Chapter 14: Their First Meeting
Gu Huaiye was stung by the resentment in Xie Miaohan’s eyes.
He couldn’t understand what Xie Miaohan was trying to achieve with this stunt. He had already brought up divorce; wasn’t that enough?
“Forget it, I have nothing to say to you. Let the lawyers handle it when the time comes.”
Gu Huaiye bent down to change his shoes.
Suddenly, he was hugged from behind. Gu Huaiye’s movements paused, his entire body stiffening.
Xie Miaohan was panting heavily, his body scorching hot. The scent of Wisteria grew increasingly intense, nearly masking the pheromones Gu Huaiye had released earlier, enveloping him completely.
It even carried a trace of seduction.
Perhaps because they had been sleeping in separate beds for so long, Gu Huaiye had forgotten that Xie Miaohan’s susceptibility period was approaching.
Xie Miaohan had only become an Omega through surgery; his pheromones weren’t compatible with Gu Huaiye’s and had absolutely no effect on him.
It was quite unfair, really.
If Gu Huaiye wanted to go to bed, he only needed to release his pheromones to control Xie Miaohan and get his way.
Conversely, Xie Miaohan couldn’t manipulate Gu Huaiye. He either had to use inhibitors or actively seduce Gu Huaiye, begging for a temporary mark.
But Xie Miaohan would never bow his head and beg.
He would rather inject multiple shots of inhibitors a day, even to the point of being hospitalized, than act like a plaything and plead for Gu Huaiye’s pity.
“Where are your inhibitors?” Gu Huaiye tried to push Xie Miaohan away, but the other man held him too tightly, as if wanting to merge him into his own flesh and blood, never to be separated for a lifetime.
Of course, Gu Huaiye believed this was merely the influence of the pheromones, not that Xie Miaohan truly couldn’t leave him.
Once he recovered, Xie Miaohan would return to his cold and arrogant self.
It was like this every time.
He never showed even a shred of dependence on him when he was sober.
“Let go of me first,” Gu Huaiye said, trying to keep his voice as calm as possible. “If you didn’t bring any, I’ll go buy some for you right now.”
After all, he was the one who had affected Xie Miaohan first. He knew that Omegas were sensitive and fragile during their susceptibility periods, so he couldn’t bring himself to push the other man away with real force.
But they were about to divorce; he shouldn’t take advantage of someone in a precarious position by temporarily marking Xie Miaohan again.
“Xie Miaohan, let go first. If you don’t let go, I can’t go buy inhibitors for you, and you’ll just have to keep suffering,” Gu Huaiye explained patiently.
“Why don’t you call me Miaomiao?”
Gu Huaiye almost thought he had misheard. He couldn’t help but ask, “What? What did you just say?”
That fragile tone vanished, and Xie Miaohan’s voice became flat again.
“If you leave here, my pheromones will attract people in the hotel. Do you want to abandon me to face the danger alone?”
Gu Huaiye frowned tightly. “It won’t come to that. I’ll come back up very quickly.”
“Is running away the only thing you know how to do when you cause trouble?” Xie Miaohan’s tone suddenly turned cold and heavy, answering through gritted teeth. “You’ve marked me so many times already; what does one more time matter? I told you to retract your pheromones, but you refused to listen to me. Are you only satisfied if I’m suffering?”
Gu Huaiye was dumbfounded.
Wasn’t he in his susceptibility period? How could he still argue so effectively?
It was a waste for him not to be a lawyer.
Perhaps because they were pressed so close together, Gu Huaiye felt that he was being affected too. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his heart pounded violently.
Forget it. Let’s just treat this as a breakup fling.
Having convinced himself, Gu Huaiye stopped struggling. He turned around and wrapped his arms around Xie Miaohan’s waist.
He placed his other hand on the back of Xie Miaohan’s neck, stroking it gently, then lifted his chin and leaned in, preparing to give him a temporary mark.
But Xie Miaohan suddenly kissed him. His lips were warm, lingering and entwined.
For the first time, they didn’t fight.
With tacit understanding, they fell onto the bed. Gu Huaiye pressed the other man down, staring into Xie Miaohan’s eyes, which were as beautiful and captivating as gemstones.
He couldn’t help but lower his head and kiss the tear mole beneath Xie Miaohan’s eye.
Xie Miaohan let out a soft hum and cooperated by wrapping his arms around Gu Huaiye’s shoulders.
In truth, Gu Huaiye wasn’t obsessed with the act itself.
But only in bed would the look in Xie Miaohan’s eyes cease to be cold and distant; occasionally, it would even be filled with affection, tender as water.
Gu Huaiye wanted to see this version of Xie Miaohan every day, which was why he had brazenly forced the other man time and time again.
