Chapter 26: Giving Him the Cold Shoulder
Just as Gu Huaiye was about to return to the auction hall, Xie Miaohan came out from inside.
“Where did you go? What took you so long?” Xie Miaohan asked.
“Why did you come out?” Gu Huaiye asked back. “Need to use the restroom?”
“I came out to find you.” Xie Miaohan smelled the smoke on him and frowned involuntarily. “You smoked?”
“En.” Gu Huaiye nodded. “I want to go back.”
“Not buying anymore?”
“No, it’s a bit boring,” Gu Huaiye said listlessly.
Xie Miaohan put an arm around his shoulder. “Then let’s go back.”
“What about the things we bought?” Gu Huaiye looked back.
“They’ll be delivered.”
“Alright.”
After Gu Huaiye sat in the passenger seat, Xie Miaohan showed no intention of getting in the car.
He said to Gu Huaiye inside, “Wait for me a moment; I’m going to have a smoke.”
“Okay.” Gu Huaiye had already adapted to the fact that Xie Miaohan was addicted to cigarettes.
Xie Miaohan walked a bit further away and made a call while smoking.
“Hello, could you help pull the surveillance footage from outside the venue? My husband lost something, and I want to see who he came into contact with.”
“En, send it directly to me once you retrieve it.”
“Troubled you, thanks.”
Xie Miaohan hung up the phone and threw the cigarette, which he had only taken a few puffs of, into the trash can.
When he got into the car, Gu Huaiye beside him suddenly looked at him.
“Let’s move back to the villa for a while.”
Xie Miaohan was slightly stunned, asking with some surprise, “You’re willing to go there?”
“En, I was just acting out of spite before. After all, that’s my parents’ house and the place where I grew up. I actually quite want to go back and live there.”
“When do you want to go?”
Gu Huaiye thought for a moment and smiled. “How about tomorrow? Since I have nothing to do anyway. Can we move the gaming console and everything there?”
“Sure, I’ll have someone clean it again today,” Xie Miaohan said. “No need to bring those; I’ll buy new ones for you.”
“That works too.” Gu Huaiye closed his eyes to rest.
Xie Miaohan glanced at him, feeling something was strange, but couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
“Not driving yet?” Gu Huaiye said with his eyes closed.
“En, driving now.”
At night, Xie Miaohan received the surveillance video sent by the organizer.
He saw Gu Huaiye and Chen Zirui standing together. They were leaning very close and exchanged a few words.
As for what was said, he couldn’t hear clearly even after turning up the volume.
Xie Miaohan had to study this footage repeatedly, trying to deduce something from their expressions.
Chen Zirui seemed very nervous, but Gu Huaiye appeared very calm.
However, this wasn’t the whole picture.
For a few seconds, Gu Huaiye had his back to the camera, so he couldn’t see the expression on Gu Huaiye’s face.
Could it be that he knew about Gu Yuannian’s suicide?
No.
With Gu Huaiye’s personality, if he knew, it would be impossible for him to appear so calm.
He was precisely afraid that Gu Huaiye would feel guilty, so he deliberately kept this matter from him.
He was certain Gu Huaiye didn’t have many friends right now, and no one would convey the news of Gu Yuannian’s death to him, yet he just had to run into Chen Zirui today.
Xie Miaohan took off his gold-rimmed glasses and rubbed his brow wearily.
“Why are you in the small room?” Gu Huaiye’s voice rang out suddenly.
Xie Miaohan turned around to see Gu Huaiye leaning lazily against the doorframe, raising an eyebrow at him.
“You want to sleep in a separate bed from me tonight?”
Xie Miaohan quietly turned off his phone screen and smiled gently at Gu Huaiye.
“I came to see if there was anything that could be moved over.”
A very lame excuse.
He thought Gu Huaiye would press further or mock his terrible lie.
But unexpectedly, Gu Huaiye acted very uninterested, said “Then take your time looking,” and turned back to the master bedroom.
Xie Miaohan pursed his thin lips, stood up, and turned off the light in the small room.
