there, he looked like a judge capable of passing sentence on all things.
Shen Zhuo was stunned for a moment.
The gun in his hand was gently taken away.
Du Xun spoke in a gentle, low voice: “It’s over.”
Shen Zhuo’s pupils trembled, his fingertips curling inward. A flood of long-suppressed grievances and fear swallowed him like a tsunami.
Or perhaps, it was the ecstasy of regaining what was lost.
“Don’t dirty your hands.”
Du Xun took the gun and aimed it at Feng Ming, who was still struggling to stand on the ground.
The muzzle lowered.
The first shot struck Feng Ming’s thigh.
“Ah—!!”
The pistol was equipped with a silencer; the noise it made was completely drowned out by Feng Ming’s scream.
“First, incompetence. Coveting the position of Commander-in-Chief and treating the lives of the Empire’s citizens as a game.”
The man’s gaze from above was filled with contempt and indifference.
He pulled the trigger a second time.
Aimed at Feng Ming’s arm.
Suppressed by the pheromones to the point of immobility, Feng Ming could only remain rooted to the spot, kneeling in a posture of utter humiliation.
Feng Ming’s eyes were bloodshot, blood gushing from his wounds.
Aside from screaming, he couldn’t utter a single word.
“Second, colluding with rebels, conducting illegal transactions, and endangering the Empire’s talents,” the man stated slowly.
The third shot. The muzzle aimed at Feng Ming’s shoulder.
After the trigger was pulled, Feng Ming’s face was covered in cold sweat from the agony. His heart-wrenching screams summoned no one.
The alpha’s tone was like a final notice of death, concealing a violent rage beneath a lack of emotional fluctuation.
“Third, attempting to use illegal means to force a high-level Omega—”
Du Xun’s voice paused briefly.
Then, cold once more: “Threatening… my wife.”
Shen Zhuo stood by Du Xun’s side, his gaze flickering slightly.
Seeing that Feng Ming had completely lost the ability to move, Shen Zhuo retracted his pheromones.
Feng Ming finally found the breath to speak. He roared, his voice sounding worse than a dying old crone.
“What can you possibly gain! Du Xun!! You won’t get the throne! You won’t!! Queen Mingya was a trai—”
The final gunshot rang out.
The muzzle was aimed at Feng Ming’s throat.
“Fourth, disrespecting the former Queen.”
Du Xun lowered the gun. Outside the ward, the military personnel who had been waiting filed in.
The man stood with his hands at his sides, looking like a chilling blade in a snowstorm.
Chu Baixian walked in first, glancing at Feng Ming lying on the floor.
“You killed him?”
Du Xun took Shen Zhuo’s hand and sat back down by the bedside.
“Resuscitation is still possible,” he looked at Chu Baixian, his expression calm and steady. “I didn’t hit his spine.”
“Letting him die like this would be too easy.”
Chu Baixian breathed a sigh of relief and led the terrified, silent group out of the room.
Before leaving, he glanced at Shen Zhuo, then at Du Xun, and left a gloating remark at the door.
“I feel like you’re in trouble. Good luck.”
Eventually, only two people remained in the ward.
Shen Zhuo kept his head lowered, staying silent the whole time.
“Let me see.” Du Xun bent down, cupping the boy’s face with both hands, frowning slightly. “Why have you lost weight?”
“Have you not been eating properly these past few days?”
Shen Zhuo’s throat was so sore he couldn’t even make a sound.
All the emotions of the past few days seemed to have been suppressed well.
In reality, they were just piled up against a floodgate that was about to burst.
The moment he heard Du Xun’s voice, Shen Zhuo’s eyes burned hot.
Tears overflowed and fell. Suppressing the heavy, aching pain in his chest, Shen Zhuo spoke, his voice terribly hoarse:
“Du Xun…”
Shen Zhuo raised his head. Behind the mist of tears, he finally saw those gray-blue eyes that had never changed.
His Du Xun had returned.
