Chapter 13: He Really Hated It So Much!
Gu Huaiye’s mind went completely blank.
He sat on the floor, scrolling through his phone, mechanically staring at the news and trending searches regarding the Gu Group.
He couldn’t absorb a single word; his mind kept replaying his past with Xie Miaohan.
Where exactly had things gone wrong?
Was it that he shouldn’t have forced Xie Miaohan into marriage? Or that he shouldn’t have taken Xie Miaohan for the surgery?
No.
Maybe he shouldn’t have picked Xie Miaohan to give him that campus tour in the first place.
If it weren’t for that love at first sight, he and Xie Miaohan wouldn’t have ended up in this state.
He didn’t know how much time had passed before a knock sounded at the door.
Guessing it must be Xie Miaohan, Gu Huaiye got up to open it.
Xie Miaohan was wearing a white shirt and gold-rimmed glasses, looking every bit the refined and gentle gentleman.
Gu Huaiye faltered for a moment.
He didn’t just love Xie Miaohan’s face; he loved the aura the man carried.
Cold, aloof, and proud.
He had chosen to marry such a man, so he should have been mentally prepared to endure the silent treatment.
It was his own fault for being so naive.
He had deluded himself into thinking he had the capability to snap off this cold, solitary rose, pluck out all its thorns, and hold it firmly in his hand.
Gu Huaiye averted his gaze, refusing to look at Xie Miaohan’s face.
He stepped aside, gesturing for Xie Miaohan to come in.
“Did you bring the papers?”
Gu Huaiye looked at Xie Miaohan’s hands. Seeing they were empty, he couldn’t help but frown.
“I know you value profit above all else, and you probably made a lot from selling the shares. Now that the Gu family has fallen, you must be guarding against me, afraid I’ll take your assets.”
Gu Huaiye took a deep breath, calming his emotions as best he could to prevent his voice from betraying any wavering.
“I gave you those shares. Even if you cashed them out, I won’t ask for them back. If you’re afraid I’ll sue you for the money, just draft an agreement. I’m willing to leave with nothing.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, he noticed Xie Miaohan’s expression turn a few degrees colder, as if angry at what he had said.
Gu Huaiye curled his lips in a self-deprecating smile.
Don’t flatter yourself, he thought. He probably can’t wait to divorce immediately.
“If you want to go straight to get the divorce certificate, I’m fine with that too. I just wanted to advise you to sign an agreement, just to avoid any future trouble.”
Gu Huaiye couldn’t take it anymore.
He just wanted a clean break, a quick divorce, and then to never have anything to do with Xie Miaohan again.
The Gu family had fallen, but he believed he could make a comeback.
He was surrounded by wealthy young masters he was on good terms with; surely one of them would be willing to help him.
Gu Huaiye’s father was in poor health, often lying in his hospital bed in a deep stupor. He likely didn’t know about the Gu Group’s bankruptcy yet.
He planned to rush to the hospital immediately after the divorce to remove his father’s phone and the TV from the ward.
Gu Huaiye found a spot to sit and looked up at Xie Miaohan.
“I can wait for you. Go get the agreement done and come back.”
Xie Miaohan scanned the room, his gaze landing on the double bed.
“Who did you sleep with last night?”
“Why are you asking that?” Gu Huaiye was getting irritable, raising his voice. “Just hurry up and get the divorce so we don’t owe each other anything.”
Xie Miaohan stood motionless, staring at Gu Huaiye with a gloomy, cold gaze.
Gu Huaiye was anxious to get to the hospital and had no patience to keep arguing with him.
Seeing him remain indifferent, he couldn’t help but mock, “Why are you just standing there? Isn’t this the result you wanted? Don’t tell me that now that I’m bankrupt, you’re suddenly reluctant to let go?”
“Did you sleep with Chen Zirui last night?”
Upon hearing this, Gu Huaiye first looked incredulous, then his face flushed with a mix of shame and anger.
“Are you out of your f*cking mind?!” Gu Huaiye stood up and grabbed Xie Miaohan’s collar. “Not everyone is as dirty as you. If you dare smear my friend’s name again, Laozi will definitely beat you up before the divorce.”
Hearing “divorce” in every other sentence made Xie Miaohan’s expression turn even darker.
He let Gu Huaiye hold his collar, his jawline tight. Even though he was now an artificial Omega, his imposing aura didn’t lose out to Gu Huaiye’s in the slightest.
“Is it not dirty?” Xie Miaohan said. “You brought someone to our bedroom to mess around. If that doesn’t count as dirty, then what does?”
These words rendered Gu Huaiye speechless.
He couldn’t exactly say it was all an act.
But they were about to divorce now. If he admitted he just paid someone to put on a show to try and make Xie Miaohan stay, he would lose so much face.
Forget it. He could voluntarily exit this relationship, but he still had his pride; he couldn’t lose that.
“So what?” Gu Huaiye raised his chin, refusing to show weakness. “You cheated first—no, wait, it was you who refused to cut ties with Wen Xuyue. Was I wrong to find someone to replace you in my bed?”
Xie Miaohan suddenly grabbed Gu Huaiye’s wrist and dragged him toward the door.
“Where are we going?”
“Home.”
Gu Huaiye tried to break free from Xie Miaohan’s grip but found the man’s strength astonishing; he couldn’t break away at all.
“Let go of me!”
Xie Miaohan ignored him, dragging him to the doorway.
In a fit of exasperation, Gu Huaiye resorted to a despicable tactic: he released his pheromones, intending to use them to suppress Xie Miaohan.
His physical strength might not match Xie Miaohan’s, but his Alpha pheromones would work.
Sure enough, Xie Miaohan’s body began to go limp, and he glared ferociously at Gu Huaiye.
“Gu Huaiye!” Anger finally broke through Xie Miaohan’s cold mask. He gritted his teeth. “Pull your pheromones back.”
“I told you. We divorce now, and we don’t owe each other anything.”
Xie Miaohan panted heavily, his answer completely exceeding Gu Huaiye’s expectations.
“I won’t divorce.”
Gu Huaiye’s pupils trembled slightly. The pheromones around him dissipated a little as he stared at the man before him with a strange look.
“Why?”
“No reason.”
Xie Miaohan, affected by Gu Huaiye’s pheromones, had a flush rising on his cheeks.
A moment later, the air was permeated with the faint scent of wisteria flowers.
Gu Huaiye knitted his brows and couldn’t help but wrinkle his nose.
This subtle little movement did not escape Xie Miaohan’s eyes.
A ruthless glint surfaced in Xie Miaohan’s light-colored pupils. Catching Gu Huaiye off guard, he lunged forward and bit down on the back of Gu Huaiye’s neck.
Gu Huaiye let out a muffled grunt of pain and shoved Xie Miaohan away with force.
“Are you sick in the head? Why bite me?! You aren’t an Alpha anymore; you can’t mark me at all.”
At these words, Xie Miaohan’s gaze turned sinister.
Yes, he was no longer an Alpha.
He was an Omega, left to be slaughtered by others.
He didn’t even count as a real Omega. His gland was artificial, and his pheromones were concocted on a whim by Gu Huaiye.
He was a monster now!
A pathetic wretch, lesser than even a Beta!
Even if he had brought down the Gu family, it couldn’t change the fact that he could not control Gu Huaiye.
The hate!
He really hated it so much!
