Chapter 5: You’re Sleeping in the Small Room Tonight
“I’m not joking. You and my brother are so compatible pheromone-wise. It’s such a pity you two didn’t get married back then.”
Their families had similar backgrounds and knew each other well. If they had become in-laws, it would have been a powerful union, a joyous occasion piled upon another.
“Besides, my brother likes you so much, he definitely wouldn’t have cuckolded you. And even if he dared to, Laozi would break his legs.” Chen Zirui nudged Gu Huaiye’s shoulder with his elbow, wearing a somewhat punchable expression. “Thinking about it now, do you regret it a little?”
“Give it a rest. I don’t like that kind of delicate, fussy Omega.”
Chen Zirui quickly glanced at the door. Seeing that Chen Xialin hadn’t come in yet, he breathed a sigh of relief.
If Chen Xialin had heard that, he would have thrown a tantrum and cried all day.
“You don’t like Omegas, yet you took Xie Miaohan to get surgery.”
“That’s different. I was mainly afraid that when his rut came, he’d go out and…”
Gu Huaiye paused, Wen Xuyue’s face flashing through his mind.
Even becoming an Omega couldn’t stop Xie Miaohan from messing around.
“Forget it, let’s not talk about this.”
Gu Huaiye lay down, resting his head on his hands and closing his eyes.
“Take me in for the night. I don’t really want to go back today.”
He was afraid that if he went back and saw Xie Miaohan’s face, he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from starting another fight.
He was also afraid that Xie Miaohan wouldn’t come home, staying out to fool around with that shameless male vixen instead.
Gu Huaiye couldn’t control his violent temper. Not wanting to make their relationship even worse, he chose to escape.
“You’re going to sleep on the sofa?” Chen Zirui quickly stood up. “That won’t do. I’ll arrange for you to sleep in the guest room.”
“Don’t. It’s safer staying here with you. I’m a bit afraid your brother might try something.”
Chen Zirui: “…”
That was true.
If Gu Huaiye slept alone in the guest room, Chen Xialin might just take the opportunity to sneak in.
His brother’s likeness for Gu Huaiye bordered on obsession.
He was almost thirty, yet he had no thoughts of getting married, spending every day hoping for Gu Huaiye to divorce so he could marry into the Gu family.
He looked shy on the surface, but he had a lot of nerve.
“Then you sleep in my bed; I’ll take the sofa.”
Gu Huaiye turned over, his back to Chen Zirui.
“No need. Don’t disturb me; let me sleep for a while.”
Chen Zirui immediately shut his mouth.
A short while later, Chen Xialin came knocking.
Chen Zirui quickly walked over, opened the door, and blocked the entrance with his body to stop Chen Xialin from entering.
“He’s asleep. Don’t come in and cause trouble.”
Chen Xialin stood on his tiptoes. Seeing Gu Huaiye asleep on the sofa, he hurriedly said, “Why did you let him sleep on the sofa? There are so many rooms in the house; sleeping on the sofa is so uncomfortable. You really don’t know how to take care of guests.”
“I have to guard against you, don’t I?”
Chen Xialin: “…”
“Alright, leave the medicine with me and get out.” Chen Zirui thought for a moment, then instructed, “If Xie Miaohan comes looking for him, remember to tell me first before letting anyone in. Got it?”
Chen Xialin sniffed out something unusual, his brows revealing excitement.
“Did they fight?”
“No. Don’t be such a gossip.” Chen Zirui ruthlessly closed the door.
Chen Xialin: They definitely fought.
Due to his cold, Gu Huaiye slept deeply, not waking up until the next morning.
He sat up on the sofa, his first question being, “Did Xie Miaohan come looking for me?”
Chen Zirui was facing his computer playing a game. Hearing Gu Huaiye’s voice, he took off his headphones.
“What did you just say?”
Gu Huaiye repeated himself, only to see Chen Zirui shake his head.