“I’m here.” Du Xun kissed his forehead. “I’m here.”
“I’m sorry I made you worry.”
Those few words were like the sharpest blade.
The boy’s psychological defenses, which were supposed to be hard and tough, shattered into pieces in an instant.
Shen Zhuo thought he would be strong.
At least strong enough to smile at Du Xun when he woke up.
But in reality, he clutched Du Xun’s clothes, his whole body trembling uncontrollably.
Even his voice was shaking.
Days of anxiety and fear were released all at once.
Scalding, hot tears fell one by one onto the man’s clothes.
Shen Zhuo couldn’t see clearly, but he knew this was the most composed he had ever been in two lifetimes.
Truly…
So ugly.
How could an S5 Omega cry like this…
The man pulled him into his arms, stroking his back soothingly, over and over again.
“I’m back, baby.”
“Du Xun…”
“I’m here, don’t worry anymore, I’m here.”
“Bastard… Du Xun, you bastard…”
Shen Zhuo kept his head buried deeply, gripping the alpha’s clothes, unable to calm down.
“…I’m sorry, it will never happen again.”
Du Xun pulled him away slightly, his heart aching as he wiped the tears from his face with his thumb:
“Don’t cry, don’t cry.”
It took a long time for Shen Zhuo to slowly settle down. He held Du Xun’s hand tightly but stubbornly turned his head away, refusing to look at him.
Du Xun knew that going to the negotiation would inevitably lead to an incident.
But to lure the Queen into making her next move, he had to do it.
And because of Feng Ming’s actions, he now had the justification and standing to investigate the royal family.
To uproot the rot within the Empire, one had to cut from the deepest part.
The gland trafficking organization, the anti-military religious group they encountered before, and the rebel armies gathering in the shadows everywhere.
They were all connected to a certain person.
To launch a truly comprehensive investigation into the royal family, the plan had to proceed, regardless of who was about to die.
Du Xun had gone prepared to face an accident.
“I won’t risk my life again.” Du Xun tugged at the boy’s hand. “Madam…”
Shen Zhuo didn’t move.
Du Xun: “Baby?”
Shen Zhuo still didn’t look at him, but he tightened his grip on Du Xun’s fingers.
Du Xun’s voice softened a few more degrees. Having just woken from a coma, his voice carried a weak, raspy sexiness:
“Wife.”
Shen Zhuo’s heart skipped a violent beat, feeling as if prickly thorns had landed all over him.
The tips of his ears burned bright red.
After a few seconds, he squeezed his eyes shut tightly.
Finally, he let out a sigh.
He was angry, but he couldn’t stay angry at Du Xun.
What he was angry about was that he couldn’t help even a little bit.
“Why didn’t you include me in the plan?”
Shen Zhuo finally turned to look the man in the eye.
Unsurprisingly, he crashed into a gaze as obscure as an abyss.
“It was too dangerous,” Du Xun said seriously. “This was a military plan; I didn’t want to drag you into it.”
Shen Zhuo didn’t want to hear this bullshit.
Didn’t want to drag him in? Wanted him to be safe?
He didn’t want to hear any of it!
The boy suddenly turned fierce, grabbing Du Xun’s collar. His voice, suppressing his grievance, was somewhat hoarse:
“Then if something happened to you, what was I supposed to do?!”
Du Xun was pushed back against the headboard, yet his hand still protected Shen Zhuo, who was straddling the bed with one leg.
“What was I supposed to do after that…” Shen Zhuo’s voice was incredibly light.
As soon as it left his mouth, it seemed to dissipate into the air.
Shen Zhuo bit his lip. His eyes, brimming with tears, made him look like he was about to shatter.
“Madam…”
Du Xun raised his hand, inserting his fingers into the boy’s hair and slowly smoothing it: “I won’t die.”
Shen Zhuo let go, turning his head away coldly.
The man leaning against the headboard lowered his eyes and inhaled lightly:
“It hurts…”
Shen Zhuo’s face changed instantly: “Where does it hurt?”
