[ABO] After Accidental Marking, I Became Everyone’s Darling chapter 140

Chapter 140

Both Xiao Xiao and the doctor froze. Neither of them had expected Gu Qian to react like this.

Xiao Xiao started, “That’s—that’s your psychologist, you…”

He wanted to tell Gu Qian it was his psychologist and that he needed to sit down for his session. But before he could finish, Gu Qian got up and stumbled away, looking completely out of it.

The doctor sighed with regret. “He’s too drunk. We can’t do the session. We’ll try tomorrow.”

He said it, but he was already backing toward the door. His sharp eyes had spotted Gu Qian staggering over to the liquor cabinet and pulling out a bottle of red wine. The doctor instantly had a bad feeling. Gu Qian might be mentally ill and unreasonable when he got stubborn, but as long as he was sober, the doctor could handle him. Right now, though, Gu Qian was so drunk he couldn’t even recognize people. There was nothing he could do.

The moment he saw Gu Qian grab the bottle, he was sure Gu Qian was about to attack him. He turned and bolted.

Xiao Xiao was wondering why the doctor was suddenly running when he turned and saw Gu Qian coming toward them, bottle in hand, murder in his eyes. From the look of it, he was planning to smash the bottle over the doctor’s head.

Xiao Xiao panicked, rushing over to grab Gu Qian’s arm. “What are you doing?” he asked frantically.

“He came here on his own,” Gu Qian said coldly. “He’s not leaving today.”

Xiao Xiao instinctively glanced at the doctor by the door. He suspected the two had some kind of grudge. He wasn’t as strong as Gu Qian; even though he was holding on, Gu Qian was still moving forward.

The doctor, meanwhile, had reached the door only to realize he needed a passcode to get out. His heart sank. Seeing Gu Qian getting closer, he yelled, “Mr. Xiao, tell me the code, quick! If I don’t get out now, I’m a dead man!”

He did not want to get his head bashed in.

“Ninety-three—mmph!”

Xiao Xiao didn’t want the doctor to get hurt, so he started to yell out the code. But he’d only gotten two numbers out before Gu Qian wrapped an arm around him and clamped a hand over his mouth. He thought Gu Qian was having another episode and stared at him in terror, but Gu Qian just said, “How can you tell an outsider our family’s passcode? You can’t! Just you watch. Once I get rid of him, you’ll be all mine.”

The doctor was speechless. While Gu Qian was ranting at Xiao Xiao, he found a room and hid inside.

In his drunken state, Gu Qian had mistaken the doctor for Li Jie. He had wanted to make a move on Li Jie for a long time but hadn’t dared. He was afraid Xiao Xiao would get angry. But even so, his resentment and hatred for Li Jie hadn’t lessened in the slightest; in fact, it had only grown.

His mind was consumed with the thought of killing Li Jie. After speaking, he let go of Xiao Xiao, turned, and brandished the bottle. “You dare bite him,” he slurred as he walked, “I’ll knock out all your teeth… Where’d he go?”

Gu Qian looked around the entrance, but the man was gone. He stood there, holding the bottle, completely lost.

Xiao Xiao let out a breath of relief. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and snapped through gritted teeth, “There’s no one here! You saw wrong! Now get over here and go to sleep!”

With that, he stormed off into the bedroom.

Gu Qian froze for a second, then casually tossed the bottle aside. It shattered with a crash, red wine spilling all over the floor. But Gu Qian didn’t seem to notice. He just chased after Xiao Xiao into the room.

A moment later, a blushing Xiao Xiao came out, stuck a sticky note with the passcode on the door, and then went back inside.

The doctor had been hiding for a long time. Gu Qian was famously unhinged; even as his psychologist, the doctor wasn’t willing to take any chances. He had to hide. After a little while, he heard amorous sounds coming from the next room and knew exactly what Gu Qian and Xiao Xiao were doing.

He straightened his clothes and walked out of the room. “So what am I supposed to do?” he grumbled.

Not only did he try to hit me, but now he’s just ditched me to get his rocks off!

The doctor was fuming. “They have me doing this dangerous job. If my salary isn’t doubled, I’m quitting.” If he hadn’t been so quick on his feet, his head would have been split open by now.

The doctor had been prepared to wait until Gu Qian had finished his business and fallen asleep, at which point Xiao Xiao would come out and give him the code. But his sharp eyes spotted a small note on the master bedroom door. He hurried over and, sure enough, saw the passcode.

With a grimace, he finally left.

It was late at night when Xiao Xiao woke up. He turned and saw Gu Qian sound asleep beside him. This was a rare sight. Most of the time when he woke up, Gu Qian was already gone—either cooking for him, doing something else, or not home at all. He was rarely still in bed. He knew it was because Gu Qian was drunk.

He was hungry. But he also felt exhausted and didn’t want to move, let alone get up to cook. So, he just lay there, watching Gu Qian.

