Chapter 152: At Least Try to Dodge
Jiang Su shot him a grumpy glare. “Nonsense! Wouldn’t you be nervous if it were you?”
After asking, he felt it was a wasted question.
How could Huo Qingyan possibly be nervous?
Jiang Su took a deep breath, trying to relax.
As someone named Jiang, attending the Huo Group’s shareholder meeting as the largest shareholder… no matter how he thought about it, he felt he lacked the standing.
“I get nervous, too,” Huo Qingyan’s voice sounded in the quiet car.
Jiang Su: “What do you get nervous about?”
“The first time I attended the company’s shareholder meeting, I was very nervous. I smoked half a pack of cigarettes in the lounge before walking into the conference room acting as if nothing was wrong.” Huo Qingyan’s tone was very serious.
Jiang Su was twenty-six this year. The year Huo Qingyan took over the Huo Group, he was twenty-fiveโan age even younger than Jiang Su was now.
With the massive Huo Group resting on his shoulders, he had no other choice.
When his eldest brother took over the Jiang Group, the family elders escorted and protected him until he could stand on his own.
But Huo Qingyan had always been isolated and without help.
The pity in Jiang Su’s eyes was too obvious. Huo Qingyan lowered his gaze and took out a pack of cigarettes. “Want one?”
Jiang Su gave a hum of agreement.
After handing him one, Huo Qingyan lit it for him.
After finishing a cigarette, Jiang Su indeed relaxed a lot.
“Let’s go.”
Just as he was about to unbuckle his seatbelt, Huo Qingyan beat him to it, reaching out to press the release button.
Jiang Su looked up at him in confusion.
Huo Qingyan’s gaze was deep and heavy. “I’m here. Don’t worry.”
His firm and steady tone was enough to soothe the heart.
Jiang Su nodded. “Okay.”
Click. Huo Qingyan unbuckled the seatbelt for him.
The two got out from opposite sides and walked into the Huo Group building in unison.
Seeing Huo Qingyan, the receptionist was extremely agitated. “President Huo!”
The various rumors had been causing a stir these past few days, and the employees of the Huo Group were in a state of panic. Huo Qingyan’s capabilities were obvious to all; absolutely no one had high hopes for Bai Mu.
Inside the elevator, Jiang Su said to Huo Qingyan, “Your employees are all waiting for you to come back.”
Huo Qingyan spoke faintly, “I won’t leave them be.”
If he didn’t have any affection for the Huo Group, Huo Qingyan wouldn’t have worked so desperately all these years.
The greater the ability, the greater the responsibility.
…
In the conference room, the other shareholders had already arrived.
The Huo Group was a family business. The holders of the other twenty-five percent of the shares were all founding veterans of the group.
When Huo Qingyan first took over the Huo Group, these veterans were very unconvinced and gave him quite a hard time.
However, later on, they became completely convinced by him.
Seeing Huo Qingyan, they all crowded around as if they had found their backbone.
“President Huo, you’re finally willing to show your face!”
“Exactly…”
Huo Qingyan raised a hand to signal for silence.
“This matter was handled improperly by me. I ask for your forgiveness.” With that, he bowed slightly to show his apology.
The shareholders were stunned.
Huo Qingyan’s capability was undeniable; they didn’t dare question any decision he made.
Yet now, seeing Huo Qingyan apologize to them so solemnly, they felt somewhat flattered and overwhelmed.
Huo Qingyan pulled Jiang Su, who was standing to the side, in front of him. “This is Jiang Su.”
Logically speaking, shareholders have the right to know about changes in company equity.
However, no one expected Huo Qingyan to transfer all his shares to Jiang Su. Plus, with Huo Qingyan having the final say internally, keeping it a secret was an easy task.
The shareholders had only learned in the past few days that the company’s largest shareholder had long since changed hands.
Jiang Su had been zoning out a bit earlier and was still a little dazed when he was pulled over.
“President Jiang!”