Xie Miaohan’s eyes were hazy, his red lips slightly parted.
“Call me Miaomiao.”
This was the first time Xie Miaohan had made such a request.
Usually, whenever Gu Huaiye called him “Miaomiao,” he would be met with an eye-roll.
Gu Huaiye hadn’t forgotten what Xie Miaohan had done, nor had he forgotten that their marriage was about to end.
Acting out of spite, he turned his face away, ignoring Xie Miaohan’s request.
He would not call him Miaomiao ever again.
By the time they finished, the sky had already turned dark.
Even if they wanted to register for divorce, it was too late.
Gu Huaiye followed Xie Miaohan back to the apartment; he had only brought his phone when he came out, so staying at a hotel would be inconvenient.
He had already called the caretaker looking after Father Gu to remove the phone and television.
Although this was merely treating the symptoms rather than the root cause, at least in the short term, Father Gu wouldn’t discover the company’s bankruptcy. This would prevent him from getting agitated and worsening his condition.
Gu Huaiye had it all planned out. After the divorce, he would liquidate his assets and pay off some debts.
However, he would try his best to keep the villa in the Yanyu District.
That was the house his parents had bought when they got married, and it was where he had grown up.
After getting married, he had bought the apartment they lived in now so Xie Miaohan would feel more at ease, allowing them to live in their own little world.
Later, when Father Gu fell ill and was hospitalized, the villa sat empty, with people sent to maintain it regularly.
As soon as Gu Huaiye returned to the apartment, he went straight to the walk-in closet, dragged out his LV suitcase, and started packing the clothes he wore most often.
Since they were getting divorced, living together was definitely inappropriate.
Until things stabilized completely, he would stay at a hotel temporarily.
Gu Huaiye tossed two jackets into the suitcase when he heard footsteps behind him.
He didn’t turn around and continued folding his clothes.
“We probably won’t be able to keep this apartment, but you have more money than me right now. Buying a new place shouldn’t be difficult for you.”
Silence followed his words; he couldn’t hear Xie Miaohan’s response.
Gu Huaiye pursed his lips, then curled them into a smile, putting on an expression of nonchalance.
“I don’t resent you for bringing down my company. This is what I owe you, after all. When I disregarded your will and forced you to marry me back then, I should have anticipated a result like this.”
Gu Huaiye picked up a pink shirt and suddenly remembered it was something Xie Miaohan had bought for him.
It was a gift for their first wedding anniversary.
After receiving it, Gu Huaiye couldn’t bear to wear it, keeping it hanging in the closet. Occasionally, when he missed Xie Miaohan terribly, he would come over and touch it.
Since he was going to let go completely, Gu Huaiye certainly wouldn’t take anything related to Xie Miaohan with him.
He stroked the collar reluctantly, then set it aside.
“Don’t worry about me, either. I’m not someone who’s easily defeated. I’ll make a comeback sooner or later.”
Gu Huaiye wasn’t lying.
He was indeed a very optimistic person.
He couldn’t accept it at first, but now he had made peace with it.
Bankruptcy was just bankruptcy; some people didn’t even have the opportunity to go bankrupt.
He could consider it as enriching his life experience.
Bankruptcy was great.
Gu Huaiye had always disliked being called an idle fourth-generation rich kid.
Now, he was going to start putting in the effort to change his destiny and become a self-made millionaire.
Just thinking about it felt inspiring.
Seeing that Xie Miaohan hadn’t said a word, Gu Huaiye couldn’t help but turn his head to look at him.
“Why are you standing there? Did you need to get something?”
Xie Miaohan didn’t answer him, staring entranced at the suitcase.
His thoughts drifted back to the day they first met.
Xie Miaohan was a member of the Student Council and had been assigned to the school gate to welcome new students.
Gu Huaiye was just like his fiery personality.
The moment he appeared, he attracted everyone’s attention, including Xie Miaohan’s.
Gu Huaiye stepped out of a Lamborghini, wearing a clean, crisp white shirt and sporting flashy, platinum-blonde hair. His bone structure was exquisite, and his eyes seemed to hold the starry sky, making people wish they could drown in his gaze.
Thinking Gu Huaiye was an Omega, people flocked to hit on him.
Upon learning he was an Alpha, the Alphas who had intended to court him were heartbroken and regretful, and most of the crowd dispersed.
Xie Miaohan stared at Gu Huaiye’s profile.
As if possessed by some unseen force, he walked over, squeezed through the crowd, and stopped in front of Gu Huaiye.
“Hello, my name is Xie Miaohan.”
Xie Miaohan swallowed nervously and revealed a gentle, warm smile.
“Let me show you around.”