“I’ll call the doctor!”
“Is it because there aren’t enough pheromones?”
The sight of the boy flustering to release his pheromones finally made the man chuckle.
Shen Zhuo paused for a moment, realizing the man was faking it, and cursed angrily: “Bastard.”
Bastard!
In the next second, his slender waist was embraced, and the scent of rosemary enveloped him.
Following closely was a warm kiss, filled with heartache and longing.
“I’m sorry I made you wait so long.”
Du Xun rubbed against the boy’s lips, his tone lingering and affectionate:
“I’m back.”
Dense kisses traveled from his lips to his cheeks, kissing away the crystalline tears in his eyes. Du Xun promised:
“This kind of thing won’t happen again.”
.
A kiss, a promise, a hug.
Shen Zhuo felt he was really too easy to coax.
But given that Du Xun was indeed a man of his word, he didn’t pursue it further.
The hospital lunch wasn’t very good, so An brought food over.
Shen Zhuo and Du Xun sat on the hospital bed, eating face-to-face at a small table.
Shen Zhuo put all the meat from his bowl into the alpha’s bowl.
He didn’t forget to sneakily transfer the eggs and green vegetables from his own bowl to Du Xun’s as well.
“Didn’t you say balanced nutrition? Do you listen to anything I say?”
Du Xun pinched the omega’s nose. “No picky eating.”
Shen Zhuo widened his eyes: “You heard that?”
Du Xun smiled.
“I just couldn’t open my eyes, but I could hear everything you said to me these past few days.”
Du Xun transferred the ribs from his bowl to Shen Zhuo, his tone indifferent:
“Shen Zhuo is Du Xun’s wife, so Shen Zhuo will never leave Du Xun.”
Shen Zhuo froze, his face flushing red all the way to his neck.
If you know, you know…
Why repeat it, you bastard alpha!
He thought Du Xun hadn’t heard.
Seeing the little omega burying his head almost into the bowl, the alpha’s smile deepened:
“I’m very happy, really.”
Du Xun’s tone was sincere yet lonely:
“I once thought you wouldn’t love me.”
Shen Zhuo poked at the ribs in his bowl, his mind drifting uncontrollably for a moment.
“Why?”
Du Xun’s excellence didn’t need a list of achievements to prove; the battles under his command were textbook examples.
Even putting work aside, Du Xun was a perfect lover—thoughtful in everything, attentive everywhere.
“No one wouldn’t be moved by you.”
Shen Zhuo thought for a moment and gave a fair assessment, “If you treated others the way you treat me now, everyone would love you.”
“But I don’t want others.” Du Xun stared into the boy’s eyes. “Everything I have, I only want to use for you.”
The man’s gaze was passionate. Since the proposal, he no longer hid the feelings he had harbored for so many years.
Every expression of affection was so direct that Shen Zhuo wished he could pretend not to hear.
“Mm…” the boy muttered softly, “I know…”
Love seemed almost ready to spill out from those eyes.
Du Xun watched the boy keeping his head down and eating furiously, clearing his throat.
Only then did he avoid laughing out loud.
What to do when his omega is too cute?
Shen Zhuo shoveled two mouthfuls of rice before realizing the man was resting his chin on his hand, watching him.
“Why aren’t you eating?” Shen Zhuo looked up and saw the sickly pallor on the man’s face. “Is it not good?”
“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Madam.”
Du Xun smiled, “I feel Madam is much more appetizing.”
Shen Zhuo gave him a disgruntled side-eye.
Under his raven eyelashes, his moist black pupils revealed a hint of annoyance.
Delicate and cute.
Du Xun: “I want a kiss.”
Shen Zhuo raised an eyebrow, subconsciously checking his ability.
But he immediately realized this wasn’t Du Xun’s inner thought.
The man leaned forward, wrapped one arm around the boy’s neck, and nuzzled his nose against his cheek:
“Let me have a kiss… Madam.”