After hearing this uniform greeting of “President Jiang,” he couldn’t be dazed even if he wanted to.
Jiang Su squeezed out a dry phrase: “Hello, everyone.”
After sitting down, Jiang Su breathed a quiet sigh of relief.
Huo Qingyan instructed the secretary to go out and pour a glass of water. He pushed the water to Jiang Su. “Drink some water.”
“Thanks.”
Jiang Su drank the water, checked the time, and whispered to Huo Qingyan, “It’s almost ten o’clock. Why hasn’t Bai Mu arrived yet?”
“Wait. He’ll come eventually.” He just wanted to put on airs and make everyone wait for him.
Jiang Su understood this point as well, gave a light snort, and didn’t speak further.
Ten o’clock sharp…
The conference room door was pushed open from the outside.
“Everyone’s here, I…”
Bai Mu walked in with a group of bodyguards, taking off his sunglasses as he spoke. But when he saw Jiang Su, he froze abruptly.
He murmured in disbelief, “Jiang Su…”
Two chairs were placed at the head of the long conference table, already occupied by Jiang Su and Huo Qingyan.
The secretary came forward to guide Bai Mu to a seat on the side. “President Bai, please sit.”
Bai Mu’s expression had returned to calm.
He ignored the secretary and walked straight to Huo Qingyan. “Brother, what is an outsider doing at the shareholder meeting?”
“Since it’s called a shareholder meeting, those present are naturally shareholders.”
The speaker was Jiang Su.
Bai Mu looked at Jiang Su. Those beautiful, gentle eyes were now cold and dark.
The slight guilt he felt when first seeing Jiang Su had long since vanished. Unease gradually rose in Bai Mu’s heart. “What do you mean?”
“You didn’t read the contract carefully, did you? Did you confirm how many total shares were in Huo Qingyan’s hands?”
Jiang Su sized up Bai Mu. He had known Bai Mu for over a year, but he really hadn’t expected Bai Mu’s ambition to be this big.
With words this clear, what could Bai Mu not understand?
He opened the contract and saw that it stated twenty percent of the shares.
“How is this possible! How could you only have twenty percent of the shares in your hand!” Bai Mu’s eyes turned red with rage, and he rushed forward to grab Huo Qingyan.
Seeing Huo Qingyan sitting there immovable as a mountain, Jiang Su stood up and intercepted the arm Bai Mu extended.
Then, he turned his head to look at Huo Qingyan: “You should have at least tried to dodge!”
Huo Qingyan’s look was a bit dazed, and a bit innocent.
Just then, another group of bodyguards rushed in.
Jiang Su: “…” Damn, if you had arrangements, you should have said so earlier.
The bodyguards came over to separate Bai Mu. Even if Bai Mu wanted to make a move, he couldn’t get near Huo Qingyan.
Bai Mu still wanted to attack Huo Qingyan unwillingly but was held immobile by the bodyguards.
“I had several lawyers look at the contract, and they all said there was no problem! I was even worried you’d pull a trick and lock the contract in a safe. I guarded against everything, but I still lost to you! Huo Qingyan! You’ve got guts! You’ve really got fucking guts!”
After his plan succeeded, Bai Mu was too happy. He didn’t read the contract carefully at all. He only asked the lawyers to confirm if the contract was real and valid, and confirmed that it was indeed all the shares in Huo Qingyan’s hands, then locked the contract away.
It turned out that today he realized Huo Qingyan had been playing him from the start!
The shareholders saw that the next part was time for Huo Qingyan to handle his private affairs.
One of the shareholders stood up. “After discussion, we unanimously agree to let President Huo continue to serve as CEO. We wonder if President Jiang…”
Jiang Su: “I also agree.”
“The proposal is passed by more than half. It will be hard work for President Huo in the future. Since the meeting is over, we will take our leave.”
The group of shareholders finished speaking and left in a hurry.
Jiang Su: “…” Isn’t this shareholder meeting a bit too hasty??
