Chapter 14
Since they were still in combat, Xu Ziyan only zoned out for a brief moment before climbing up and using the obstacles for cover to continue toward the main battlefield at the Cathedral.
Knowing that Xie Wei was protecting him, he became much bolder. Healing and armor flowed endlessly along the way, supporting the Assaulters at the front, while he occasionally used the healing gun to add a bit of damage. With such support, the capture point was quickly taken by Xu Ziyan’s team, and the percentage countdown began.
The opposing Sniper and Medic, on the other hand, were terrified by Xie Wei’s precise marksmanship. They were fearful wherever they went, so their support was comparatively slower. The Sniper, in particular, had tried to duel Xie Wei at the start, but after discovering Xie Wei’s bullets were always faster than his own, he simply chose to give up and began calling for his team’s Assaulter to provide support.
The Assaulter who had just tried to kill the Medic and hit a brick wall was now being called to hunt Xie Wei. He felt somewhat unspeakably miserable.
However, unlike hunting a Medic, hunting a Sniper only required getting close. An Assaulter’s advantage at close range was infinite. The heavy weight of a sniper rifle meant Snipers couldn’t move as agilely as Medics.
The sea breeze whipped around. On the Bell Tower, the highest point in Ireland City, Xie Wei pulled the bolt. A shell casing clattered to the floor, and a new bullet was pushed into the chamber.
Using the high-magnification scope, he simply swept the entire map and surprisingly found that the enemy Sniper had quietly slipped away.
Are they preparing to give up?
No.
It looks more like avoiding the spearhead.
Xie Wei was highly alert to danger. He immediately stowed his sniper rifle and drew his sidearm pistol.
The Assaulter coming upstairs didn’t expect that even after masking his footsteps, Xie Wei would still sense something was wrong. But this close range was just about enough. He drew his assault rifle, intending to clash head-on. But unexpectedly, the moment he saw Xie Wei, before he could fire, a smoke grenade silently rolled to his feet.
Now, not only the Assaulter, but even Xie Wei was stunned.
However, he recovered quickly, raised his pistol, and aimed at the vague silhouette in the smoke.
At this rank, everyone knew how to play. The Assaulter reacted too, firing back.
Pistol damage wasn’t high, and compared to a close-range assault rifle, it was insignificant. Just as the Assaulter thought he was about to succeed, Xie Wei unhurriedly took out a syringe and injected it into himself.
As a Medic’s most powerful healing method, the moment the injection went in, Xie Wei’s health bar instantly restored to full.
Assaulter: ??? Why do you, a Sniper, have an injection?
A memory suddenly flashed in his mind of trying to kill the Medic earlier only to be headshot by a sniper. Realizing something, a look of shock and disbelief appeared on his face.
Xie Wei didn’t give him a chance to let his imagination run wild. One shot to the head sent him into the respawn countdown once again.
Having dodged the assault, Xie Wei didn’t plan to continue sniping from this exposed position. Putting away his pistol, he was about to leave when he paused in his steps and looked down through the window.
He saw the Medic with the ID Ice skulking in the small bushes beneath the Bell Tower, holding up a healing gun to top up the health of the Assaulters who were killing wildly in front of the Cathedral. Occasionally, the Medic would look up to check the situation.
Looking up, his eyes met Xie Wei’s gaze. The youth immediately lowered his head and hurriedly shifted positions, his movements carrying a bit of panic.
Xie Wei watched his retreating figure and chuckled.
It wasn’t that he hadn’t received special treatment before, nor that he hadn’t been praised to the heavens in ranked matches. But this kind of thing… this was the first time he had encountered it.
Xie Wei had played Sniper for so many years; being cut down by rushing Assaulters was nothing new. When he discovered the enemy Assaulter, he had already mentally selected the next sniping point for after he respawned.
He never expected a smoke grenade to appear on the Bell Tower at such a perfect moment.
The Bell Tower was in a remote location, and the sniping point was high up. There was only one way to achieve this—Xu Ziyan had dodged and weaved all the way here, risking being sniped, just to run under the Bell Tower and throw a smoke grenade through the window, saving him in the nick of time.
Thinking of this, a trace of strange emotion involuntarily surfaced in Xie Wei’s heart.
Adding the healing injection from before… if Xu Ziyan had no extra feelings for him, would he have gone this far?
However, I saved Xu Ziyan earlier, so Xu Ziyan saved me.
Reciprocity. Just repaying a favor.
It’s also possible he wants to attract my attention through such behavior to gain some benefit from me.
Anything is possible. Anyway, it can’t be because he likes me.
Thinking this way, Xie Wei’s mood calmed down significantly. He tugged at the corner of his lips, shouldered his sniper rifle, and relocated to the next sniping point.
