Chapter 8: The Surgery Was a Success
When they walked out of the office together, Gu Huaiye straightened his back and lifted his chin, looking for all the world like a victorious rooster.
He wasn’t as tall as Xie Miaohan, so he couldn’t drape his arm around the other man’s shoulders; he had to settle for wrapping an arm around his waist instead.
Especially when they passed by Wen Xuyue, he shot a provocative glance at him, the corners of his mouth curling up in triumph.
See?
No matter how much we argue, we always end up reconciling.
A homewrecker is just a homewrecker; they will never be presentable in public, unlike him, the legitimate spouse.
Gu Huaiye made up his mind: from now on, he would come to the company every day to supervise, leaving them no chance for any ambiguous interactions.
He shouldn’t have made a scene in the first place. He needed to beat a “green tea” bitch at their own game—leaving the green tea with nowhere to go.
Seeing Wen Xuyue’s face drop and his expression turn gloomy, Gu Huaiye felt indescribably satisfied.
That night, Gu Huaiye and Xie Miaohan lay in bed. Gu Huaiye clung to Xie Miaohan tightly, like a piece of sticky candy.
He buried his face in Xie Miaohan’s neck, sniffing here and there, never getting enough.
“Do I have skin hunger or something?” Gu Huaiye lightly bit Xie Miaohan’s ear, exhaling hot breath. “Miaomiao, you smell so good… so nice.”
Xie Miaohan curled his lips, but the smile was quickly suppressed.
He patted Gu Huaiye’s shoulder. “Alright, it’s getting late. Time to sleep.”
“No. I want to be clingy with you a bit longer.”
Gu Huaiye started getting handsy with Xie Miaohan again. This time, however, Xie Miaohan was more cooperative than usual.
Although his handsome face remained icy, at least he didn’t pin Gu Huaiye’s hands down to stop him.
Gu Huaiye touched and kissed until he was satisfied, then rolled over to lie flat, staring at the ceiling.
“Miaomiao.”
Xie Miaohan gave a soft hum of acknowledgement.
“Let’s raise a child.”
He’d heard that once a couple has a child, the spouse starts to settle down and stops looking at other people.
He remembered an older Omega friend who had originally planned to divorce her cheating Alpha husband. But once they had a child, they stopped fighting, and their relationship actually grew stronger.
He didn’t know why, but after he said those words, he felt the temperature beside him plummet.
Confused, he turned his head to look. Xie Miaohan’s expression was calm; it seemed the chill just now was merely his imagination.
“Miaomiao?” Gu Huaiye called out again.
“You know perfectly well I can’t give birth,” Xie Miaohan’s voice was somewhat low.
Gu Huaiye sighed, a trace of regret crossing his face.
“True.”
His sigh reached Xie Miaohan’s ears. From an angle Gu Huaiye couldn’t see, a ruthless glint flashed through Xie Miaohan’s eyes.
“But, we can adopt,” Gu Huaiye added.
The effect on maintaining their relationship might not be as strong, but as long as it made Xie Miaohan settle down, he was willing to adopt one from an orphanage.
The Gu family was so rich that raising a child was nothing to them.
If he wanted to, raising ten would be no problem.
However, Gu Huaiye valued his personal space; one child was already enough for him.
He couldn’t exactly ask Xie Miaohan to quit his job and stay home to take care of the kid.
Then who would run the company?
“Let’s talk about it later,” Xie Miaohan closed his eyes. “Raising a child isn’t a simple matter. We’ll talk about it when you learn how to be responsible.”
Gu Huaiye didn’t agree with Xie Miaohan’s words.
He turned on his side, lying on Xie Miaohan’s chest, and grumbled, “In what way am I not responsible?”
Wasn’t he responsible enough toward Xie Miaohan?
Even though Xie Miaohan had done something so excessive, he hadn’t even considered divorce.
“Do you know how to take care of a child?” Xie Miaohan said. “You can’t even take care of yourself properly, and your temper is terrible. I’m afraid you’d traumatize the child.”
