Chapter 21: Did He Threaten You?

Gu Huaiye stayed at Father Gu’s side for two hours before leaving the hospital.

Now that he had no money, he didn’t know where to go, so he sat in the park near the apartment for the entire afternoon.

The sky grew dark.

Just as he was about to get up, his phone rang suddenly. It was a call from Chen Zirui.

After picking up, before he could even speak, Chen Zirui’s angry voice came through the phone.

“I heard you aren’t divorcing anymore?”

“En.”

“Why? Did he threaten you?”

Gu Huaiye sighed and said, “The idea of divorce before was too immature. I have no money now, and my dad is still sick. I can’t be so selfish, caring about nothing just for my own satisfaction.”

Hearing this, Chen Zirui fell silent.

After a long while, he said guiltily, “Brother Gu, I’m sorry. I’m too useless to help you.”

Gu Huaiye laughed. “How are you not helping? You just work hard for me now. When you strike it rich and your dad stops controlling your finances, I’ll be relying on you.”

Hearing his words, Chen Zirui instantly found his fighting spirit.

“Okay, Brother Gu. I’ve already gone to the company to do odd jobs. I believe I can get promoted to management soon. Anyway, as soon as I have money, I’ll come help you.”

“I knew I didn’t make friends with you for nothing.”

The two chatted about other things. After hanging up, a pair of white shoes suddenly intruded into his line of sight.

Gu Huaiye looked up to see Xie Miaohan’s cold, aloof face.

“Why are you sitting here?”

Gu Huaiye withdrew his gaze, stood up, and patted the dust off his pants.

“Nothing to do, just spacing out here.”

“Did you only come here?” Xie Miaohan asked.

“Otherwise?” Gu Huaiye frowned, his tone impatient. “Do you have to control my freedom now too?”

Xie Miaohan glanced at him, seeming not to want to continue this topic, his tone somewhat indifferent.

“Let’s go home. You still have to cook for me.”

Gu Huaiye was dumbfounded.

He pointed at himself in disbelief.

“You’re sure you want me to cook?”

Xie Miaohan looked at him expressionlessly. The attitude was clear: it had to be him.

Gu Huaiye was speechless to the point of laughter.

“Fine. As long as you dare to eat.”

Back at the apartment, Gu Huaiye rolled up his sleeves and strode into the kitchen.

Less than a minute later, the sound of a bowl shattering came from inside.

Then came Gu Huaiye’s cursing voice.

Xie Miaohan continued with his own business without batting an eyelid, not going in to help Gu Huaiye.

After an unknown amount of time, Gu Huaiye finally came out carrying two bowls of noodles and placed them on the dining table.

“Ready to eat.” Gu Huaiye looked at Xie Miaohan and gritted his teeth. “If you don’t finish it, I will definitely kill you.”

The kitchen was hot and stuffy; he didn’t know how Xie Miaohan stood it before.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to hire a servant, but Xie Miaohan firmly refused to employ one, so he had to give up.

He wouldn’t do something that made him suffer; from now on, he would come home after meal times.

Xie Miaohan sat at the table, looking at the messily cooked noodles in the bowl, his brows knitting slightly.

Seeing this, Gu Huaiye raised an eyebrow. “Don’t tell me you’re disgusted.”

“No.”

Xie Miaohan picked up his chopsticks and ate the noodles methodically. There was not a trace of emotion on his face, so one couldn’t tell if it was delicious or terrible.

Seeing that his face showed no disgust, Gu Huaiye thought he had actually made a delicacy.

He hurriedly picked up his chopsticks and took a bite of the noodles. His face immediately contorted.

Wocao, he seemed to have used the wrong seasoning.

Sweet and salty, so weird.

He lifted his eyes to look at Xie Miaohan, thinking, Is there something wrong with his taste buds?

Ten minutes later, Xie Miaohan finished eating, while Gu Huaiye had only taken one bite and didn’t dare take a second.

He was afraid he would die of poisoning.

Xie Miaohan saw through his thoughts. After standing up, he said to Gu Huaiye, “I’m going to take a shower. There is bread in the cupboard; it might be expired, deal with it.”

He took two steps, then suddenly turned to look at Gu Huaiye.

“Also, no need for you to wash the dishes. I’m afraid if you break any more, the money I earn won’t be enough for you to spend.”

After Xie Miaohan went into the bathroom, Gu Huaiye rolled his eyes in the direction he left.

Really treating him like a servant.

Gu Huaiye didn’t want to eat the noodles. He tidied up the table, then opened the cupboard and took out the bread inside.

