Part 3
Inside the room, the discussion continued.
“I tried to perform a divination…” Mr. Fu said.
The eyes of the other three people in the room instantly fell on him, full of expectation.
Mr. Fu shook his head slightly. “The future is blank. I can’t see anything.”
This wasn’t good news, but it wasn’t bad news either. At least it was better than foreseeing the worst possible outcome directly.
Still, the Tang family’s expressions grew grim.
“Changning, do you have any suggestions regarding this?” Tang Mingquan asked in a deep voice.
Mr. Fu looked at him deeply, remaining silent for a long time before asking, “Do you really want to hear it?”
At this, the Tang familyâs hearts sank.
Tang Mingquan pondered for a long time before gritting his teeth and nodding. “Speak.”
“Prepare for the worst. End all of this directly. Call the media, give the instructions, and release the news overnight saying that the Tang family accidentally swapped children with another family back then, and now the real Miss Tang has been found.”
“At the same time, take all the evidence and convince Yu’s parents and Yu Zhen. At daybreak, under the witness of countless eyes, send Tang Yue away and bring Yu Zhen back.”
“Let everything return to its rightful place.”
“Let enough people believe that this really was just a coincidence.”
“No!” Tang Mingquan refused almost the instant Mr. Fu finished speaking.
He quickly realized his reaction was inappropriate. “Changning, I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just… you know I’m negotiating a huge project with the higher-ups recently. If we nail it, the Tang family can reach a new level.”
“Although the deal is mostly done, the Tang family isn’t the only choice. If something goes wrong…”
He looked at Mr. Fu.
Mr. Fu looked back at him.
After a long gaze, Tang Mingquan was the first to look away. “This matter doesn’t just concern me. Everyone in the group has put a lot of effort into this.”
“I know. Stopping now would be like breaking your own wings.”
Tang Mingquan looked at Mr. Fu instantly.
But Mr. Fu continued, “But have you considered the consequences if something goes wrong with Tang Yue and the Yu family?”
Tang Mingquanâs face instantly became extremely ugly.
“Mingquan, for the Tang family to reach this point, it was already forced. Listen to my advice: stop now. At least you can keep what you have.” Mr. Fu looked into his eyes. These words were both advice and a warning.
Tang Mingquan knew Mr. Fu’s capabilities. It could be said that everything the Tang family had now relied on Mr. Fu.
Since it had come to this, no matter how unwilling he was, he could only heed the advice.
“Alright…” This single word seemed to drain all of Tang Mingquanâs strength.
Not just himâeven Zhang Qing and Tang Yuqi seemed affected.
The study suddenly fell silent.
Outside the study.
“Why?” Tang Yue now knew the truth, but she couldn’t figure out the reason.
Why did the Tang family go to such lengths to switch her and Yu Zhen? What were they after?
“Fate, and fortune,” Luo Wenshu said.
Tang Yue was stunned. She pointed at herself. “Me?”
Luo Wenshu nodded.
“Impossible!” Tang Yue felt like she had heard a joke. “You probably don’t know just how unlucky I’ve been growing up…”
Luo Wenshu interrupted her. “It is a fact that you are unlucky, but the cause does not lie with you.”
“Twenty years ago, although the Tang family was wealthy in Chunshan City, they barely scraped into the second tier. Compared to today, they were on a completely different level.”
“Since the Tang family came into Tang Mingquan’s hands, because of his radical actions and vicious methods, the surface prosperity was actually bought with the accumulated luck of several generations.”
The year Zhang Qing became pregnant with Yu Zhen, the Tang family’s luck was almost exhausted. At that time, Tang Mingquan had just bet everything on a chance to rise to the next level.
At first, everything went smoothly, but as time passed, problems big and small followed one after another.
Tang Mingquan began to realize something was wrong and hurriedly sought out Mr. Fu.
But Mr. Fu was a human, not a god. He couldn’t turn the tide when the building was about to collapse.
