Chapter 2
They say there is always one specific event that can alter the entire trajectory of a person’s life. For Xu Ziyan, that life-changing moment came from a ten-minute gaming video he stumbled upon online years ago.
It was a fan-edited compilation. The title remained fresh in Xu Ziyan’s memory to this day: [Resist] God Xie: Season 12 Kill Highlights.
On the video’s thumbnail, a man wearing headphones sat in front of a computer, the corner of his lips curled in a faint, barely-there smile. His posture was lazy, yet it radiated an inexplicable intensity and power.
Xu Ziyan had never been interested in these kinds of gaming videos, yet that day, as if possessed, he clicked on it. He watched the entire thing from start to finish without skipping a single second.
In the video, gunfire rattled incessantly, accompanied by explosions and flying debris. Amidst the chaos, the man known as “God Xie” stood atop a high bridge, wielding an SVD semi-automatic sniper rifle. Every enemy that appeared in his scope seemed to be instantly locked onto by his crosshairs. With a gunshot loud enough to pierce through the noise of the battlefield, a headshot notification would pop up—clean, efficient, and unspeakably cool.
In the next moment, the scene shifted to the real-world camera feed. The man sat in a gaming chair wearing a headset, his eyelids lowered, looking somewhat indifferent. His thin lips moved, his voice deep with a slight, magnetic rasp. The lights above him were bright; judging by the background, he was in a large stadium arena.
Through the dense cloud of bullet comments scrolling across the screen, Xu Ziyan vaguely pieced together the information: The man’s name was Xie Wei, ID: Shining. He was the in-game leader and sniper for Team TWG.
He also picked up some other miscellaneous details—like the fact that Xie Wei was 1.88 meters tall, came from a prominent family, and was an extremely rare Top-tier Alpha.
After the video ended, Xu Ziyan, who had never touched video games before, did something unprecedented: he turned on his computer and downloaded the game Resist. While waiting for the installation, he followed Xie Wei’s social media accounts across every platform, officially beginning his journey as a die-hard fan. It spiraled out of control from there.
Despite having no prior contact with shooting games, he displayed astonishing talent. At first, many accused him of hacking because he was so good. Eventually, Xu Ziyan’s ID began to dominate the leaderboards, making more people aware of this Medic player named Ice.
Gradually, professional teams began to contact him, but Xu Ziyan politely refused them all.
He already had a team he wanted to join.
After turning down a handful of invitations, Xu Ziyan continued to grind Ranked matches day and night. Finally, three months ago, he got his wish: an invitation from the TWG manager to attend the youth training camp for a tryout.
He had assumed that with his skills, he would quickly make a name for himself in the training camp.
He never expected that as soon as he entered the camp, a coach would target him because of his good looks and his Omega gender. Under the guise of “guidance,” the coach would grope his hands and waist, disgusting him to no end.
At eighteen, his temper was like a lit fuse. Xu Ziyan didn’t bother with politeness; he swung his fist and punched the fat pig of a man right in the face, leaving him with a bloody nose.
Unfortunately, he was too young and naive about how the world worked. The next day, the coach, having paid a fine and received a warning, returned to his post as if nothing had happened. Instead, it was Xu Ziyan who suffered. As a mere trainee, he was targeted at every turn. His application to join the team officially had been rejected three times in a row. He was suffering in silence.
If this continued, once the trial period ended, he would be kicked out of TWG.
What should I do?
Do I really have to…
No, no, no. That’s not right.
Xu Ziyan shook his head violently, tossing those messy thoughts out of his mind.
He picked up his phone and swiped to unlock the screen.
On the wallpaper, a young, handsome man draped in a TWG uniform leaned casually against a podium. His long, slender fingers gently caressed the World Championship trophy, a symbol of supreme honor. Behind him, golden confetti rained down like a storm; before him, countless spotlights from all over the world converged.
It was Xie Wei.
Xu Ziyan stared at the phone. Suddenly, as if he had made a firm decision, he bolted upright. He shut down his computer, grabbed the jacket off the back of his chair, and ran out the door.
If his tryout ended in such a muddled, hasty way, Xu Ziyan knew he would regret it for the rest of his life.
He wouldn’t use his pheromones to cheat his way in, but at the very least—
He wanted to tell Xie Wei to his face. He wanted to prove that he was strong, that he worked hard.
He wanted to fight for a chance to stand by his side!