Upon returning to the master bedroom, he saw Gu Huaiye was already lying down, holding his phone playing a game.
Xie Miaohan went over and lay down beside him. A moment later, he asked the question pressing on his heart.
“Did you see anyone when you went to the restroom today?”
Gu Huaiye’s hand playing the game paused. He lifted his eyelids to look at Xie Miaohan.
“Just say what you want to say.”
“I saw Chen Zirui at the auction.”
Gu Huaiye turned his gaze back to the phone and continued playing, his tone carrying mockery.
“What about it? Are you suspecting I’m having an affair with him again?”
“I don’t think that way anymore.”
“Tsk, then why did you cut off my contact with him before?”
“You can continue playing with him now.”
Gu Huaiye found this statement somewhat laughable and couldn’t help but let out a very soft chuckle.
“Then what are you testing for today?”
Xie Miaohan froze, unable to answer for a moment.
Gu Huaiye lost the mood for gaming, so he simply turned off his phone.
“I just chatted casually with him about recent events. If you don’t believe me, you can call and ask him.”
After speaking, Gu Huaiye turned over, his back to Xie Miaohan.
Xie Miaohan stared at the back of his head, sighed helplessly, and reached out to turn off the bedside lamp.
Immediately after, he leaned in, wrapped his arms around Gu Huaiye’s waist, and quietly released his pheromones.
Gu Huaiye’s eyes changed slightly, and the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but turn up.
Xie Miaohan was seducing him.
If he had known earlier that the flower on the high mountain only needed one permanent mark to be thoroughly conquered…
When he first met Xie Miaohan, he should have dragged the other party to get the surgery and forcibly marked him.
Then he wouldn’t have had to suffer the other’s indifference and neglect for ten years.
But on second thought, if he had the chance to start over, would he still be willing to be with Xie Miaohan?
Most likely, he wouldn’t want to repeat the same mistakes.
Gu Huaiye closed his eyes, turning a blind eye to Xie Miaohan’s seduction and dependence.
He deliberately didn’t release his Alpha pheromones, allowing the scent of wisteria to permeate the air.
After a short while, he sensed the person behind him trembling slightly, seemingly on the verge of collapse.
Gu Huaiye ignored it, forcing himself to sleep.
He had been given the cold shoulder for so many years.
Giving Xie Miaohan the cold shoulder once wasn’t excessive, right?
An Omega who had been marked was destined to have a hard time without the comfort of their partner.
Cold sweat broke out on Xie Miaohan’s forehead, the corners of his eyes were dyed crimson, and his clear, cold eyes were now covered with a layer of mist.
His breathing became rapid, and he clenched his fists, knuckles turning white.
Xie Miaohan’s nature had always been arrogant; he couldn’t do things like humbly pleasing others.
Even when Gu Huaiye took him for the first time back then, Xie Miaohan bit his lip tightly without making a sound, not giving Gu Huaiye a single bit of response.
This also caused Gu Huaiye to lose his sense of proportion, leading to him being sent to the hospital in the end.
Now he could see Gu Huaiye was intentionally making things difficult for him, but Xie Miaohan was still unwilling to bow his head.
He shouldn’t show weakness; this would only make Gu Huaiye look down on him even more.
The permanent mark was to keep Gu Huaiye, but Xie Miaohan hadn’t expected that his low-quality artificial pheromones would have absolutely no effect on Gu Huaiye, and in the end, the only one suffering was himself.
Xie Miaohan curled his lips in self-mockery, got out of bed with difficulty, swayed, and hurriedly supported himself on the cabinet nearby.
He anxiously found the inhibitor and injected himself.
The discomfort didn’t alleviate, so he unhesitatingly injected another shot until he could endure it.
After going through this, his bangs on his forehead were wet with sweat, his face pale, looking incredibly wretched.
Xie Miaohan got back into bed and hugged Gu Huaiye, who was pretending to sleep.
“I didn’t lose,” Xie Miaohan whispered. “I never regret my decisions.”
Gu Huaiye’s eyelashes trembled slightly, not answering his words.
