Chapter 026: Can You Give Me My Stamina Back?
Su Tang returned home in the biting wind. Knowing his constitution was prone to catching colds, he immediately took a hot bath, brewed himself a cup of ginger tea, and even rummaged through the medicine kit for a few cold tablets as a precaution.
After the excitement of finishing the exams faded, exhaustion set in.
Su Tang lay on the bed, his mind a blank slate. He couldn’t even recall what his last exam subject had been.
Soon, he groggily closed his eyes. Just before drifting off completely, he still remembered his promise to Mr. Ye for the evening, thinking that no matter what, he had to eat an extra piece of cake tonight.
He was burning up in a feverish daze when he heard someone calling him. It took a tremendous effort to open his eyes, but everything before him was foggy and indistinct.
His limbs felt like lead, and his ears seemed stuffed with cotton, muffling all sound. In his trance, he thought he saw Mr. Ye, but then felt he might just be dreaming.
“Mr. Ye…”
“Mmph… Mr. Ye… I feel so awful…”
He mumbled deliriously, reaching out in a panic to be held, but his arms had no strength; they fell back onto the bed as soon as he lifted them. He was so anxious he was on the verge of tears.
How could Ye Chiyu bear to let the little guy down? He immediately scooped him up from the bed and pulled him into his embrace.
“Shh, Tangtang, be good. I’m here.”
“Mr. Ye… huff… whimper…”
Su Tang’s small hand restlessly clutched the Alpha’s tie. His beautiful, delicate brows were knitted together in distress, and suddenly, he began to cry.
“Mr. Ye knows Tangtang feels terrible right now. I’ll take you to the hospital immediately, okay? Once we’re at the hospital, you won’t feel bad anymore, alright?”
Knowing the Omega couldn’t hear him clearly, Ye Chiyu still coaxed the weeping little bundle in his arms with gentle patience.
His Tangtang probably didn’t know that seeing those tears made Mr. Ye’s heart ache so much it felt like it was breaking.
Every breath the little guy exhaled was scorching hot. The high fever had even triggered Su Tang’s self-protection mechanism as an Omega; the gland at the back of his neck began automatically releasing his primal pheromones in an attempt to attract an Alpha’s attention.
“Damn it.”
Releasing primal pheromones was extremely draining for an Omega, taking a heavy toll on the body. For an Alpha, it was no different from the most potent aphrodisiac.
His body reacted instantly. His blood and nerves buzzed with excitement, the arteries in his neck throbbing. The Alpha’s body temperature rose sharply as instinct drove him to get closer, to conquer and claim the Omega tempting him.
Ye Chiyu cursed under his breath. Without hesitation, he grabbed an Alpha-use suppressant from the bedside table and injected it into his own arm. Half a minute later, as the drug took effect, he panted heavily while wrapping Su Tang tightly in a blanket, then rushed him to the hospital as fast as possible.
In the car, he released some soothing pheromones for Su Tang to alleviate the Omega’s physical discomfort.
Although the little guy had stopped crying, he was so weak he couldn’t sit up in the passenger seat and kept slumping over.
So, Ye Chiyu had to drive with one hand while using the other to support Su Tang, preventing him from falling and feeling even worse.
Unable to bear the intense heat ravaging his body, the little guy let out pained groans, clutching his chest and struggling to breathe.
By the time Ye Chiyu carried him out of the car and placed him on the gurney, Su Tang had burned into complete unconsciousness. His Omega pheromones were spilling out uncontrollably. The ECG monitor showed a severe arrhythmia, and his blood pressure was too low to measure, startling the emergency doctors.
Ye Chiyu sat outside, waiting in a trancelike state. His clothes were stained with the bitter scent of the Omega’s pheromones and the tears that had dripped onto him. Every trace was driving the Alpha to the brink of madness.
When the little guy fell ill, he hadn’t been by his side immediately.
If he had come home a little earlier, if he had noticed something was wrong with Su Tang’s health sooner, things wouldn’t have escalated to this critical point.
Immersed in regret, the Alpha’s numb expression didn’t crack until the emergency room doors reopened. Seeing the tiny Su Tang lying on the hospital bed hooked up to an IV, his face finally softened.
Ye Chiyu rushed over, gently holding the little hand that was ice-cold from the infusion. Feeling the little guy’s breathing finally stabilize, he cherished the moment like he had found a treasure, unable to take his eyes off Su Tang.
Su Tang was transferred directly to a VIP ward. After Ye Chiyu and the nurse settled him in, Su Tang’s attending physician arrived.
Ye Chiyu held a prominent status, naturally carrying the arrogance of someone in a high position.
Dr. Chen glanced at the hospital’s major shareholder, feeling a bit intimidated. However, seeing the incredibly tender look in Ye Chiyu’s eyes as he gazed at his Omega, he realized that even the coldest person has a soft spot.
Ye Chiyu used a water-moistened cotton swab to wet Su Tang’s lips, then looked up and asked, “Dr. Chen, tell me. What’s the situation?”
Dr. Chen adjusted his glasses and looked at the medical record. “Mr. Su’s high fever this time was partly due to catching a cold, but it was primarily caused by the bonding fever from the initial marking.”
In this world, some Omegas experienced a rejection reaction when an Alpha’s pheromones were injected into their bloodstream during bonding, causing a mutation response.
Omegas with mild symptoms might develop rashes or slight allergies. In severe cases, like Su Tang’s, sudden high fever accompanied by palpitations and shortness of breath could occur. If not treated in time, it could even lead to death.
Fortunately, modern medicine had sufficient diagnostic and treatment methods for these cases. Su Tang’s blood test immediately showed clear signs of bonding fever, which helped the doctors quickly bring his temperature under control.
Ye Chiyu frowned, puzzled. “Doesn’t bonding fever only happen within the first week of marking?”
Worried about this exact scenario, he had people closely monitor Su Tang’s health during that first week. But the little guy had been lively and healthy for so long that he had gradually let his guard down.
“Generally, that is the case,” Dr. Chen nodded, explaining further. “Actually, a very small number of people experience delayed bonding fever, but the probability is extremely low—only one in three hundred thousand.”
With such slim odds, his little Omega just had to be the unlucky one.
Upon hearing the news, Su Bing came to see Su Tang. Seeing that her brother was fine, she sat for a while, instructed Ye Chiyu to take good care of him, and left.
It wasn’t until past three in the morning that Su Tang groggily woke up. His Alpha was holding his hand, unwilling to let go.
Su Tang looked at his Alpha, whose red-rimmed eyes looked like he might cry at any moment. biting his lip, his face pale, he whined softly in a sticky, sweet voice.
“Mr. Ye, hug… want a hug…”
His Alpha immediately pulled him into his arms.
Learning that he had nearly lost his little life, the Omega began to whimper and snuggle into the Alpha’s embrace, his long legs wrapping around the Alpha’s lean waist, arms clinging to the Alpha’s neck, refusing to let go.
“Tangtang, you’re still very weak right now…”
“Mr. Ye,” the little Omega’s voice was soft and sweet as he lightly pecked the Alpha’s eyelid. “I’ve overdrawn my stamina just from kissing you.”
“So, can you kiss me back and give me my stamina back?”
