Chapter 33: I’m Working Hard to Make Them Unable to Afford Me
The second phone call interrupting President Shou’s vegetable chewing came from Director Yong of “Dentsu,” Yong Ming.
He said: “President Shou, you’re still in ‘San Fran,’ right? Come out and meet, have something to tell you.”
His tone was carefree, still annoying.
Shou Jiaxun lied to perfunctory him: “Already on the way to the airport, chat when we meet in Beijing.”
At this time, a text message also came into Liang Bo’s phone, asking: “Why did you leave just after returning to China?”
Liang Bo looked up to steal a glance at Shou Jiaxun. Seeing he was still wrangling with Yong Ming, he withdrew his gaze to focus on replying to the text: “I’m with Shou Jiaxun, General Manager of ‘Indeed’. They are preparing to go public.”
The other party quickly pursued: “When?”
Liang Bo replied: “Not clear yet, but will know soon.
Our next stop is ‘NASDAQ’, then ‘HKEX’. By the time I get back, I should be able to give you an accurate answer.”
โ”Mmhmm.”
Liang Bo added a reply: “I have confidence.”
The other party was finally moved: “You speak more and more like your father now, but do what you are capable of.”
Liang Bo sent a cartoon emoji of two little yellow ducks walking with heads held high, acting cute: “Tiger father has no dog son.”
After Shou Jiaxun hung up, he hurriedly shoveled two more mouthfuls of vegetables, folded the fried egg, and stuffed it into his mouth. Waiting for Liang Bo to put down his phone, he immediately reminded: “Eat fast, meet Yong Ming at the airport later.”
“Mmhmm, mmhmm.” Assistant Liang was as obedient as a big dog. Hearing this, he immediately stuffed a large piece of beef into his mouth and chewed vigorously, only suddenly realizing when swallowing to his throat: “Cough umโYong Ming? Why?”
Shou Jiaxun put down his fork and wiped his mouth: “He has a cooperation plan. We can take down the order for ‘Huancheng’ together with ‘Dentsu’.”
Liang Bo nodded: “Got it.” Then continued to speed up eating.
Qualified businessmen talk business in business settings; generally, they don’t take personal grudges too seriously.
From this perspective, Shou Jiaxun was more “professional” than Yong Ming.
This was probably also why President Shou could be his own boss early on, while President Yong could only work for others.
Although currently, one was the “chicken’s head” and the other the “ox’s rump,” comparing comprehensive industry influence, President Yong was actually stronger.
But fundamentally, Yong Ming would at most reach a Greater China executive position at “Dentsu”; whereas once Shou Jiaxun’s “Indeed Trade” went public, the development space would have no upper limit.
At that time, the difficulty of acquiring the “Indeed Brand” would also multiply infinitely.
Assistant Liang checked in the two large pieces of luggage and returned to the waiting hall. Shou Jiaxun and Yong Ming were already sitting in the bustling waiting area, having started business negotiation mode.
It wasn’t that the airport didn’t have relatively private quiet spaces for people to rest and talk, but Shou Jiaxun insisted on chatting with Yong Ming in an open environment. Presumably, Yong Ming knew very well why in his heart.
However, talking in this kind of place was quite awkward. Because if voices were low, the other party couldn’t hear; if loud, the whole waiting area could hear.
The volume was really hard to control.
After Assistant Liang returned to his seat, he immediately placed the thermos cup by President Shou’s hand, reminding warmly: “Dry weather, drink more water.”
He held another “couple’s model” himself, sitting quietly by the side with a smile to wait for the flight.
Yong Ming glanced at him expressionlessly, then continued to explain to Shou Jiaxun his ideas on how to divide the “Huancheng Electric” marketing market.
Director Yong had worked in large companies for more than ten years. Although he didn’t distinguish between human and beast when going crazy, when he focused on business, he was quite professional.
Clear logic, concise language, well-founded causes and effects; from the gradually pleasant expression on Shou Jiaxun’s face, it was evident the relationship between the two had eased again.
Assistant Liang acted as a qualified countdown clock on the side, occasionally speaking only: “President Shou, we have about half an hour before boarding.”
