Chapter 14: Declaring Sovereignty? White Moonlight, Jian Luoqing
The newcomer was polite and refined, but the moment he saw Shen Yunqian in the wheelchair, a look of surprise flashed across his face. His gaze shifted down to the bandages on Shen’s foot, then quickly returned to a proper demeanor.
“I am Jian Luoqing. I’m an… old acquaintance of Young Master Shen.”
When he said this, Shen Yunqian’s breath hitched. He opened his mouth nervously, but his throat felt blocked, unable to speak.
“Do you know him?” Lu Xunye lowered his head to ask the young man. receiving no reply, he said, “Then he doesn’t know you.”
“Is there something you need, Mr. Jian?” Lu Xunye glanced toward the hospital behind him, then turned back to the young man. “Oh, seeing a doctor.”
Jian Luoqing said strangely, “Sir, you… seem to harbor a lot of hostility toward me.”
“Mr. Jian is overthinking it. I don’t even know you; why would I have hostility?”
Lu Xunye lowered his eyes to look at the head of the youth in the wheelchair, then looked up. “Then we won’t disturb Mr. Jian from seeing the doctor.”
Lu Xunye pushed the wheelchair past Jian Luoqing.
Jian Luoqing’s body swayed slightly. After steadying himself, he said, “Please wait. I’m not here to see a doctor; I was just passing through. I have something to say. I heard Young Master Shen lives here and came specifically to find him. Can we speak in private?”
Hearing this name, Lu Xunye raised an eyebrow. Protagonist Gong?
Shen Yunqian maintained his calm as he looked at Jian Luoqing. The person in front of him was Si Jinyan’s sweetheart, who had gone abroad to study early on.
During the two years Si Jinyan went crazy, he always used Jian as a sedative, a life-saving talisman. Who would have thought today would be their first formal meeting?
How could he forget? The matter of the Shen family’s fall and Si Jinyan “letting bygones be bygones” to take in the Shen family young master was known throughout the city, even if Si Jinyan didn’t say it.
A “White Moonlight” naturally couldn’t tolerate the existence of a “substitute.” Perhaps it was precisely because Jian Luoqing returned to the country a year ago that Shen Yunqian was able to escape that hell.
After a long silence, Jian Luoqing thought he disagreed. A complex emotion flashed through his eyes. “I hope you understand that the Shen family is not the Shen family of the past, and you are no longer the high and mighty young master. Not contacting anyone or anything related to the Si family is for your own good.”
“You also know, based on your age, you should have still been a student.”
As his voice fell, Shen Yunqian’s heart felt as if a rusty steel knife had been inserted into it. Every breath was agonizing pain. He lowered his eyes, his hands tightly clasping together.
And Jian Luoqing’s words were piercing. Anyone with eyes could see he was declaring sovereignty. Naturally, Lu Xunye and Shen Yunqian heard it too.
Should have been a student?
So… Lu Xunye subconsciously looked down at Shen Yunqian.
So it wasn’t a suspension of schooling or a senior internship requiring renting outside, but that after the Shen family went bankrupt, he stopped going to school early on?
Lu Xunye thought of the news about the Shen family on his phone.
The Shen family only had two children, both naturally gifted from childhood. The eldest son had come into contact with corporate management early on. Growing up in such a family, Shen Yunqian certainly wouldn’t have given up his studies voluntarily.
How old was Shen Yunqian when the Shen family went bankrupt? Three years ago… he was only 18.
What exactly did Shen Yunqian experience in these three years? Are none of his relatives left? Or is it because of Si Jinyan…
Counting on Shen Yunqian to speak voluntarily was impossible. It seemed he still had to wait for the system to upgrade and open permissions to know the plot of this manga.
Lu Xunye got angry thinking about it; that broken system didn’t know where it had died off to.
At the same time, Lu Xunye exhausted the last bit of politeness he had for Jian Luoqing. “What exactly are you here for today?”
Hearing Lu Xunye’s deep, pleasant voice suppressing anger, Shen Yunqian realized there was someone else present. For a moment, he wanted to flee.
Only Shen Yunqian knew that he wasn’t as brave as imagined. On the contrary, he was very cowardly. So he still didn’t lift his head; he wanted to end this awkward conversation quickly, faster.
His voice was muffled as he said to Jian Luoqing, “…Okay, I promise you.”
“Promise my ass.” Lu Xunye couldn’t listen anymore. With one hand, he took the item out of the bag hanging on the armrest and clamped it onto Shen Yunqian’s face, casually throwing the bag into his lap with the other hand.
Shen Yunqian’s vision went black. He touched the thing on his face; based on the fabric, it seemed to be a hat.
Just as he was about to take it off, the direction of the wheelchair beneath him suddenly turned. His head felt dizzy as a voice sounded from above: “Don’t take it off.”
Lu Xunye waited until Shen Yunqian was facing a tree before turning back. “Mr. Jian is standing on what ground to tell him not to approach that scum? Shouldn’t these words be said to Si Jinyan? Tell him not to come and provoke Shen Yunqian.”
“I don’t speak very nicely, and since we are at a hospital, I think Mr. Jian should go register for ophthalmology. After all, a bully and a degenerate isn’t worth someone treating like a treasure to approach.”
Jian Luoqing frowned. “I think you have misunderstood.”
Just as Lu Xunye was about to speak, he was interrupted by the person beside him. It was Shen Yunqian’s voice: “He didn’t misunderstand.”
“If Mr. Jian is here for yourself, I promise you I won’t appear in front of Si Jinyan again. If you are here for him, then please… hope you can make him… keep his word.”
