Chapter 4: I Won’t Divorce

Wen Xuyue’s breath hitched, and his heart pounded wildly in his chest.

“What… what did you say?”

“You suddenly appeared in front of me, wasn’t it just to check on the state of our marriage so you could take advantage of the situation?”

As if his thoughts had been pierced through, Wen Xuyue hurriedly explained, “No, I just wanted to see Gu Xuezhang…”

“Regardless of what your intentions are, from the moment you accepted the job I gave you, your motives became impure.” Xie Miaohan cut him off.

Wen Xuyue was completely exposed, his cheeks burning red, wishing he could flee the spot.

Working at the Gu Group was simply too tempting. It would stabilize his career, and he would be able to see Gu Huaiye often.

Calming down, Wen Xuyue grasped the key point in Xie Miaohan’s words and instantly gained confidence.

“As his partner, you actually want to bring down his company.”

Facing Wen Xuyue’s accusation, Xie Miaohan’s expression remained cold and calm.

“I’ve been trapped here by him for ten years, forced to undergo surgery. Shouldn’t I hate him?”

Wen Xuyue was left speechless.

True enough, any Alpha would find it impossible to accept such a thing. That Xie Miaohan had endured it for ten years showed he had been merciful enough already.

But no matter what, Wen Xuyue would never hurt the person he liked.

“Sorry, I won’t help you. You’d better not have such thoughts either. If you really can’t stand it, just get a divorce. If you dare hurt Gu Xuezhang, I will have no choice but to tell him your plan.”

Xie Miaohan suddenly let out a scoff. “Do you think that if I divorce him, you’ll be able to get close to him? As long as he has money, you will never even be in line.”

“It doesn’t matter, I am willing…”

“Once I divorce him, he will transfer his hatred onto you. He’ll use his connections to drive you out of District A completely, forcing you to stay in the most chaotic and impoverished area of the country for the rest of your life. If that’s what you’re willing to accept, then I have nothing more to say.”

Wen Xuyue fell silent.

After a long while, he said, “After it’s done, you must give me a sum of money, enough for me to support Gu Xuezhang.”

Xie Miaohan curled his lips, his eyes devoid of any smile.

“Deal.”

Gu Huaiye sneezed for the umpteenth time, lifting his arm to extend a hand toward Chen Zirui.

Chen Zirui opened another pack of tissues, pulled out two sheets, and handed them to Gu Huaiye.

“Why do you have to be so stubborn? Would it have killed you to ask someone for an umbrella? You just had to brave the rain to catch a ride.”

His retreating figure probably hadn’t looked very dashing; he must have looked like a drowned rat.

After wiping his nose with the tissue, Gu Huaiye glared at Chen Zirui.

“Is there something wrong with your brain, or is it mine? Asking me to borrow an umbrella from a homewrecker—I’d rather die.”

“So they really… hooked up?”

“Don’t know…”

Gu Huaiye lay back on the sofa and stuffed the snotty tissue into Chen Zirui’s hand.

Chen Zirui was used to being Gu Huaiye’s lackey, so he didn’t feel disgusted. He tossed it casually behind him, landing it perfectly in the trash can.

Seeing this, Chen Zirui felt a bit excited; his basketball skills hadn’t degraded at all.

Just as he was about to turn his head to ask for Gu Huaiye’s praise, seeing Gu Huaiye’s listless expression, he swallowed his words.

“I asked him a few times, and he didn’t deny it. The odds are it’s true.”

“Damn! That’s too much!” Chen Zirui said indignantly. “Such an unchaste Omega, just dump him directly.”

Gu Huaiye lifted his eyelids to look at Chen Zirui. “He doesn’t really count as an Omega.”

“Who cares what he counts as? He married you, yet he’s still so fickle. Brother Gu, let’s find a lawyer right now, preserve the evidence of his cheating, and make him leave with nothing—don’t leave him a single cent.”

Gu Huaiye extended a finger and flicked Chen Zirui’s forehead.

“I’m not sick in the head. Why would I divorce him for no reason?”

