Chapter 62: Mind in Turmoil
The wooden house looked familiar to Su Muyao.
Before, the Space had contained a massive estate where she stored all kinds of supplies. There used to be many rooms, but now only one was revealed.
Still, this filled Su Muyao with anticipation.
She quickly walked over and entered the wooden house, finding potatoes, flour, and vegetable seeds inside.
There were several bags of both potatoes and flour.
“With these, we won’t have any problem even if we don’t go hunting for a short while.”
The family wouldn’t go hungry with these supplies.
“If only there were soybeans.”
If she had soybeans, she could make many soy-based foods. She hadn’t found any soybeans when she went into the forest. Su Muyao really wanted to get her hands on some; they were so versatile. In the snow season, she wouldn’t have to worry about lacking vegetablesāshe could sprout bean sprouts right at home.
The Space System said, “Doesn’t this world sell soybeans? When the Host goes to the Trade Market, you can buy some with the crystal coins you earn.”
“Once you buy soybeans, you can plant them in the Space fields too.”
“If the Host thinks there isn’t enough land, you can kiss Wen Nanxi, Xiao Jihan, and the others. The land should expand further.”
Su Muyao remarked, “You really spare no effort in trying to persuade me!”
“Of course, I’m afraid the Host will be too serious.”
“In the Beast World, the rules are different from the technological era or the apocalypse. This is a world of Beastmen; the Host should do as the locals do…”
The System rattled on and on.
Su Muyao didn’t follow its lead. Instead, she said, “When we go to the city in a few days, I’ll figure out a way to buy some things.”
After speaking, Su Muyao looked at the vegetable seeds nearby.
They turned out to be leek seeds.
Su Muyaoās eyes lit up. “Leeks are great. They can be used for dumplings, stir-fries, leek pockets, and eggplant boxes.”
“Though we don’t have eggplants at home right now, we can buy some at the Trade Market.”
The Beast World had a certain level of civilization, and the south grew many vegetable crops. However, they mostly grew obvious vegetables like loofah, eggplant, green peppers, and cauliflower. Things like cabbage were often ignored as grass.
With a plan in mind, Su Muyao planted some leeks and potatoes in the Space before exiting.
Only then did she lie down to sleep.
She slept very well.
Early the next morning, after Su Muyao woke up and had breakfast with everyone, she began to slowly turn the soil in the yard using a bone knife.
There was no choice; the house lacked farming tools, so she could only till the land this way for now.
At this time, Hua Linye was inside cleaning the bowls and wiping the tables, while Xiao Jihan continued to boil brown sugar. They had dug up a lot of sugar beets yesterday; they had boiled two pots earlier, but there were still many left. Xiao Jihan was boiling them all.
Wen Nanxi went to fetch water.
Everyone was busy; no one was idle.
Mei Qingchen was once again tortured by the aroma of food in the morning.
Having not eaten dinner or breakfast, he felt hungry and had to come out.
Just as he was about to leave, he saw Su Muyao busy in a corner of the yard.
Habitually, he was about to show a look of disdain and mockery. But remembering the events of last night, Mei Qingchen restrained his expression, his phoenix eyes turning deep and dark.
Su Muyao was focused on her work when she seemed to sense a chilling aura. She involuntarily looked up towards the source.
And then she saw Mei Qingchen.
Meeting his rippling, deep phoenix eyes, Su Muyaoās expression instinctively changed.
The bright smile on her face vanished instantly.
Mei Qingchen looked as cold, magnificent, and breathtakingly beautiful as ever, but his aura was too gloomy. His phoenix eyes, in particular, were shadowed, as if he hadn’t rested well all night.
Su Muyao felt that when some people didn’t sleep well, they might wake up grumpy.
He wasn’t planning to do something again, was he?
Su Muyao immediately went on guard, holding the bone knife in front of her in an involuntary defensive posture.
Seeing her reaction, Mei Qingchen suddenly chuckled lightly, like an Udumbara flower blooming at midnightāgorgeous and fragrant, yet filled with an extremely dangerous aura.
He walked slowly toward Su Muyao, stopping not far in front of her. Instead of coming closer, he said lazily, “Am I that scary?”
“If I really wanted to do something, do you think your meager ability could stop me?”
“That bone knife of yours is very fragile.”
Su Muyao became even more guarded. “Mei Qingchen, did you take the wrong medicine again?”
They were in a corner, and the kitchen was on the other side. Hua Linye and Xiao Jihan, who were in the kitchen, couldn’t see this spot.
If she shouted, they would appear immediately. But there was no guarantee Mei Qingchen wouldn’t do something crazy first.
“Mei Qingchen, I’ve already given you the prescription. I told you it could save your mother. If you don’t believe it, that’s your problem.”
At the mention of the prescription, Mei Qingchen paused.
“And what about the promise you made? Are you going back on your word?”
He had said he wouldn’t attack her again, but deep down, she instinctively didn’t trust him.
Mei Qingchen glanced at Su Muyao and handed his life-bound sword to her.
“Since you still have energy, fix my sword for me.”
Because of her, he hadn’t rested well all night, his mind filled with her image. One moment she was vicious, the next she was repairing the spirit sword, and then she was as she appeared yesterday.
He couldn’t tell which one was the real her.
It made his mind a mess.
“Fix it, and I will give you this knife!”
Saying this, Mei Qingchen took out a small, sharp knife.
“This is much more useful than the bone knife in your hand. If you stab me with this, you might actually penetrate my skin.”
Mei Qingchen pulled the knife from its sheath, revealing a sharp, exquisite blade that gleamed in the sunlight.
One look was enough to tell it was a fine weapon.
Su Muyaoās eyes lit up uncontrollably.
She liked good weapons.
The Space Spirit got excited too. “Host, that knife is a magical artifact! It’s incredibly sharp, impenetrable, and cuts iron like mud.”
“It also has mechanisms inside that can hide many silver needles. It suits you perfectly, Host.”
Hearing the Space Systemās words, Su Muyao wanted it even more.
Based on her predecessor’s memories, she knew that mechanical magical artifacts were extremely precious. The Mei family seemed to specialize in mechanical arts.
She wanted it.
But thinking of Mei Qingchenās relationship with this body, and worried he might be pulling a trick, she asked, “Are you sure?”
“You didn’t tamper with it?”
Mei Qingchen leaned against the nearby wall, his posture lazy, exuding an aura of peerless elegance. He said indifferently, “If I wanted to tamper with something, why would I give you a knife like this?”
“I just want my life-bound sword to recover quickly. Only after you purify all the invading black energy on it can I fully repair it with Mystic Spirit Iron.”