He frowned and picked up his phone to check his messages. Not a single one was from Xie Miaohan.
Could it be that he hadn’t returned to the apartment at all, so he didn’t even know Gu Huaiye had stayed out all night?
If he didn’t go back to the apartment, where did he go?
He was fooling around with Wen Xuyue at the company, wasn’t he?
Gu Huaiye immediately stood up and grabbed his jacket from the sofa.
“Where are you going?” Seeing the situation was bad, Chen Zirui quickly walked over. “Going to the company to settle scores with them again?”
Gu Huaiye put on his jacket and said coldly to Chen Zirui, “Move. Don’t block my way.”
“Even if you’re going to settle scores, you have to clean yourself up first.”
Gu Huaiye paused, looking down at his clothes.
He hadn’t gone back all night, so he was still wearing yesterday’s clothes. His shirt was wrinkled, and his hair was a bit messy.
“Forget it. I’m going home.”
“Take a shower here first; I’ll lend you some clothes.” Chen Zirui said, “You’re too emotional right now; it’s irrational. It’ll reach your dad’s ears sooner or later. Take a shower, calm down, and then we’ll think of a strategy.”
Gu Huaiye felt he had a point, so he took Chen Zirui’s clothes and went into the bathroom.
After showering, his mind was indeed a bit clearer.
“I’ve got it!” Chen Zirui said excitedly to Gu Huaiye. “If he dares to cuckold you, then you cuckold him right back! Who’s afraid of who! Let him know you’re not someone to be trifled with.”
Gu Huaiye knocked Chen Zirui on the head. “That’s a terrible idea. I don’t want to touch anyone except Xie Miaohan.”
“It doesn’t have to be real. Just act; make him feel a sense of crisis.”
Gu Huaiye fell silent for a moment, seeming swayed by his words.
“But who can I find right now?” Gu Huaiye looked at the family photo on Chen Zirui’s desk and said, “Ask your brother for help?”
Chen Zirui: “…”
“If you want to turn a fake act into reality, I don’t care. I don’t mind having you as a brother-in-law.”
Gu Huaiye choked for a second, then corrected himself, “I’ll pay someone.”
A few hours later, Gu Huaiye returned to the apartment he shared with Xie Miaohan, his arm around the slender waist of a boy he had hired.
As he expected, Xie Miaohan wasn’t in the apartment.
The bed in the master bedroom was just as messy as when he left yesterday; one of the pillows was still lying on the floor.
With a cold face, he called Xie Miaohan, telling him to come back early to cook and emphasizing that he should buy plenty of groceries.
The clock showed seven. Just as Gu Huaiye’s anger was about to explode, the sound of the keypad code being entered finally rang from outside the door.
Gu Huaiye froze, then couldn’t help but smile.
He signaled the boy with his eyes, making him lean into his embrace.
When Xie Miaohan finished entering the code and opened the door, what greeted his eyes was Gu Huaiye’s triumphant smile and the stranger’s face beside him.
His eyes darkened. Expressionless, he walked in and placed the groceries he was carrying on the dining table.
“What took you so long? Xiao Chen and I are starving to death.”
Gu Huaiye lifted his chin and continued, “Oh right, forgot to introduce you. This is Xiao Chen. I met him at a club. He fits my aesthetic quite well, so I’m keeping him around. You two should get along from now on.”
He thought that after saying this, he would see Xie Miaohan’s anger.
But nothing happened. Xie Miaohan didn’t even glance at them, carrying the items into the kitchen.
A moment later, the sound of washing vegetables could be heard.
Dissatisfied with Xie Miaohan’s reaction, Gu Huaiye pushed Xiao Chen away and walked up behind Xie Miaohan.
He leaned lazily against the doorframe, his gaze provocatively staring at Xie Miaohan’s broad back.
“You’re sleeping in the small room tonight. Xiao Chen and I are taking the master bedroom. After you finish cooking, tidy up the bed; I don’t want him to sleep uncomfortably.”