“We can hire a nanny,” Gu Huaiye said nonchalantly. “Just let the nanny help.”
Xie Miaohan lifted his eyelids to look at him. “That right there is a display of irresponsibility.”
Gu Huaiye: “…”
If you don’t want to raise one, just say so.
So many excuses.
Gu Huaiye was quiet for a while, then suddenly grabbed Xie Miaohan’s hand, stroking the scars on it.
“Where is the bracelet I bought you? Why aren’t you wearing it?”
“It broke,” Xie Miaohan lied.
Gu Huaiye didn’t suspect anything. He nodded and continued, “Then I’ll buy you a watch. There’s an auction coming up after a while; I’ll secure the most expensive one for you.”
Xie Miaohan pulled his hand back. “No need.”
“Why no need? That scar is too obvious; it affects your appearance a bit. Wear something to cover it up.”
Xie Miaohan’s eyes turned extremely cold. “You think it’s ugly now? Then why don’t you think about who bestowed this scar upon me?”
Gu Huaiye froze, quickly adding, “I didn’t mean it like that.”
“Don’t just think about spending money all day long. When you throw away a fortune at an auction, do you ever consider how many late nights I have to pull to make up for the money you spent?”
Gu Huaiye protested in a whisper, “It’s not that exaggerated.”
Before they got married, he bought luxury cars and jewelry without blinking an eye, and the Gu family never went bankrupt.
Gu Huaiye felt Xie Miaohan was making a mountain out of a molehill.
But they had just reconciled, and Gu Huaiye didn’t want an argument to send them back to square one.
“Fine, I won’t buy it then. Why get so angry?”
Gu Huaiye turned over in a huff, sleeping with his back to Xie Miaohan.
He didn’t know how much time had passed when the lights went out. A warm chest pressed against his back, and an arm wrapped tightly around his waist.
Gu Huaiye was coaxed back into a good mood. He curled his lips, turned back around, and held Xie Miaohan as he drifted off to sleep.
Gu Huaiye’s breathing became even; he had already entered dreamland.
Xie Miaohan, however, couldn’t sleep no matter what. He closed his eyes, and a scene from five years ago floated into his mind.
At the dining table, Xie Miaohan was putting food into Gu Huaiye’s bowl.
Gu Huaiye rested his chin on one hand, staring intently at Xie Miaohan.
“Miaomiao, my ruts are really uncomfortable… I don’t want to use inhibitors anymore. My dad said using them long-term is bad for my health.”
Xie Miaohan’s gaze darkened. He put down his chopsticks, meeting Gu Huaiye’s eyes with a cold indifference.
“What exactly are you trying to say?”
Gu Huaiye raised an eyebrow and said, “My dad said he’d find me an Omega with compatible pheromones. It would only be for marking during ruts; I wouldn’t have any emotional involvement with him in daily life.”
Xie Miaohan’s breathing grew heavier, veins popping on his forehead.
He looked at the face across from him, a sense of desolation surging in his heart. He didn’t know whether he should hate him or be disgusted by him.
After a long silence, Xie Miaohan picked up his chopsticks again. “Whatever you want.”
The smile on Gu Huaiye’s face vanished. He picked up his phone and left the apartment.
A few days later, Gu Huaiye came to his office and tossed an agreement at him.
It was essentially asking him to consent to his partner having their own Omega.
Xie Miaohan didn’t sign. He stared at the agreement, somewhat dazed.
Gu Huaiye lost patience. He called Chen Zirui, arranged a place to drink, and then left.
Xie Miaohan picked up his fountain pen, wanting to sign, but he couldn’t bring himself to put the pen to paper.
He put down the pen, opened his computer, and clicked on a website.
It contained information regarding artificial gland surgery.
He registered a new email address and, anonymously, forwarded the website to Gu Huaiye.
The surgery was a success.
He was fitted with an artificial gland, and the pheromones were chosen by Gu Huaiye.
Soon after, he was marked by Gu Huaiye.
And Gu Huaiye never mentioned finding another Omega to him again.