Chen Zirui covered his forehead, looking at Gu Huaiye with a strange expression.

Isn’t this exactly being sick in the head?

The mistress had already been arranged into the company, yet he still wasn’t divorcing quickly? Was he treating this like a game?

“I still can’t bear to let him go. We’ve been together for so many years; I’m already used to him.” Gu Huaiye sneezed again, his voice thick with nasal congestion. “I won’t lose to Wen Xuyue. I could snatch him away back then, and I can still do it now.”

“Did they really date back then?” Chen Zirui asked curiously.

“Not sure. Anyway, everyone said so, so they probably did.”

Thinking about this made Gu Huaiye angry. He had clearly met Xie Miaohan before Wen Xuyue did. Just because both he and Xie Miaohan were Alphas and weren’t accepted by social norms, it had allowed Wen Xuyue to sneak in.

“But it’s so infuriating. I really feel aggrieved for you.”

“Divorce isn’t that easy. Besides, he still has the shares I gave him. Even if he leaves with nothing else, he’ll still be very rich.” Gu Huaiye huffed coldly. “I won’t be stupid enough to divorce and let them live happily ever after.”

Whenever this topic came up, Chen Zirui just couldn’t understand it at all.

Marrying a powerless Alpha was one thing, but giving away so many shares as a betrothal gift on top of that?

He did admire Gu Huaiye sometimes, but on this specific point, he genuinely felt Gu Huaiye had been kicked in the head by a donkey.

Being a love-struck fool to this extent was completely incurable.

He even suspected that Gu Huaiye’s dad hadn’t been hospitalized due to old age, but rather from anger caused by his son.

“By the way, how are you going to explain this to your dad?” Chen Zirui asked.

“I don’t plan to explain. The matter between Xie Miaohan and me stops with you; don’t spread it around.”

Chen Zirui made an “OK” gesture.

At that moment, the door to Chen Zirui’s room opened, and a beautiful, delicate boy walked in.

“Brother! Why did you take my—Ah!!”

The boy screamed and quickly slammed the door shut!

Gu Huaiye: “…”

Chen Zirui: “…”

“My brother’s brain isn’t quite normal. Please bear with him.”

“I can tell.”

The boy opened the door again, saying angrily, “Where am I not normal? Why are you always slandering me in front of Brother Gu?”

After saying that, he accidentally made eye contact with Gu Huaiye, immediately blushing and hiding half his body outside the door.

He just poked his head out, his expression shy, eyes darting around everywhere but daring to look at Gu Huaiye’s face.

Chen Zirui was speechless. “Do you think you look normal like this?”

“Who told you not to tell me…” Chen Xialin paused, cleared his throat, and continued in a pinched voice, “Not to tell me that Brother Gu was here? You made me totally unprepared.”

Chen Zirui: He’s going to puke.

Gu Huaiye’s nose started itching again, and he couldn’t help but sneeze.

Chen Xialin noticed and showed a look of concern. “Brother Gu, are you sick?”

“Just a small cold.”

“I’ll go find some cold medicine for you.”

Dropping that sentence, Chen Xialin turned and ran off.

“How old is your brother again?”

“Almost thirty.” Chen Zirui said with a look of disgust. “He’s just childish like this; you’ll get used to it.”

“You two are biological, right? How come you aren’t alike at all? He feels a bit more well-behaved than you.” Gu Huaiye teased.

“Nonsense. I only have this one brother; how could we not be biological?”

Chen Zirui’s father had a bunch of lovers outside, and quite a few illegitimate children too.

Chen Xialin was an Omega, so naturally, he couldn’t inherit the Chen family business. Chen Zirui’s personality was too slouchy; if he didn’t pull himself together soon, he would be replaced by an illegitimate son sooner or later.

Sometimes Chen Zirui actually envied Gu Huaiye.

An only child, doted on by his parents since childhood.

Chen Zirui suddenly remembered something and joked, “If you had fulfilled the engagement with my brother back then, we would be in-laws now. I could even hear you call me Big Brother. How great would that be?”

Gu Huaiye kicked him in the butt.

“Keep dreaming!”