He didn’t know how much time had passed before Gu Qian finally opened his eyes. Seeing Xiao Xiao staring at him, he immediately pulled him into his arms. His voice was husky with sleep. “Why are you staring at me?”

“I’m hungry,” Xiao Xiao said.

Gu Qian froze, then rubbed his temples. A few seconds later, he said, “What do you want to eat? I’ll make it for you.”

Xiao Xiao thought for a moment. “I want pumpkin porridge,” he said in a small voice.

“Okay.”

Gu Qian’s head still throbbed from the alcohol, but he remembered most of what had happened. He could deal with the doctor later, but not Xiao Xiao. He couldn’t let his baby go hungry.

When Xiao Xiao got out of bed, Gu Qian was just coming out of the kitchen. He deliberately ignored the mess in the living room, walked over, and lifted Xiao Xiao onto the sofa. “Did I scare you yesterday?” he asked in a low voice.

“Yeah,” Xiao Xiao said. “I thought you were going to kill someone.”

“I wouldn’t.” Gu Qian smiled. “I was just drunk and messing around. You know how territorial alphas can be. I was drunk, I lost control.”

“I-I know.” Xiao Xiao nodded. He understood enough about that; he didn’t need Gu Qian to explain. As long as Gu Qian wasn’t committing murder or having a psychotic break, anything he did seemed normal in his eyes.

Gu Qian knew his baby wouldn’t blame him. He held him close. “I saw some news while I was making the porridge,” he whispered. “It looks like things on An Le’s end are… resolved.”

Hearing An Le’s name, Xiao Xiao’s eyes lit up, and he was instantly alert. “You’re saying he succeeded?”

“Yes.” Gu Qian sounded resigned. “I gave Lu Heng some evidence the day before yesterday. Gu Chen has been arrested. His trial is tomorrow.”

Once the verdict was in, the Gu family’s assets would be liquidated. A lot of people in the Gu family were going to fall. Only he, only he could emerge from it all completely clean, still standing tall.

“Gu Chen was arrested!”

Xiao Xiao excitedly pulled out his phone, wanting to call An Le and find out what was going on. But when he unlocked it, he saw it was already three in the morning. If he called now, he would definitely wake him up. After a moment’s hesitation, he put the phone away. “I’ll call Lele tomorrow and ask,” he said quietly.

“Okay,” Gu Qian said.

Gu Qian didn’t feel much about the collapse of his family, but seeing Xiao Xiao so happy made him happy, too.

Xiao Xiao was thrilled for a while. It wasn’t until Gu Qian set him down and went to the kitchen to bring him a bowl of porridge that he remembered something. “Gu Chen was arrested, and the Gu family is in trouble. Aren’t… aren’t you sad?”

Gu Qian was Gu Chen’s son. With his father arrested, it was impossible for him not to be sad, right?

But the moment he asked, Gu Qian just laughed. “Why would I be sad? Xiao Xiao, he wasn’t a good father, and he certainly wasn’t a good husband. I can forgive him for what he did to me. After all, he’s my father, I’m his son. It’s only right. I can choose to forgive him. But what he did to my mother… I will never forgive that.”

Gu Qian carefully stirred the pumpkin porridge. “So, I’m not sad that he’s in trouble. I don’t care that the Gu family has fallen and its assets have been seized, because that’s all his dirty money. I don’t want it.”

He didn’t want any of it, and neither would any of the other messy relatives in the Gu family. So, he was more than happy to see the court seize it all.

Xiao Xiao was stunned. He’d never imagined Gu Qian felt this way about Gu Chen. He had always thought he was like this because he was sick, a madman. But now, it seemed there were reasons for it. And he agreed with what Gu Qian said—Gu Chen’s money was dirty.

But…

Xiao Xiao looked up and asked seriously, “His money is dirty, but… what about yours?”

“Mine?” Gu Qian smiled. “My sweet Xiao Xiao, haven’t I told you before that I never do anything illegal?”

Gu Qian placed the porridge he had been stirring—now the perfect temperature, not too hot, not too cold—in front of Xiao Xiao. He then took the bowl that had been in front of Xiao Xiao and continued to stir. “Just like Lu Heng,” he explained, “I started investing when I was a teenager and eventually started my own company, making my way in the business world. None of my assets are connected to Gu Chen. My start-up money all came from my mom.”

Gu Chen had plenty of illegitimate children, but his possessiveness was so strong that none of them had ever been publicly acknowledged. At first, Gu Chen hadn’t treated him well, either. He and his mother were both neglected and abused. It was only after he had made a name for himself in business and accumulated a massive fortune that Gu Chen had started to see him in a different light. Otherwise, how could a family of high-ranking officials have made such waves in the business world? It was all Gu Qian’s doing.

Gu Qian knew what Xiao Xiao was worried about. “You don’t have to worry about me, Xiao Xiao,” he said with a lighthearted smile. “I won’t be sad about what’s happening to him. And as for my money, you don’t have to worry about where it came from. It’s all clean. I promise.”
