You Claimed You Didn’t Love Me, So Why Cry Now That I’m Engaged? Chapter 15

Chapter 15: Did You Ever Love Me?

Gu Huaiye had finished packing one suitcase.

He had too many belongings to pack all at once, so he planned to move them in several trips.

Buying everything new was out of the question; no matter how troublesome it was, he had to move the things that belonged to him.

He was bankrupt now; he certainly couldn’t buy clothes recklessly anymore. He had to save where he could.

Gu Huaiye closed the suitcase, preparing to drag it out of the walk-in closet.

Xie Miaohan was blocking the doorway. Unable to move the suitcase out, Gu Huaiye had no choice but to look up at him.

“Let me through.”

Xie Miaohan remained indifferent, his gaze locked tightly on Gu Huaiye.

After a few attempts, even Gu Huaiye’s good temper was worn thin.

He let go of the suitcase, crossed his arms, and stared at Xie Miaohan with a displeased expression.

“What exactly do you want? You wouldn’t cooperate with the divorce, and now what are you trying to do?”

“Are you hungry? Do you want to eat dinner?” Xie Miaohan answered a question with a question.

Gu Huaiye felt a sense of powerlessness, like punching cotton.

“Not eating.”

Xie Miaohan raised his arm to check his watch. “It’s already past nine. It’s not safe to go out this late.”

Gu Huaiye laughed. “When I drank all night before, I didn’t see you reminding me it wasn’t safe.”

Besides, how could an Alpha like him be unsafe?

It’s not like an Omega would latch onto him begging for a mark.

“Move out of the way.” Gu Huaiye grabbed the suitcase again. “I don’t have time to mess around with you. I have a lot to do tomorrow and need to rest early.”

Seeing Xie Miaohan refuse to move, Gu Huaiye deliberately bumped Xie Miaohan’s leg with the suitcase.

Xie Miaohan frowned, but still stood motionless.

Cao!” Gu Huaiye was thoroughly angered. He kicked the suitcase aside. “Don’t force me to use pheromones to suppress you.”

Xie Miaohan’s eyes finally showed some fluctuation. “Do you really think getting a divorce right now is rational?”

“What?” Gu Huaiye’s face didn’t look good. “Rational or not, what business is it of yours? Weren’t you waiting for me to bring up divorce yourself? Why act like a good person now?”

“I didn’t bring it up.”

Gu Huaiye: “…” Was this guy f*cked silly?

“From beginning to end, you are the only one mentioning divorce.”

Xie Miaohan was expressionless, every word stabbing right into Gu Huaiye’s heart. “Do you know how much money the Gu Group has to pay in compensation after the bankruptcy? Even if you pay off the debts, how will you live in the future? You only know how to spend money; you don’t know how to earn it at all. You’ve lived in an ivory tower your whole life; you can’t even take care of yourself.”

Gu Huaiye turned pale at the words, but Xie Miaohan continued to be aggressive.

“Make a comeback?” Xie Miaohan sneered. “Don’t joke. With such a huge scandal in the Gu family, who would dare invest in your startup? They’d wish to cut ties with you to protect their own wallets.”

“Stop talking…” Gu Huaiye couldn’t listen anymore, his voice trembling. “Shut your mouth, Laozi tells you.”

“I assume you aren’t clear on exactly how much your father’s daily medical expenses are either. Hospitalization fees, medicine costs, caretaker fees, and so on—can you afford them right now? If you want to leave with nothing, you have to consider if you have the ability to survive with nothing!”

Gu Huaiye was flushed red, his chest heaving violently.

He raised his hand and slapped Xie Miaohan across the face.

Xie Miaohan’s skin was very fair; the slap immediately left a red mark on his left cheek.

His eyes darkened, and he curved his lips into a smile, possessing a strange sense of madness.

“If I were you, I wouldn’t choose divorce. I’d stay home obediently and continue being a canary who simply opens its mouth to be fed and stretches out its hand to be dressed.”

Gu Huaiye’s rims of his eyes turned slightly red as he said angrily, “Who caused all this? You still dare mention the bankruptcy to me?”

Matters having reached this point, Xie Miaohan didn’t want to pretend anymore, nor did he bother denying that he crushed the Gu Group.

He parted his thin lips, his voice cold to the extreme.

“Yes, I caused it.” He paused, then said, “But you brought it all on yourself.”

Gu Huaiye’s pupils constricted, looking at Xie Miaohan in disbelief.

He finally admitted it.

Even though he was mentally prepared, hearing Xie Miaohan admit it personally still made Gu Huaiye’s heart ache as if cut by a knife.

“So?” Gu Huaiye lowered his eyes, long lashes covering the sadness in them. “You went through all this trouble just to bankrupt me, not to divorce me?”

“En, there’s no need for a divorce,” Xie Miaohan said. “I’m not an Alpha right now; I need your pheromones. You must mark me every month to reduce the torture of my susceptibility periods. As compensation, I am willing to support you and your father.”

See, this is the real Xie Miaohan.

Cruel and indifferent.

After he went completely bankrupt, the mask came off. Even his words carried a tone of charity, as if granting a huge favor.

He thought Xie Miaohan refusing divorce meant he still had a shred of reluctance to let him go.

Now it seemed he just regarded him as a tool.

“What about Wen Xuyue?” Gu Huaiye asked softly. “You don’t plan to give him a status?”

Xie Miaohan’s face visibly darkened. “He will spend the rest of his life in prison.”

Gu Huaiye was stunned.

“You don’t plan to save him?”

“Why should I save him?” Xie Miaohan asked back.

“Could it be that you deliberately used him just to get revenge on the Gu family?”

Gu Huaiye couldn’t see through the person beside his pillow at all. He felt he was terrifying. How could he be unscrupulous to this extent?

“You sold your body just for revenge? Don’t you feel disgusted?”

Xie Miaohan’s brows were dyed with a sinister gloom, emitting a terrifying pressure.

“Have you investigated?” Xie Miaohan mocked. “You keep claiming how much you like me, yet you weren’t even willing to do an investigation. It’s all your imagination, always thinking I had something with him?”

“Isn’t that the case?”

Xie Miaohan stared at him expressionlessly.

Gu Huaiye sucked in a breath, not knowing what to believe anymore.

“Then why didn’t you deny it?”

“You wouldn’t have believed it.”

Xie Miaohan closed his eyes, his voice carrying a trace of imperceptible brokenness.

“You only find various reasons to torture me. Whether at home or at the company, you always do whatever you want and never consider my feelings.”

Gu Huaiye felt ashamed by his words.

He indeed hadn’t treated Xie Miaohan too well sometimes, but Xie Miaohan was always cold to him, ignoring his existence.

Gu Huaiye wanted Xie Miaohan’s attention too much, so he couldn’t help but act willfully, resulting in both of them getting hurt.

Gu Huaiye clenched his fist and asked the question suppressed in his heart for ten years to Xie Miaohan’s face.

“Did you ever love me?”

Xie Miaohan looked down at Gu Huaiye.

Time passed slowly, long enough for Gu Huaiye to think he wouldn’t get an answer.

Just as he was about to give up on the question, he heard Xie Miaohan say: “Only hate.”