Tang Mingquan knelt before him, eyes red, pleading earnestly, and invoked the favors of the previous generation.
This last point was Mr. Fu’s weakness.
When the previous head of the Tang family was in power, Mr. Fu was just a nobody whose wife and young child were seriously ill.
The good news was they could be cured; the bad news was it required a lot of money.
At that time, Mr. Fu was desperate and had planned to join his wife and child in death once they passed.
Unexpectedly, by chance, he met the head of the Tang family, who saved his family. The master of the house even took him in as a disciple.
Tang Mingquan invoked this immense favor. After a long silence, Mr. Fu finally said, “There is a way…”
At that time, the Tang family’s luck was nearly depleted. To save the situation, they had to replenish it.
But that was easier said than done. It had taken generations of ancestors to accumulate just that little bit.
However, there was a shortcutâ
Borrowing.
Mr. Fu went to great lengths, calculating repeatedly, until he finally found someone who met the criteria.
Luo Wenshu looked at Tang Yue. “That person was you.”
Tang Mingquanâs initial plan wasn’t to switch the childrenâthat was too troublesome. He wanted to have someone kill the Yu couple and then spend some money to adopt Tang Yue.
As if knowing his plan, Mr. Fu told him directly that he couldn’t do that.
An adopted child could take the Tang name, but everyone would know she wasn’t of Tang blood.
Switching the children was the only way, and the Yu family must never know. The fewer people who knew, the better.
Tang Mingquan had to put away his murderous intent and patiently set up the plan.
When the two children were born at the same time, the medical staff took advantage of Mrs. Yuâs unconsciousness to switch the babies. They took Yu Zhen away and placed Tang Yue in Tang Mingquan’s arms.
He named the child Tang Yue (Moon), claiming to the outside world that she was the little princess of the Tang family, the bright moon in the sky.
In reality, she was nothing more than a reflection in the water.
That night, the late-night crowd got some juicy gossip.
“Holy crap, fiction becomes reality!”
“Rich heiress and regular kid switched at birth!”
“Looking closely at the real heiress, Yu Zhen, she really does look a bit like Mrs. Tang. On the other hand, Tang Yue doesn’t look like anyone in the Tang family. She has a face of hardship!”
“Her name has the word ‘Zhen’ (True) in it. It really was destiny!”
Yu Zhen was also one of the late sleepers. Lying in her hospital bed, inexplicably restless and unable to sleep, she was scrolling through her phone to pass the time.
She never expected to see her name in the news.
At first, she thought it was someone with the same name, but after looking closely, she confirmed that the switched “Real Heiress” in the news was her.
It felt like a dream. Even the hospital bed beneath her seemed to turn into a soft, white cloud floating in the sky.
I am… the daughter of the Tang family?
And Tang Yuqiâs biological sister?
A myriad of thoughts popped into her head, and her breathing became rapid. Then, she heard her father’s phone ring. After a while, he picked it up.
“Hello… Yes, I am. May I ask… Mr. Tang? …”
Is it the Mr. Tang she was thinking of?
The head of the Tang family, her biological father, Tang Mingquan?
Yu Zhen soon heard her motherâs voice asking gently, “Old Yu, what’s wrong?”
The Other Side.
Tang Yue had returned to the hotel.
Just like when she went to the Tang villa, she didn’t know how she got back.
She opened her eyes and was in the shadows by the river. Luo Wenshu stood between light and shadow, her voice calm. “Go back. They will come to find you soon and tell you the so-called truth.”
“If you’re bored, you can carefully observe their expressions. It’s quite interesting.”
Tang Yue returned to her room alone.
Just as Luo Wenshu said, not long after, the family of three from the Tang clan arrived.
Their expressions were just as she had describedâvery interesting. Those eyes that usually ignored or looked at her with slight disgust now carried a fake apology.
Tang Mingquan maintained his superior posture, unsmiling and stern, as if reading from a script, telling her about the accidental switch years ago.
