Chapter 13: Blushing: I Will Say Thank You.
“Tang Xingye.”
A thunderclap exploded in Tang Xingye’s ear. He withdrew his hand as if startled awake, slamming the phone face down onto the table.
“Eh? Scared you?” Ji Chen took a step back.
Tang Xingye felt like he had been caught peeking at a banned book. His heart beat very fast. He blinked. “What were you saying just now?”
Ji Chen still had a lollipop in his mouth. He raised an eyebrow slightly, his gaze landing on the tips of Tang Xingye’s red ears, and asked with concern, “I saw you dazing out at your phone, so I asked why your face is so red?”
“Huh?” Tang Xingye steadied his mind. “I’m a little hot.”
Tang Xingye felt a scorching breath; his nose was filled with the smell of hormones and pheromones. He noticed Ji Chen’s chest rising and falling, biceps bulging, veins winding like vines. The sweat-soaked tank top clung to his body, translucently outlining the muscle contours.
The Alpha’s power and wildness hit him in the face.
It looked like he just came back from boxing.
Tang Xingye quickly looked down and then retracted his gaze, curling his fingertips slightly.
…Why are they all so big?!
“Then let’s turn on the AC.” Ji Chen prepared to get the remote.
Tang Xingye shook his head, finding an excuse to stand up. “I’ll go to the corridor to catch a breeze. You just finished exercising; it’s not good to blow cold air.”
He pushed the door open to the corridor corner and continued replying to messages.
L: [Why aren’t you speaking?]
Tang Xingye bit his lower lip and typed fiercely.
Candy Heart: [Gege, you are so big there.]
After sending the message, Tang Xingye got goosebumps all over. Why did he have to praise that bastard?!
But Lu Zhi sent this just to hear people praise him, right? Now his tail must be wagging up to the sky!
L: [Do you like it? I can let you touch it later.]
Tang Xingye: …This is sexual harassment, right? Telling an Omega to touch that?!
He sneered and prepared to screenshot it as key evidence to expose Lu Zhi’s true colors.
L: [The muscles aren’t big enough right now. Wait for me to train a bit more, the texture will be better.]
Tang Xingye’s finger froze in mid-air.
…Oh, talking about muscles.
He thought he finally caught Lu Zhi’s slip-up, but he didn’t. Tang Xingye was sad for a moment, dejectedly closing the screenshot tool.
Although he was sad, Candy Heart didn’t follow suit.
Candy Heart: [Okay, thank you Gege!]
L: [If you still want to see, you can tell me.]
Candy Heart: [Gege you’re so good, I like Gege the most!]
After sending, Tang Xingye sneered. Next time I ask you to photograph your face, you’ll agree too, right?
This time, the other party was silent for quite a while before sending a message.
L: [Don’t say that sentence casually, you will regret it.]
Regret?
Tang Xingye chewed on these two words and snorted. Since when did he, Tang Xingye, ever regret anything he did?
Candy Heart: [Not very casual, every sentence I say is very serious.]
Candy Heart: [With you, I won’t regret it.]
—If you have the ability, try making me regret it?
On the other side of the screen, Lu Zhi’s pupils contracted, staring at these two sentences as if locking onto prey.
The chat box fell into a long silence. Tang Xingye scoffed lightly. Just as he wanted to send some more flirting ambiguous words, his spine suddenly felt cold.
He didn’t know if it was his illusion, but he inexplicably felt the gaze from the other side penetrating the screen, locking onto him tightly. Like countless tentacles crawling out from the screen, winding up along his fingertips. They slid over his wrists, drilled into his cuffs, entangling him, exploring deeper.
Tang Xingye shook his head. Lu Zhi is going the Platonic love route now; how could he have this hallucination of being targeted? It must be that the wind in the corridor is too cold.
Meanwhile, inside a high-end apartment.
Zhou Lin pushed the door open and was forced back a half-step by the overwhelming scent of cocoa. The pheromone repulsion between Alphas made his temples throb. The living room was a mess, cushions scattered on the floor, several empty inhibitor syringes toppled on the glass coffee table.
He frowned. “My brother, this fake rut of yours… why not find Ji Chen for a fight? He’d definitely be happy to oblige.”
He sized up Lu Zhi curled up on the sofa. Disheveled black hair revealed a section of reddened neck, the gland covered in needle holes from inhibitors.
Now the effect of inhibitors was getting worse and worse; even multiplying the dose couldn’t suppress the rampaging pheromones. If Lu Zhi didn’t find an Omega partner soon, he would be driven mad by the fake ruts sooner or later. But if he really found one, that Omega would have to suffer.
Lu Zhi ignored him, lowering his head to swipe on his phone screen. Zhou Lin glimpsed the lock screen wallpaper was a familiar close-up of a hand, but before he could see clearly, it was switched to the Moments interface. He saw Lu Zhi flowingly click on a post with hand pictures, long-press to save the images, and then backhand a report.
“You’re in an online relationship? Holding your phone all day without letting go?”
Meeting Lu Zhi’s death stare, Zhou Lin knew he guessed right. Being so protective, not even willing to let him ask about it.
