Chapter 64 part 1
When Bai He woke up, he found himself in an unfamiliar environment, but he didn’t feel uneasy, as the air was filled with Qin Yao’s pheromones.
Subconsciously reaching out to the side, he felt nothing but empty space, though the sheets were still warm. He slowly withdrew his hand, curling his fingers inward. Just then, the bedroom door opened.
Qin Yao walked in quietly, squatting down by the bed and propping himself up with one hand on the mattress. He observed Bai He, whose eyes were closed, and chuckled softly, “Is Xiao Bao pretending to be asleep?”
“…” Bai He opened his eyes, immediately met by Qin Yao’s beaming face resting on the edge of the bed. He lifted a hand to ruffle Qin Yao’s hair. “Is this your home?”
“Mm.” Qin Yao leaned in, nuzzling Bai He’s head. “We’re back. Did you sleep well?”
“Pretty well.” Bai He sat up. It was morning, and the bright daylight shone outside. It was winter here, just after the New Year. Bai He was wearing Qin Yao’s shirt, with the top few buttons undone, revealing a patch of skin below his neck.
Qin Yao stared at that spot for a long while before shifting his gaze away, looking composed. “It’s cold outside. Wear my clothes for now.”
Saying that, he took out a white down jacket from the wardrobe, along with a pair of white pants.
“My Little Dad bought these, but they were too small.” Qin Yao brought the clothes over. “Try them on.”
The clothes were a bit large on him. Although not excessively so, Bai He could still distinctly feel the difference in build between himself and Qin Yao.
After getting dressed and freshening up, Bai He followed Qin Yao downstairs. At this hour, there weren’t many people around in the villa. Qin Diandian was sleeping in, Qin Wei had gone to the company, the old man was out for his daily walk, and Nan Yu was watering flowers in the garden.
When Bai He reached the ground floor, Nan Yu happened to be walking in with a watering can. Seeing Bai He coming down the stairs, a flash of delight appeared in Mr. Nan’s eyes. He smiled and said to Bai He, “You look really good in that outfit.”
“…Thank you, Brother Nan.” Bai He felt a bit awkward.
“Of course he looks good in my clothes.” Qin Yao reached out and pinched Bai He’s cheek, pulling up a small, soft chunk of flesh.
“Look at you, so proud.” Nan Yu laughed. He set down the watering can and walked over to link arms with Bai He. “Come on, you haven’t had breakfast yet. I left some for you in the microwave.”
As Bai He was led away by Nan Yu, his eyelashes fluttered rapidly, his gaze toward Qin Yao filled with a plea for help.
Qin Yao crossed his arms and said to Bai He, “Xiao Bao, rest well at home. I have some things to take care of, but I’ll be back soon. Let my dad keep you company for now.”
“…” Bai He pressed his lips into a thin line, feeling a bit shy about Qin Yao calling him “Xiao Bao” in front of Nan Yu. “Alright, go ahead then.”
Qin Yao wanted to go over and kiss Bai He, but glancing at his Little Dad’s smiling face, he restrained himself.
Now, only Bai He and Nan Yu were left in the house. Qin Diandian still hadn’t gotten up. Bai He followed Nan Yu to the kitchen, then carried a bowl of hot porridge to the dining room.
Nan Yu walked ahead, placing the breakfast items on the table before gesturing for Bai He to sit. He then sat opposite Bai He, saying nothing, just watching with a smile as Bai He ate breakfast.
Bai He wasn’t uncomfortable, just a little unaccustomed to it.
After the meal, Nan Yu asked Bai He if he wanted to see the flowers in the garden.
The last time Bai He was here was on New Year’s Eve, and it was already somewhat late then. There were many flowers and plants in the garden, but he hadn’t looked closely.
Bai He helped carry the watering can and went to the backyard with Nan Yu.
The Qin family garden occupied three sides of the villa, with a separate greenhouse in the backyard where Mr. Nan grew his favorite flowers. The greenhouse maintained a constant temperature, and various flowers bloomed magnificently.
