Chapter 28: Otherwise, I’ll make you bury him with him.
Huo Qingyan’s steps, which had been directed towards the outside, stopped. His voice tightened: “Lin Siyue? What’s wrong? What happened?”
He usually spoke slowly and calmly, but now he was asking Lin Siyue extremely quickly. This showed that he was truly worried and anxious.
Jiang Su stood by the refrigerator without moving, waiting for Huo Qingyan to finish the call.
“It’s Mr. Huo’s men, they’re banging on the door outside!” Lin Siyue’s voice trembled violently.
Mr. Huo?
Huo Qingyan’s father?
What was he doing looking for Lin Siyue?
Huo Qingyan’s face changed: “Why did Huo Zhenheng go to you? What did he want?”
“Mr. Huo… he… it seems he found out that you took care of me when I was in the hospital… Jiang Su always knew you brought me breakfast and took care of me… Qingyan… ah!”
Lin Siyue was clearly flustered and incoherent, speaking in a jumbled way, as if he were both terrified and hinting at something.
At the end, after a startled cry, the call was disconnected.
The room fell instantly silent.
Before Jiang Su could understand the meaning of Lin Siyue’s words, Huo Qingyan turned around.
His gaze towards Jiang Su was darker than ever before, leaving Jiang Su feeling like he was standing on the brink of an abyss.
Jiang Su had never seen Huo Qingyan so terrifying; he instinctively took a step back.
“What did you tell Huo Zhenheng?” Huo Qingyan approached Jiang Su step by step.
Jiang Su shook his head, murmuring, “I didn’t…”
Huo Qingyan’s voice was cold as ice: “You knew I was taking care of Lin Siyue in the hospital, bringing him breakfast?”
Jiang Su dared not lie: “Yes.”
He had backed himself against the wall, with nowhere left to retreat.
Huo Qingyan’s eyes were filled with rage, his whole body radiating a chilling and terrifying aura.
Jiang Su’s face turned pale: “Huo Qingyan… uh…”
Before he could finish, Huo Qingyan grabbed his neck, cutting off his words.
A bloodthirsty smile curled Huo Qingyan’s lips: “No wonder you’ve been so well-behaved recently. So you used Huo Zhenheng as a helper…”
Jiang Su’s neck was squeezed to the point of losing sensation, making it impossible for him to speak. He could only shake his head repeatedly, unable to defend himself.
“I almost fell for your trick,” Huo Qingyan’s grip continued to tighten.
Jiang Su’s face turned blue, his head spinning dizzily from lack of breath; he couldn’t even hear what Huo Qingyan was saying anymore.
Finally, Huo Qingyan noticed that Jiang Su had no strength left to struggle, and only then, with a cold face, did he release him.
As soon as Huo Qingyan let go, Jiang Su collapsed to the floor, unable to move, only instinctively gasping for breath.
Huo Qingyan looked down at him from above, his handsome face contorted in a cold and fierce expression.
His words were cruel: “You better pray that Lin Siyue is alright, otherwise, I’ll make you bury him with him!”
Jiang Su moved his lips, but found he couldn’t make a sound. He could only watch helplessly as Huo Qingyan walked away, his back cold and resolute.
Soon, the sound of a car engine starting came from outside.
Jiang Su lay on the cold floor, staring blankly at the ceiling.
He didn’t understand. Just now, hadn’t he and Huo Qingyan been discussing what to cook for dinner? How did it suddenly turn into this?
What did Lin Siyue’s words mean?
He did know that Huo Qingyan had been taking care of Lin Siyue for a while, bringing him breakfast. He only knew; was this also his fault?
He understood even less of what Huo Qingyan had said.
Wasn’t his being well-behaved what Huo Qingyan wanted? Why did he say that he had used Mr. Huo as a helper?
Why could Huo Qingyan believe every word Lin Siyue said, but couldn’t give him a chance to explain? He was the one closest to Huo Qingyan.
After a long time…
Jiang Su finally recovered.
He propped himself up and slowly got up from the floor.
The ingredients he had taken from the refrigerator were scattered on the floor, the refrigerator door still ajar, the alarm sounding repeatedly. During the struggle, his phone had also fallen out of his pocket.
Jiang Su closed the refrigerator door and picked up his phone.
The phone screen was shattered, cracked in several places, and covered with dust, but it still worked.
Just as Jiang Su was gently wiping the dust off the screen, the phone lit up and rang.
The caller ID showed: Grandma.
Jiang Su, who had endured near suffocation from Huo Qingyan’s grip, suddenly felt his eyes welling up.
He wiped his eyes forcefully before answering Grandma’s call.
When he spoke, his voice was full of forced cheerfulness: “Grandma.”
A director he’d worked with before had said he was born to be an actor. So, when he really needed to deceive someone, he could do it easily.
Grandma didn’t detect his forced cheer, and said cheerfully, “The scenery there is beautiful, isn’t it? Look at how happy you are…”
“It’s quite beautiful,” Jiang Su walked outside, his tone filled with a smile, “I’ll bring you here next time.”
Grandma said, “I’m not coming. It’s too cold.”
Jiang Su: “It won’t be cold, there are hot springs.”
“Still not coming. Alright, have fun with Qingyan, but remember to eat and sleep well…”
Jiang Su had become famous as soon as he debuted, and his schedule was packed, often unable to eat on time or sleep properly. That’s why Grandma always told him this.
“I know, Grandma, I will definitely eat and sleep well.”
“Then I won’t disturb you and Qingyan…”
After hanging up the phone, the smile on Jiang Su’s face instantly disappeared.
The hot spring resort staff had been sent away by Huo Qingyan, and Huo Qingyan had left. Now, in this huge hot spring resort, there was only Jiang Su.
The snow outside was getting heavier and heavier. Huo Qingyan had driven away, and he couldn’t go down the mountain now.
He could contact his family to pick him up, but that would let them know that he and Huo Qingyan had fought again. Worse, Grandma might find out.
After thinking it over, Jiang Su decided to stay on the mountain for one night and go back down tomorrow. Besides, he needed time to sort things out between him and Huo Qingyan.
…
After dinner, Jiang Su went to soak in the hot spring alone, then returned to his room to sleep. Grandma said to eat and sleep well.
Perhaps because he wasn’t used to the bed, Jiang Su slept very lightly, waking up every now and then.
In the middle of the night, he woke up cold.
Jiang Su reached out to turn on the bedside lamp, but found it wouldn’t light.
No wonder it was cold; the power had gone out, and the heating had stopped working.
Jiang Su felt for his phone and saw it was only one o’clock in the morning.
The signal was also weak.
It was too cold; he couldn’t sleep, so he sat up in bed, hugging his blanket.
Not long after, the phone on his bedside table suddenly vibrated.
The sudden vibration startled Jiang Su.
