Chapter 63: Truly Extraordinary
Su Muyao looked closely at Mei Qingchen.
She felt that the morning sunlight blurred his features, making it hard to decipher his expression. However, what he said seemed to be the truth.
Looking at Su Muyao, Mei Qingchen added, “Besides, you haven’t fixed my life-bound sword yet, and the effect of the prescription is uncertain. I can’t let you die, can I?”
As he spoke, his exquisite fingers, slender as plum branches, effortlessly toyed with the knife.
Watching him, Su Muyao thought his hands were beautiful and the knife looked very useful.
The Space System urged, “Host, take the knife! You won’t lose anything!”
“And he’s probably telling the truth. He likely saw Hua Linye get injured yesterday and felt the surroundings were unsafe, so he’s giving you this knife for self-defense.”
“He’s afraid you’ll die. If the prescription you gave really works and saves his mother, he really can’t let you die.”
Listening to the Space System’s analysis, Su Muyao felt it made sense.
Just as she was considering accepting it, Wen Nanxi returned.
He came over like a gust of wind, pulling Su Muyao into his arms to protect her.
Then, he glared at Mei Qingchen with dangerous eyes. “What do you want to do?”
“If you dare to do anything to Wife-master, I, Wen Nanxi, will fight you to the death.”
Usually gentle and elegant, Wen Nanxi now seemed to bristle with sharp thorns, his entire body radiating a dangerous, icy killing intent.
Mei Qingchen raised an eyebrow, his phoenix eyes looking at Su Muyao with a faint smile. “We were just talking.”
“Weren’t we, my Wife-master?”
It was the first time Mei Qingchen had called her “Wife-master.” The ending note rose, a tone that could easily enchant the soul. It sounded like a lover’s whisper.
Su Muyao, however, couldn’t help but shiver.
She was certain Mei Qingchen wanted to kill her and absolutely had no feelings for her. So, she felt he was plotting something.
Wen Nanxi held Su Muyao, feeling her slight tremble, and hugged her tighter. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here!”
A simple sentence, so gentle and warm, instantly soothed Su Muyao’s heart.
Her wariness deepened.
But she had also regained her composure.
“I will help you repair the life-bound sword, but I don’t want the knife.”
“I won’t accept a reward without merit.”
She didn’t even accept the crystal coins Wen Nanxi gave her; there was no reason to accept a dagger from Mei Qingchen.
No matter how good it was, she wouldn’t take it. The beauty was poisonous, and she didn’t trust the knife either, so she couldn’t use it without burden.
Besides, if she took his knife, wouldn’t it be impossible to sever ties with him? She didn’t want any relationship with Mei Qingchen.
Hearing her words, Mei Qingchen’s expression changed.
A clear brilliance flashed in his phoenix eyes before turning calm and cold.
He could tell she liked the knife and wanted it.
He hadn’t expected her to refuse.
She actually refused?
Mei Qingchen couldn’t quite believe it.
Wen Nanxi was also slightly surprised that Mei Qingchen wanted to give this mechanical magical artifact to Su Muyao, and that Su Muyao had refused it.
This mechanical knife was a treasure. Mei Qingchen never let it leave his side. It was said to be a birthday gift from his grandfather when he was young, holding extraordinary significance for him.
Now that Mei Qingchen’s grandfather was long gone, he was actually giving this knife to Su Muyao!
Or did Mei Qingchen intend to use the knife for something else?
Wen Nanxi knew how deep the grudge between Mei Qingchen and Su Muyao was, so he naturally didn’t believe they could get along peacefully.
Mei Qingchen let out a lazy laugh, put away the dagger, and said nothing more, leaving directly.
He didn’t even mention letting Su Muyao continue repairing the sword.
Su Muyao frowned at his retreating figure, feeling that he was acting strange today.
Wen Nanxi looked at Su Muyao with concern. “How are you? Are you alright?”
Su Muyao shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Wen Nanxi looked down at her. Although he had many doubts, he didn’t ask further.
He looked at the ground beneath her feet and said softly, “Do you need this land turned? Let me do it.”
Her strength was small, so doing this would be hard for her.
Su Muyao explained, “Mm, I was thinking of planting some vegetables and potatoes here. Once they grow, we can pick vegetables right at home to eat.”
“Also, there’s a large empty space behind our house. Can we fence it in and plant things there too?”
The place they lived in was on the northern edge of the tribe, with empty land behind it. Su Muyao felt that if they could utilize it, they should.
If they could grow more crops, they wouldn’t have to go to the forest every day.
Hearing Su Muyao’s words, Wen Nanxi realized she really intended to farm. It seemed what she said last night was true.
“Of course. I’ll find some stones later and build a wall in the back to make a backyard.”
Since she wanted to do this, he would support her. As long as she was happy.
Su Muyao’s eyes curved into a smile. “Can we make it a bit bigger?”
“I plan to raise some chickens and ducks later so we can have eggs anytime.”
She could also make salted duck eggs for pastries or dishes.
Seeing her happiness, Wen Nanxi’s gentle, picturesque features also filled with a smile. He said dotingly, “Okay.”
Next, after filling the water vat, Wen Nanxi began to turn the soil.
After cleaning up inside, Hua Linye came out to the yard to shell sunflower seeds. Since the sun was out, he also laid out the medicinal herbs to dry.
Xiao Jihan’s sugar boiling was a meticulous and time-consuming task, keeping him constantly busy.
Over the next few days, Wen Nanxi and the others indeed listened to Su Muyao’s arrangement and did not go into the forest.
They stayed home to help with the work.
The brown sugar was made, the sunflower seeds were roasted.
The wall in the back was built, enclosing a very large backyard.
They also finished turning the soil, making it convenient for Su Muyao to plant things.
Everything was progressing according to Su Muyao’s plan.
And during these days, Mei Qingchen did not return.
meanwhile, at the Mei Family in the Beast Imperial City.
A mechanical bird flew back to the Mei residence. Patriarch Mei immediately retrieved the letter carried by the bird.
It was written by Mei Qingchen in code. Only Patriarch Mei could understand it.
As he read the letter, a look of shock appeared on Patriarch Mei’s calm and composed face.
Initially, he was sitting while reading, but as he read on, even someone as composed as him couldn’t stay seated.
“Female… Purification Ability!”
“Curing fire poison…”
As Patriarch Mei read bit by bit, waves of shock surged in his heart. Even though he was mentally prepared, he was still astonished.
After a long while, he sighed with emotion, “Truly extraordinary!”
“The decision back then was indeed correct!”
It was a good thing he had married his son off to her. This was the revelation he had received from opening the Mei family altar.
“Prescription… right, the prescription!”
Patriarch Mei took the prescription and hurriedly summoned the Mei family’s private doctor to take a look.
After reading the prescription, the doctor’s hands began to tremble.
“Brilliant! Brilliant…”
The doctor exclaimed in excitement, looking at Patriarch Mei with fervent eyes. “May I ask the Patriarch, which senior wrote this prescription?”
