Chapter 42: Heartstrings Stirred
The Space System added, “To be precise, his status must be extremely exalted.”
Su Muyao communicated with the Space System via thought, “Do you know his background then?”
The Space System replied, “I don’t know. This Master Xie seems very mysterious and powerful; I can’t scan any information on him.” “But he bears no ill will toward you.”
With that, Su Muyao understood.
However, Su Muyao truly felt embarrassed to accept it.
“It’s too valuable.”
Xie Guixue said, “Miss Su saving Xie is a debt that cannot be repaid by these mere worldly possessions.” “Please, Miss Su, accept them.”
Su Muyao looked at the space bag; it contained many silver crystal coins.
She thought for a moment and said, “I won’t accept this, but I will take this pendant.”
A life-saving magical artifact could protect her. Even though she had beastmen husbands now, once they dissolved their relationship, they would no longer protect her. It would be trouble if they turned against her. So, having more means of self-preservation was beneficial.
Su Muyao was insistent; she only accepted two silver crystal coins and the pendant, returning everything else to Master Xie.
Xie Guixue didn’t insist further. “I have troubled Miss Su today. Xie will take his leave now.”
Su Muyao felt that even Master Xie’s voice sounded refreshing and pleasant.
Xie Yi’s focus relaxed, and his attention dispersed. Just then, he caught the rich aroma wafting through the air.
“So… so fragrant!” He couldn’t help but mutter, mostly because this scent was making him drool.
The aroma stirred his appetite, and he looked with amazement at the skewers emitting the scent. His stomach rumbled loudly.
Master Xie had already stood up and taken a few steps out, but seeing Xie Yi like this, he spoke, his voice like light mist, “Xie Yi!”
Xie Yi looked at the skewers with reluctance.
Thinking of the magical artifact they had given her, Su Muyao spoke up, “Um, I made some skewers. If you don’t mind, stay and have some!” “Help me taste test them while you’re at it!”
Xie Yi grinned excitedly. “Then thank you, Sister Su!”
He didn’t act like a stranger at all. The originally cold young lad smiled now, becoming sunny and cute.
Su Muyao looked at Master Xie; he was wearing a veiled hat, so she couldn’t see his expression. But for his subordinate to have such a personality showed that he usually indulged his people. He must be a person with a very good temperament! Even his voice was that pleasant.
Thinking of the artifact Master Xie gave her, Su Muyao became much more enthusiastic. “Master Xie, please sit down and eat together!” “Taste the flavor of the skewers.”
Xie Yi hurriedly stepped forward and pulled his Master’s sleeve. “Young Master, you haven’t eaten all day. This smells so good, sit down and eat a little!”
Xie Guixue let out a helpless, soft sigh.
To Su Muyao, his sigh sounded like snow falling in a deserted valley—cool and ethereal. Just a faint sigh could easily tug at one’s heartstrings. It seemed to carry a sense of helplessness and indulgence.
Xie Guixue said in a refreshing voice, “Then I will trouble Miss Su.”
Su Muyao said, “It’s no trouble. Sit down and eat together!”
“Alright.”
Xie Guixue then sat down nearby. Even his movements were noble and elegant.
A trace of darkness seemed to stain the depths of Wen Nanxi’s gentle, picturesque eyes. He watched this Master Xie, never relaxing his vigilance. But Su Muyao didn’t seem to guard against or reject them.
Su Muyao finished grilling the meat skewers. She handed one to Wen Nanxi first, then to Xie Yi and Master Xie. “Eat with peace of mind. There’s no medicine in it, just some seasoning spices added.”
Master Xie spoke softly, “Miss Su need not explain. I trust Miss Su.” Saying this, he extended that hand, elegant as plum blossoms, and took the meat skewer Su Muyao offered.
Hearing his words, Su Muyao’s heart was somewhat touched. It felt truly good to be trusted. This was the first person to trust her since she came to the Beast World Continent.
Meanwhile, ignoring the heat, Xie Yi had already started eating. Once it was in his mouth, Xie Yi was incredibly excited. “Wow, this is simply too delicious.” “Young Master, I’ve never eaten such delicious meat.” “I didn’t know meat could smell this good. Boohoo, it’s really too fragrant.” “What was that roasted meat I made before? It can’t compare to this…” Xie Yi talked while eating, his mouth stuffed full.
Seeing him eat so happily, Su Muyao had to admit she felt quite happy inside. Making food and having someone appreciate it so much was like being provided with emotional value.
The smile on Su Muyao’s face became even brighter. “If it’s tasty, eat more. There’s more meat in the house, I can make more.” Marinating and grilling it fresh was quick anyway. “But be careful, it’s hot.”
Xie Yi’s mouth was full, and he spoke indistinctly, “Not hot, this temperature is just right for eating.” “Too fragrant.”
Xie Yi ate quickly, one skewer after another. It was as if he was starving.
Xie Yi looked at his Master and found he was still holding the skewer without moving. He urged, “Young Master, it’s delicious, hurry and eat!” Such delicious food should be tasted by the Young Master too. “Really, Young Master, trust me this time!”
Xie Yi looked at his Master with some worry. His Master was a picky eater with a poor appetite; sometimes he couldn’t keep food down. That was why his health was always poor.
Su Muyao looked at Xie Guixue and realized he hadn’t eaten yet. Looking at his fragile, weak appearance, as if he would fall if the wind blew, Su Muyao thought of his pulse condition and said, “Master Xie, you can try the taste.” Also, since he trusted her so much, she hoped he could eat a little more.
Only then did Xie Guixue gently lift the veil a little, bringing the meat skewer to his lips and taking a light bite. Even when eating, he was elegantly peerless, as if he had received excellent upbringing and discipline since childhood.
As he lifted the veil slightly, his chin was revealed. His skin was as lustrously white as jade, his flesh like ice and snow. The shape of his chin was so exquisite and perfect, like the most moving ink wash painting. It seemed to gather the spiritual beauty of mountains and rivers, carrying a hazy aesthetic.
Su Muyao was stunned for a moment. Realizing it was impolite to stare, she quickly retracted her gaze. But she became even more curious in her heart. This Master Xie was simply too mysterious.
Just as Su Muyao continued grilling skewers, Xie Guixue spoke, his voice like light mist, “The taste is very good.” “Thank you, Miss Su.”
Su Muyao turned to him and said, “I’m glad you think it’s good. If you don’t mind, eat a little more.” Although she couldn’t see his brows or expression clearly, hearing his voice now, though soft, she felt it seemed to carry a trace of gentleness. It wasn’t as bitingly cold as the beginning.
After a pause, Su Muyao added, “You two eat more. There’s still a lot of meat in the house. I’ll marinate and skewer some more.”
This was the first beastman she had interacted with in this world using her own identity. It had nothing to do with her predecessor, so she could relax involuntarily.
Watching Su Muyao talking with this Master Xie, and seeing the bright, dazzling smile on her face, an indescribable strangeness suddenly filled Wen Nanxi’s heart. He had never seen Su Muyao smile like that at anyone. That was an unmasked smile, without any sense of alienation. Facing this strange Master Xie, she seemed to reveal her true nature.