“So…” Jian Luoqing was surprised. “You don’t love him?”
This time Shen Yunqian didn’t speak. A glint of darkness crossed Lu Xunye’s eyes. He took over the conversation: “Since everything has been said, we’ll take our leave.”
With that, ignoring Jian Luoqing’s reaction, he pushed Shen Yunqian away.
“Thank you.”
Lu Xunye took the cotton candy from the vendor, paid, and walked toward Shen Yunqian, who was sitting in the wheelchair wearing a bucket hat and obediently holding the paper bag. He handed it to him. “Hold this.”
This was a commercial street, bustling with people coming and going.
Shen Yunqian pulled the brim of his hat lower and didn’t reach out to take it. “What did you bring me here for? Aren’t we going back?”
Lu Xunye didn’t comment, shaking the thing in his hand. “Here.”
Shen Yunqian glanced at his face and quickly withdrew his gaze. “I won’t eat it.”
Lu Xunye laughed. “Dream on. I’m asking you to hold it for me.”
“…” Shen Yunqian felt oddly disappointed for some reason.
He reached for the bamboo stick. The moment the cotton candy was transferred, Lu Xunye’s fingers brushed past his palm. Like a feather stroking lightly, it brought a wave of itchiness.
Shen Yunqian’s pupils flickered. He quickly snatched the bamboo stick and held it in his hand, his heart beating a few beats faster.
“Don’t steal a bite,” Lu Xunye said, then walked around to the back of the wheelchair, pushing it forward steadily.
After a while, he heard a very soft sound interjected in the noisy human voices: “Oh.”
Lu Xunye curled his lips, thinking: Quite easy to coax.
Shen Yunqian stared at this stick of cotton candy, engaging in a staring contest with the sticker eyes on it.
Along the way, Lu Xunye bought a lot of snacks, all piled in Shen Yunqian’s lap, claiming he was helping to hold them.
After another skewer of candied hawthorn was stuffed into his hand, Shen Yunqian couldn’t stand it anymore. “You…”
He held it in for a long time before saying a sentence: “You can’t finish it all. It’s a waste.”
Lu Xunye pouted, his tone arrogant. “Can’t help it. Isn’t there a Sugar Daddy providing support?”
Shen Yunqian: “…” Spendthrift. Not giving him money anymore.
Unaware that he was being criticized in the other’s heart, Lu Xunye turned on his phone screen and turned it off again. “It’s already three in the afternoon. Aren’t you hungry?”
He pushed Shen Yunqian to a designated eating area in front, found an empty table, sat down on the side himself, and started eating as if no one else was around.
Seeing Shen Yunqian still not moving after a long time, a sly smile flashed across Lu Xunye’s face. He hooked his finger at him.
Shen Yunqian was confused. Thinking he wanted to say something, and considering it was indeed a bit noisy here and being closer would help hear clearly, he slowly leaned forward.
A glint of mischief flashed in Lu Xunye’s eyes as he pressed down on Shen Yunqian’s hand.
Sensing the struggle, he applied a bit more force, leaned his head over, and took a bite of the cotton candy right from Shen’s hand.
Thinking of how he had been stuffing his face just moments ago, Shen Yunqian looked at the paw on his hand, his face darkening. “Hold it yourself.”
Lu Xunye suddenly realized. He let go, and Shen Yunqian immediately shrank his hand back from the tabletop, his expression looking like he wanted to say something but stopped.
“Not dirty. Look for yourself.” Lu Xunye held out his palm, palm facing him.
Shen Yunqian looked at it half-believingly and found there really wasn’t any grease.
Having his thoughts easily probed by the person involved, he felt a bit awkward, his voice getting weaker and weaker. “Even so… you’re not allowed to touch me.”
Lu Xunye stared fixedly at the person who only showed him a side profile, darkness surging in his eyes.
So Shen Yunqian actually likes Si Jinyan… was the mark on his neck also bitten by him?
Do protagonists really attract each other? No matter how tragic the process, do they always end up together in the end?
Then what about his mission? Why would the system make him conquer the Protagonist Shou, make him believe in a defiant rebirth, only to shatter it bit by bit?
“You eat it yourself.”
Lu Xunye put away his wandering thoughts and pushed the things over. Watching him eat slowly and methodically like a kitten, he complained in his heart: No wonder he likes cats.
Watching him eat, Lu Xunye found it interesting. “The tables and chairs here indeed aren’t very clean. You’re set though, bringing your own stool.”
“…” Shen Yunqian’s movement paused. “You really don’t know how to talk.”
Lu Xunye didn’t refute, keeping a smile on his face. “Sugar Daddy will get used to it in the future.”
“Why should I get used to it?”
Just as Shen Yunqian asked back, a brightly colored flyer was stuffed into his field of vision.
“You two, the amusement park is open, tickets are half price. You can take the kids to have a look.”
Lu Xunye was stunned for a moment, taking the flyer. “Okay.”
With his permission, a group of people surrounded them the next second. “Back-to-school season, Leyin Music School is recruiting! Sign up for a year, get a free ukulele and ten tutoring sessions.”
“Water park grand opening! Adults bringing a child under ten get 20% off, children half price; couples get 30% off.”
…
Seven or eight stacks of flyers and promotional fans piled up on the table, and a business card sneaked in among them.
Rather than sneaking in, it was blatantly placed on top of all the flyers.
With the sharp contrast of all the warm tones, this blue card became increasingly conspicuous.
Lu Xunye looked at Shen Yunqian, dumbfounded. “Do I look easy to bully?”
Shen Yunqian silently moved his gaze away, avoiding him.