He was too hungry, so he opened one directly and started eating.

After eating several in a row, he started to feel scared, worried if he would get a stomach ache.

He immediately picked up the wrapper and checked the date under the light.

The date was very fresh; it didn’t look like it was about to expire at all.

Gu Huaiye pouted and tore open another bread wrapper.

The next morning, Chen Zirui went downstairs to dine and heard Chen Xialin crying and arguing with Father Chen.

“Dad! Brother Gu is already bankrupt, so his Omega probably won’t want him either. What’s wrong with me marrying him now?”

Father Chen glared at Chen Xialin sternly.

“No nonsense! Your statuses are worlds apart now; how is he worthy of marrying you?”

“I don’t care, I don’t care about those things!”

Listening to their conversation, a thought flashed through Chen Zirui’s mind.

Right, if Gu Huaiye married his brother…

Wouldn’t the financial problem be solved?

Unfortunately, their old man was too stubborn and loved saving face, insisting on remembering the grudge from ten years ago.

“Brother Gu is a potential stock.” Chen Zirui suddenly inserted himself into their topic. “As long as he’s given a chance, he can definitely rise again. He and Little Lin are so compatible pheromone-wise, I think we can let them be together.”

Chen Zirui paused, lifting his eyes to look at Father Chen. “Besides, aren’t you always worrying that Little Lin refuses to get married? Now you don’t have to worry.”

Chen Xialin cast a grateful look at Chen Zirui.

“Right! Except for Brother Gu, I don’t want anyone!”

But even with the two of them singing in harmony, they couldn’t shake Father Chen’s decision in the slightest.

Father Chen slammed his palm heavily on the dining table, and their voices stopped abruptly.

“From now on, no one is allowed to mention Gu Huaiye. Whoever dares mention his name is no longer my son.”

Father Chen looked at Chen Zirui and warned, “Especially you. You are not allowed to have any contact with him again. Xie Miaohan has joined our competitor’s company. He called me yesterday; if you approach Gu Huaiye again, he will cut off our financial path regardless of the cost.”

If it were before, Father Chen would have just treated Xie Miaohan as a joke and wouldn’t have taken it to heart.

But after the Gu family’s bankruptcy, he also understood that this man was a lunatic; it was best not to provoke him if possible.

“So do you understand? It’s impossible for you and Gu Huaiye in this lifetime. Give up early,” Father Chen said to Chen Xialin.

“He actually used the company to threaten you?” Chen Zirui said in disbelief, “No way, I have to tell Brother Gu.”

“Chen Zirui!” Father Chen was thoroughly enraged by Chen Zirui, staring at him with anger in his eyes. “If you dare contact that person again, I will kick you out of the house. Anyway, I have plenty of sons; I don’t need useless ones.”

Chen Xialin opened his mouth, wanting to speak up for Chen Zirui.

One month later, Gu Huaiye opened a drawer and put a sum of money inside.

He locked it with a key, then hid the key in a place Xie Miaohan would never touch.

During this period, he had fleeced quite a bit of private money from Xie Miaohan. Once he saved enough, divorce would be just around the corner.

Having experienced the huge ups and downs of life, Gu Huaiye was still fairly optimistic, believing that wherever one falls, one can stand up again.

It wasn’t like he would be this unlucky for his whole life.

Gu Huaiye curved his lips in a smile. He turned around and saw Xie Miaohan standing at the door, almost scaring his soul away.

“Wocao, when did you stand there?”

“Just now.” Xie Miaohan walked in, sat on the bed, and pretended not to know anything. “What were you doing just now? Why so nervous?”

Gu Huaiye gave a dry laugh, feeling incredibly guilty. “Nothing. You appearing behind me silently, of course I’d be scared.”

Xie Miaohan glanced at him, then lay down and closed his eyes.

Seeing that he didn’t question further, Gu Huaiye breathed a sigh of relief.

He turned off the bedroom light, lay down next to Xie Miaohan, and prepared to sleep.

Suddenly, Xie Miaohan hugged him.

Gu Huaiye’s body stiffened. “Wh… what are you doing?”

“Have you ever thought…” Xie Miaohan’s Adam’s apple rolled, his voice slightly hoarse. “We could do a permanent mark.”

Gu Huaiye was frightened by this sentence. He shivered and pushed Xie Miaohan’s embrace away.

He sat up hurriedly, shocked and speechless. “You must be crazy.”

Xie Miaohan also sat up. In the dark, the sinister gloom in his eyes was revealed without concealment.

“Are you still thinking of leaving?”
