Chapter 9: Have You Made Enough of a Scene?
Gu Huaiye had been coming to the Gu Group to supervise work every single day for a solid month.
At the start, he was quite enthusiastic, but as time dragged on, Gu Huaiye started getting restless.
Every day, he lay on the sofa in Xie Miaohan’s office, gaming online with Chen Zirui.
No matter how fun a game was, playing it non-stop eventually got old.
Tired of playing, Gu Huaiye tossed his phone onto the sofa and sat up, looking across at Xie Miaohan.
Sometimes, he actually admired Xie Miaohan.
How could he manage to sit at that desk day in and day out without feeling the slightest bit of boredom?
Xie Miaohan noticed his gaze. Without looking up, he asked in a flat tone, “Do you want some snacks?”
Gu Huaiye rolled his eyes. “In your heart, is all I know how to do is eat, drink, and have fun?”
Xie Miaohan didn’t answer, which was a clear enough response: he defaulted to ‘yes’.
Gu Huaiye: “…”
He stood up and walked over to Xie Miaohan. Just like usual, he sat right on the other man’s lap.
Xie Miaohan put down his fountain pen and steadied him by the waist.
“What’s wrong?” Xie Miaohan asked.
“I’m so bored. How about we go out on a date?”
“I still have work to finish.”
Gu Huaiye tugged at Xie Miaohan’s tie, softening his tone. “Even an ox plowing the fields needs a break to catch its breath. You should relax occasionally too. Since we got married, we haven’t been on a single date.”
“Next time,” Xie Miaohan rejected him without hesitation. “There are a lot of things going on at the company recently.”
Gu Huaiye’s eyes revealed his impatience. “What day isn’t busy? Is work more important than me in your heart?”
“If you insist on comparing… if the company went bankrupt, the person who wouldn’t be able to stand it the most would be you.”
Gu Huaiye scoffed. “How could the Gu family possibly go bankrupt?”
After those words fell, Xie Miaohan went strangely quiet, neither refuting nor agreeing.
This made Gu Huaiye feel a bit panicked, a very bad premonition rising in his heart.
“When I’m less busy, I’ll go with you.” Xie Miaohan patted his waist, signaling him to get down.
But Gu Huaiye wasn’t satisfied with that answer.
If he didn’t want to go out on a date, then they would just have to play here.
Gu Huaiye reached out to touch the back of Xie Miaohan’s neck, tentatively releasing his pheromones.
Xie Miaohan’s expression changed, his tone tinged with anger. “Gu Huaiye, if you want to stay in my office, you must keep your damn pheromones to yourself!”
“The Gu Group is mine, so naturally, your office is also mine. I can come and go as I please; why should I ask for your consent?”
Gu Huaiye revealed his canine teeth, leaning in close to Xie Miaohan’s slender, fair neck.
“Don’t you like my pheromones?”
Just as Xie Miaohan was about to refuse, a stinging pain came from his neck. He let out a muffled sound, endured the influence of the other’s pheromones, and shoved Gu Huaiye away with force.
“Have you made enough of a scene?!”
Caught off guard by the shove, Gu Huaiye’s spine slammed against the cold, hard desk. The pain twisted his features.
“You’re my wife; I can’t even kiss you?”
Xie Miaohan covered his neck, his breathing heavy.
“Not everyone is like you, ruled by desire. You’re no different from a beast!”
Gu Huaiye froze.
He hadn’t expected Xie Miaohan to say such a thing about him.
“Yeah, right, in your heart Wen Xuyue is the best!” Gu Huaiye felt acid rising in his chest as he mocked, “He comes into the office several times a day. If it’s not pouring tea, it’s delivering documents—finding a pile of excuses just to see you.”
Why does he refuse when I suggest a date?
Xie Miaohan still hadn’t explained where he and Wen Xuyue went that day under the shared umbrella.
They must have gone on a date.
Wen Xuyue was just an accountant here; he couldn’t possibly be tagging along for business entertainments.
He couldn’t think of a more reasonable explanation than a date.
Since getting together with Xie Miaohan, the number of dates they’d been on could be counted on two hands.
To say he didn’t feel aggrieved would be a lie.
He knew he had forced this relationship, but they had been married for ten years—even a stone should have been warmed up by now.
Xie Miaohan suddenly stood up, grabbed his suit jacket from the coat rack, and put it on briskly.
“Where are you going?”
Xie Miaohan didn’t even look at him, answering coldly, “Business engagement.”
Gu Huaiye hurriedly followed. “I’ll go with you.”
Xie Miaohan stopped in his tracks, sweeping a sharp gaze up and down Gu Huaiye’s figure.
“Young Master Gu, aside from eating, drinking, and playing around, what can you actually do? You know absolutely nothing about business. What use are you at a business engagement? You’ll only hold me back. You’re better off staying right here.”
Xie Miaohan had never spoken to him so harshly before. Gu Huaiye’s mind went blank, and he stood there foolishly.
By the time he snapped back to reality, Xie Miaohan was already gone.