After a long silence, Zhou Lin suddenly spoke, “What happened between you and Tang Xingye? Things have been so stiff since the dessert shop incident that day. You won’t even go back to the dorm. regarding Ji Yu’s matter, you even specifically used my name. If you told him Ji Chen was brought by you, given Tang Xingye’s personality, he would definitely forgive you.”
Lu Zhi glanced at him sideways, the corner of his lips hooking into a meaningful arc: “Nothing happened.”
“Our relationship… is very good.”
Zhou Lin: “…?”
The Alpha licked his canine teeth, mixing chemicals. The exhaust fan in the lab buzzed, but it couldn’t dispel the figure lingering in his mind.
After listening to that little Beta’s report, the other party drilled into his dreams like a cunning, bewitching snake. The more he told himself not to think, the more frequently he recalled everything about that meeting.
Soft lips, beautiful hands, the pen being held…
Tang Xingye Tang Xingye Tang Xingye Tang Xingye Tang Xingye…
He was going crazy. This name appeared in his dreams, haunting his soul, drilling into his lungs, making him want more, more, more.
The other party had a good temper. Even when unreasonably asked to explain again, he would speak softly, “Okay, I’ll say it again.”
Perhaps, if he caught this cute little Beta and greedily pounded him over and over again, the other party would also shed tears and say softly, “Okay, you do it again.”
Rapid footsteps came from the corridor. He pursed his lips, like someone interrupted in a good thing, a trace of anxiety surfacing in his eyes as he quickly packed up his things.
Shen Qing kicked open the back door of the lab building, her black ponytail drawing a sharp arc in the wind. She narrowed her eyes, locking onto the sneaky Alpha boy ahead—wearing a black mask and hugging a backpack.
“Freeze! Disciplinary Department checking for contraband!”
The boy shook at the sound, taking off towards the small woods. Shen Qing cursed inwardly and was about to chase when she suddenly saw a familiar figure flash past the corner.
“Tang Xingye! Stop him! That guy took—”
Tang Xingye’s expression changed instantly. He lunged forward, extending his long leg to trip the person directly to the ground.
Moonlight cast dappled shadows on his cold profile through the gaps in the leaves. The way he frowned slightly looked exactly like a classical painting of the Virgin Mary in a church, appearing even more holy and pure, making one want to soil him with the filthiest means.
“S-Sorry!” The Alpha apologized stammeringly, eyes staring straight at Tang Xingye’s face, forgetting to even continue running.
Tang Xingye: “…”
Doing bad things, but apologizing to people.
He frowned, keenly noticing a suspicious pink bottle mouth exposed in the other’s backpack: “What’s in your bag?”
“It’s, it’s for you…”
The Alpha’s face flushed red. He scrambled to take the bottle back, but accidentally handed over the entire backpack. “Do you… want it?”
He looked up, gazing obsessively at Tang Xingye’s drooping eyelashes. If he could be punished under the watch of these eyes, he would accept it sweetly even if his ribs were stepped on and broken.
When Shen Qing caught up, she saw this scene—the suspect was handing contraband to Tang Xingye with a flushed face. She snatched the backpack and rummaged out a dozen pink potions.
“What is this?” Tang Xingye frowned slightly. “Poison?”
“No, no, how could I make that kind of thing? This is a gift for Wifey.” The Alpha’s heart beat fast, his face full of shy redness. He crawled in front of Tang Xingye, eyes full of anticipation. “Won’t you say thank you? Or if you don’t like it, slapping me once is also fine. I will say thank you.”
Tang Xingye: “…”
Psycho.
“Triple-concentrated heat agent.” Shen Qing shook the potion with a cold face. “Contraband strictly prohibited by the school.”
Seeing Tang Xingye’s confusion, Shen Qing explained: “It doesn’t do much harm to the human body; normal people drinking it is like drinking hot water, they’ll just feel hot for a while. But for AOs in their rut or heat, they are abnormally sensitive to pheromones,” she paused, eyes narrowing, “Drinking it would probably make them—”
Before finishing, Shen Qing glared coldly at the Alpha. “You want to trigger a pheromone riot in the school?”
That Alpha was still stealing glances at Tang Xingye, shrinking his neck in fear at Shen Qing’s glare: “No!”
“I, I just gave it to Wifey, I didn’t plan to give it to anyone else…”
He muttered aggrievedly, his gaze stuck to Tang Xingye’s waistline. If the Beta could also taste this… just imagining mist rising in those eyes made him tremble with excitement.
Shen Qing knocked the Alpha out with a clean chop, dragging him by the collar towards the exit. She said to Tang Xingye, “I’ll take him to the Disciplinary Department. Please help take these potions to the school hospital, they will dispose of them.”
Tang Xingye nodded in agreement, watching her figure disappear into the forest path.
No one was around; silence welled up like a tide.
Tang Xingye lowered his eyes and picked up the pink-glowing potion.
Moonlight passed through the gaps in the branches/leaves, dappled reflections on the glass bottle. The pink liquid flowed between his fingers like a tamed snake, winding docilely around his fingers, yet hissing quietly in the dark.
Tang Xingye’s fingertips tightened slightly, and as if possessed, he stuffed a potion into his pocket.
Maybe… one day it will come in handy?
The hypocritical, cold faces of his roommates suddenly floated before his eyes.
