Chapter 62 part 1
It was summer in this world, late August. The summers in the south were notoriously humid and hot. In this environment, the greenery grew wildly, flowers vied for beauty, and the sky was a blue so deep it looked almost transparent, stretching out endlessly.
Qin Yao reached out and pulled the curtains open with a swish. Brightness flooded in. He turned to look at Bai He, who was curled up on the bed, smiling against the backlight. “Our Xiao Bao needs to open the window once in a while.”
Bai He moved lazily. After his eyes adjusted to the light, he kept them half-closed. Illuminated by the sun, his face seemed coated in a layer of soft down. He nuzzled his head into the pillow and let out a slow mm.
Qin Yao went over and scooped Bai He up. He hadn’t actually tormented Bai He much just now—just some kissing, hugging, and rubbing, nothing like the intensity of last night.
Perhaps because he had taken an afternoon nap, it was normal to feel lazy in the afternoon. Qin Yao, on the other hand, was always energetic. He carried the soft and limp Bai He to drink water, then carried him back to change his clothes, treating him like a large doll. The process was quite stress-relieving.
“Almost done, almost done. Come on, lift your arms,” Qin Yao coaxed softly. Bai He was tired, and ultimately, it was Qin Yao’s fault. They had carried on until late last night, and then again this morning until nearly noon. He had plenty of stamina, but Xiao Bao couldn’t quite keep up.
Although Qin Yao was never quite satisfied, he realized in hindsight that he had gone a bit overboard.
After helping Bai He dress, Qin Yao cupped Bai He’s face, looking at him again and again. “Xiao Bao, was I too much?”
Bai He lifted his eyelids, looking confused. “What are you referring to?”
Qin Yao pressed the tip of his tongue against his lower teeth. “I seem to lack restraint.”
Bai He woke up a bit more, looking into Qin Yao’s eyes. “You just figured that out?”
Qin Yao’s eyelids drooped, his expression incredibly aggrieved. “…Xiao Bao, you are catnip. I really couldn’t help myself. And your body didn’t seem to want me to leave either…”
He wrapped his arms around Bai He’s waist, burying his head to nuzzle Bai He’s neck, obsessively sniffing the gland at the back of his neck. “Besides, you felt good too, didn’t you?”
Bai He took a deep breath and pushed Qin Yao away. “If we don’t go out now, we’re not going out today.”
“Okay.” Qin Yao smiled and raised both hands in surrender. “I won’t tease you anymore.”
Bai He raised his hand to touch his gland, feeling that Qin Yao was doing it on purpose.
It was hot in the afternoon. By the time the two of them were ready to go out, it was already five o’clock. The sun slanted downwards, threading through the buildings, stretching their shadows long, just like the structures around them.
This was the county town, where the old district and the new district coexisted, looking like two eras interlaced, giving a visually stunning impact.
Leaving the house, their first destination was Bai He’s middle school, not far from home, requiring them to wind through a few streets of the old district.
Bai He had started boarding at school very early. His parents lived a city away. He didn’t attend middle school or university in the place where his parents lived. The city where his middle school was located left the deepest impression on him; the scenery here was beautiful. That was why Bai He chose to move back to this city to settle down after graduating from university.
He was young and inexperienced then, stepping on countless landmines while renting. Later, he learned a lot. He had lived in his current apartment the longest and had gotten comfortable, but his parents had managed to fish out his address. He wanted to move but couldn’t bear to leave.
It was because this place was too beautiful.
Especially the old district. Bai He’s rental wasn’t remote; the balcony window opened right towards the old district. The neighboring house belonged to an elderly couple, a self-built house. Once summer arrived, that wall would be covered in pink roses. He could see them just by opening the window.
Unfortunately, Bai He gradually stopped liking to open the window later on. Perhaps it was because he learned his father was still gambling, or maybe staying up late disordered his body functions, leading to a bad mood. It wasn’t until today, when Qin Yao pulled open the curtains, that the scent of flowers rushed in, and the sight of the blooming roses opposite filled his eyes.
Only then did he remember that his original intention in moving here was to live happily.
The old district was like this; flowers could be seen everywhere, filling courtyards or climbing buildings, fragrant inside and out.
Winding past a few small streets full of flowers and grass, there was a long flight of stairs to descend. Below the long stairs was a long avenue. On both sides was the densely packed, chaotic old town, while further away, the towering buildings belonged to the new district.
The sun hung on the horizon like a wheel of fire, as if about to set the sky ablaze. Bai He walked behind Qin Yao. Qin Yao held his hand, leading him. They walked slowly down the stairs. Falling petals from the red flowers by the roadside brushed past them, leaving a trail of fragrance.
“So, this world only has two genders?” Qin Yao looked thoughtful, seeming to find it wonderful. “Then Xiao Bao, does you liking me count as liking the same sex?”
Bai He couldn’t help but laugh. “Is that strange?”
“Not strange. Same sex, it’s like double A.” Qin Yao smiled. “If Xiao Bao were an alpha, I would still fall for you.”
Bai He turned his head away. “That ‘if’ doesn’t stand. I’m not an alpha.”
He paused for a moment. “Qin Yao, I’m back, but the gland is still here.”
“Zhang Yao said you have been completely accepted by our world. You are a person of that world.” Qin Yao stopped. He looked up at Bai He, who stood a few steps above him. Behind Bai He, against the sky, was a rain of flower petals blown by the wind. “You are you. If this place can’t contain Xiao Bao, there will be another world open for you. Over there, you are also you.”
Bai He felt strange. He lowered his eyes. “What exactly is going on with Zhang Yao?”
Qin Yao had explained a bit when he first arrived, but not clearly. Bai He had a guess but wasn’t sure.
“He’s like you, but not entirely the same,” Qin Yao said. “He is also a transmigrator, but he seems to have some mission to complete.”
“He told you everything?” Bai He frowned.
Qin Yao reached out and smoothed the frown between Bai He’s brows. “I’m not sure what he held back, but he should have told me the key points.”
He smiled calmly. “If there’s anything false, we can teach him a lesson when we go back. He’s the one who separated us. When the time comes, however Xiao Bao wants to deal with him, I’ll help you.”
Bai He asked, “What do you think Zhang Yao’s mission is?”
Qin Yao shook his head. “Not sure, but if he’s a threat to us, I can take him out first.”
Bai He: “……”
He slowly closed his eyes. “Qin Yao, you are not allowed to talk about committing crimes with such a straight face.”
“Understood~”
Qin Yao smilingly squeezed Bai He’s palm. He stepped up a stair to get closer to Bai He, the smile on his face calming down a lot. His fingers stroked the hair by Bai He’s ear. “Little Bai He, within the jurisdiction of the law, I indeed can’t do much. But I still have the ability to make a person disappear silently. From what I understand, Zhang Yao can’t leave that world without completing his mission. And since he begged me to come find you, it shows he messed up the mission. So, we have plenty of opportunities to make him suffer.”
Bai He was stunned. He suddenly remembered that Qin Yao’s family was one of the three top families. What means wouldn’t they have? As long as they wanted to, nothing was impossible.
Qin Yao’s smiling face all day long masked the ruthlessness inside him.
“Or, how do you want to punish those two people in this world?” Qin Yao’s hands pinched Bai He’s waist, his voice bewitching. “Xiao Bao, if you don’t have the heart to do it, just leave it to me. I can do it. I keep my word.”
Bai He’s heart raced. He abruptly raised his hand to cover Qin Yao’s mouth, stopping him from speaking. “What are you talking about? This is a society ruled by law too. You have people over there, but who do you have here?”