Bai He didn’t know how to tend to plants, so he just followed Nan Yu around to help. Mr. Nan initiated all the topics, ensuring there were no awkward silences. Bai He could feel the gentleness Mr. Nan extended to him.
Around noon, Qin Yao returned, bringing someone with him. Bai He saw clearly that it was a pale-faced Zhang Yao. Having not seen him for a few days, Zhang Yao looked much weaker, as if he had been stripped to the bone.
After Qin Yao had lunch, he went inside to greet Nan Yu. When he came out, he found Bai He and Zhang Yao chatting.
“What are you talking about?” Qin Yao strode over, hugging Bai He from behind and staring at Zhang Yao with a fake smile.
Zhang Yao: “…”
Taking a deep breath, he shrugged. “Heaven and earth as my witness, you can be jealous of anyone but me. I’m straight!”
Qin Yao took a few seconds to process this. “I don’t care. Stay away from my baby.”
Saying that, he buried his head to look at Bai He. “Xiao Bao, what were you talking about?”
Bai He paused. “He said he can’t leave.”
“What does that mean?” Qin Yao looked at Zhang Yao.
“It means I can’t leave.” Zhang Yao sighed, then suddenly gave a bitter laugh, one filled with utter helplessness. “I traveled through several worlds and finally saved up enough points. Now, it’s all gone, wasted in this world.”
He waved his hand as he spoke. “The main system can no longer find the original novel related to this world. Bai He, you’re amazing. You single-handedly changed the direction of the original plot.”
Zhang Yao looked at Bai He and spoke frankly. “I don’t like the original novel. What happens to the main gong (attacker) and shou (receiver) later is none of my business. I didn’t intend to take the mission seriously from the start.”
“Later, the system flagged me for a violation. I had no choice but to carry out the mission. I had to correct the deviated plot, which is why I thought of sending you back. I thought if I sent you back, the original Bai He of this world would return. But who knew?”
He chuckled. “You left, but that ‘Bai He’ didn’t come back. Instead, this world couldn’t function without you. The original novel was erased, and the story here was rebuilt, no longer controlled by that original text. So, you were recognized as a person of this world, and your physiology completely matches the omegas here. The ‘you’ from your original world was erased. You’re fine; you can stay here forever. But I’m forced to stay too.”
Bai He remained quiet for a moment, sorting through his thoughts. Only then did he understand why his gland was still there after going back.
“Then why do you have to stay?” he suddenly asked.
“Me?” Zhang Yao sighed, appearing somewhat unfazed. “Task failed, not enough points. The system gave me two choices: either become system logistics support or stay in this world.”
“So you chose to stay?” Bai He was puzzled. “Isn’t staying more trouble for you? You have a criminal record; it’ll be hard to find a job.”
“Thanks for your concern,” Zhang Yao laughed exasperatedly. “That’s because you don’t know what system logistics does. Overall, staying is better. At least I can still be human.”
Bai He remained silent, then suddenly said, “Staying doesn’t seem that great for you either.”
Zhang Yao’s eyebrow twitched. “…What do you mean?”
“I hold grudges,” Bai He said calmly. “You’d better think of a way to appease my anger.”
As a fellow transmigrator, plotting against Bai He multiple times and sending him back—adding all these things up, Bai He wouldn’t be satisfied without some payback.
“You…” Zhang Yao laughed awkwardly. “Don’t be like that. I was forced too.”
Bai He turned his head away. “Who cares if you were forced?”
Qin Yao understood. Wrapping his arm around Bai He’s waist, he asked Zhang Yao, “Where’s 007?”
“Why ask about him?” Zhang Yao was tired from standing, holding his sore waist. “I told you, mission failed, forced to stay in this world. 007 isn’t my system anymore.”
“That thing was pretty useful.”
Qin Yao’s faint smile sent a chill down Zhang Yao’s spine. Then Zhang Yao saw him take out his phone. “Without 007, you have no cheats.”
Qin Yao found a number and dialed it in front of Zhang Yao. The person who answered sounded hoarse and irritable.
“Bro, you better have something important. I’m annoyed right now.”