Ten minutes later, reminding again: “About twenty minutes left.”
At the last ten minutes, Shou Jiaxun finally smiled broadly and took the initiative to extend his hand: “Then I wish us a happy cooperation in advance. Look forward to seeing your brand new proposal soon, and I will cooperate to make adjustments here at that time.”
Yong Ming shook hands with him. This time he didn’t make any deviant moves. Afterwards, he instructed the subordinate beside him: “Go buy a few cups of coffee… get juice for President Shou, fresh squeezed.”
Shou Jiaxun picked up the thermos cup with a smile to decline: “Many thanks, I switched to drinking goji berries.”
Yong Ming didn’t talk nonsense, just waved his hand at the subordinate, seemingly just wanting to send the person away.
Sure enough, once those two walked far away, he turned halfway sideways, frowning with a prudent expression to question Shou Jiaxun: “Do you know why everyone likes to discuss you behind your back?”
Shou Jiaxun rested his elbows on the seat armrests, looking calm and casually playing along: “Why?”
But asking didn’t mean he was willing to listen to the other party’s nonsense answers, so without waiting for Yong Ming to respond, he stood up and instructed Liang Bo: “You watch the luggage here, I’m going to the toilet.”
Said and walked, not giving Yong Ming a chance to start a discussion on non-work topics at all.
A trace of thin anger appeared on Yong Ming’s face. He chased quickly, as if he would suffocate if he didn’t speak the words in his stomach, and his voice involuntarily rose a bit: “Because the wind destroys the tree that stands out in the forest; the crowd criticizes the one who walks above others! Everyone constantly fantasizes, speculates, and obsesses over things they want but can’t get!
I tell you, I’ve heard words uglier than yesterday’s. Their mouths are cheap! But you also have responsibility yourself. The way you are now is constantly helping them create topics for gossip.”
Shou Jiaxun didn’t stop walking, curling his lip in disapproval to retort: “Drop it. The atmosphere was corrupted by you, and the cheapest mouth is also yours; if you could say a few words less, I’d immediately go to the temple to burn incense and thank the gods.”
Yong Ming suddenly quickened two steps to block right in front of Shou Jiaxun, raising three fingers like an idiot to swear: “Let’s be clear! I, Yong Ming, have a cheap mouth, but I only say it to faces, never discussing others behind their backs.”
Shou Jiaxun stepped back half a step in embarrassment, raising a hand to cover his forehead, wishing he could draw a clear line with the other party immediately and say he didn’t know this person. He asked, torn between laughter and tears: “Who can I reason with? Should I also leave a note saying ‘Gossip is a fearful thing’ and then ‘off’ myself?”
Saying this, he reached out to press down Yong Ming’s “swearing” arm, advising earnestly: “Big Brother, I know you are a good person, the words are rough but the logic isn’t rough, I understand the principles. But the social atmosphere is just like this now.
Those who come out to mix, either think openly or die far away; I don’t even care myself, what kind of idle worry are you bothering with?”
“You really don’t care? Really don’t care at all?” Director Yong looked depressed, questioning in a deep voice: “Yesterday you heard them say those words, weren’t uncomfortable, awkward, disgusted?”
Shou Jiaxun grinned, putting on a dejected face: “Then what can I do? If I sew their mouths shut, they’d call the police!”
Yong Ming took a deep breath, offering advice righteously: “Of course you should hurry up and get married! A thirty-something Omega, no man, no family, no children, showing your face all day long, who else would they talk about if not you?
I tell you, wait a few more years, if you’re still like this at forty, only more people will talk about you, and say even uglier things!”
Shou Jiaxun glared anxiously at the middle-aged Alpha in front of him: “Yes! You’re right, so I am working hard!”
Yong Ming was stunned, his facial features showing a bit of blankness, even his tone suddenly weakened a few degrees: “Working hard on blind dates to find a man?”
President Shou glared indignantly: “Bullshit, I’m working hard to make myself unaffordable to them!” After speaking, he waved his hand to forcefully shoo away the middle-aged Alpha half a head taller than him: “Don’t block my way to the toilet.”
