Part 2
“I noticed too. I heard there’s a company headquarters dinner tonight, and President Gu is covering everyone’s expenses.”
“Wait, could this be the calm before the storm?”
“Maybe President Gu is just in a really good mood.”
Yan Yang knocked twice on the office door. Seeing that Gu Lin wasn’t busy, he walked in on his own and teased, “Yo, President Gu, the whole company is buzzing, saying you’re in a particularly good mood today.” Yan Yang walked to the desk, propped himself on it, and extended his hand to Gu Lin. “Then shouldn’t we settle that five-million-dollar bet of ours?”
Gu Lin held a document in his hand, his legs crossed, leaning back in his chair. Without even turning his head, he took out a card and casually tossed it to Yan Yang.
Yan Yang caught the card happily. “President Gu is so generous.”
Yan Yang put the card away and asked about the aftermath of last night’s confession. Only then did Gu Lin finally spare Yan Yang a glance. “Yan Yang, are you too free?”
Yan Yang knew what was up. If it were any other time, when Gu Lin said this, he would have already been kicked out. But now, Yan Yang looked at his friend, whose face was glowing with happiness, and thought of everything he should and shouldn’t have.
Then, he patted his boss’s shoulder and said, “Not bad, not bad!”
Gu Lin slapped his hand away. “Go get busy.”
Yan Yang pretended to be wronged. “I finished my work before I came over.”
“Huh? Wait a minute.” Yan Yang noticed Gu Lin’s bare fingers. He asked curiously, “Where’s the ring? Your engagement ring?”
“Engagement…”
Seeing Gu Lin’s confused face, Yan Yang was filled with disappointment. “Damn, didn’t little chicken-coop head propose to you last night? He was holding a ring. The ring, where’s the ring?”
At Yan Yang’s words, Gu Lin finally remembered that last night when Lin Zheng knelt on one knee, he did seem to have taken out something that looked like a ring. But he had been too shocked at the time, busy pulling the person into his arms, completely ignoring what Lin Zheng was holding.
Later, when they left, he remembered to pick up the flowers at his feet, but he hadn’t noticed any ring anywhere.
And…
Gu Lin: “…Proposal? That was… a proposal?”
Yan Yang was speechless. “Gu Lin, you’re being a bit unreasonable. You’ve forgotten what happened just last night? Or do you just not care about little chicken-coop head’s proposal? Wait, are you trying to make him propose to you again?”
Gu Lin looked away. He found it hard to describe his current mood.
Last night, everything had happened too shockingly. His eyes were only filled with Lin Zheng’s figure, and he hadn’t thought that he had unintentionally overlooked something so important.
He thought it was just a simple confession, but it was actually Lin Zheng’s impromptu proposal.
Proposal, ring…
Gu Lin stood up from his seat.
Yan Yang watched as he walked towards the door and asked, “Where are you going?”
Gu Lin: “Out for a bit.”
At home, Lin Zheng supported himself on the wall, walking from one end of the living room to the other, muttering curses at Gu Lin.
It was only a few steps, but thanks to a certain someone, he was walking with extreme difficulty.
If he had known this would be the situation the next day, he would have died before softening his heart and approaching Gu Lin last night.
He felt like his back was about to break.
He was clearly not even thirty, yet he inexplicably felt the fatigue of someone in their forties or fifties.
Sunlight streamed in through the window, shining on his bare legs.
His stomach grumbled.
It was almost noon. He had slept until now, not even knowing when Gu Lin had left this morning. He only vaguely remembered being kissed on the face in the morning. He knew who it was, of course. Thinking about it, it was indeed time to be hungry.
Dragging his snail-like steps into the kitchen, he saw a sticky note on the refrigerator. Following the instructions on the note, Lin Zheng opened the fridge and saw the prepared food inside, along with a dessert on the top shelf.
His mood instantly brightened.
He happily took out the dessert from the top shelf, only to find another sticky note on the box that read: “Can only eat at night.”
Lin Zheng: “…”
The bright mood instantly vanished.
Come on, if you’re not going to let me eat it now, don’t put it where I can see it! Hide it! Hide it!!
Lin Zheng put the dessert back and took out the congee from the middle shelf.
Following the instructions, soon, Lin Zheng was enjoying his first mouthful of hot, fragrant congee.
To be honest, it looked simple, with nothing in it, but it was surprisingly delicious.
Gu Lin’s cooking was really not bad at all.
It would be great if he could cook for him every day.
At this thought, Lin Zheng suddenly felt that the days to come were worth looking forward to.
After eating and washing the bowl, he came out to the living room. Just as he was about to go back and lie down for a while, he heard the door open.
The door was pushed open, and Gu Lin’s face came into view.
Perhaps because he had just been thinking about Gu Lin, and then Gu Lin appeared before him, Lin Zheng suddenly felt very happy. “Gu Lin!” He completely forgot how he had been cursing Gu Lin while supporting himself on the wall as he walked out of the bedroom just now.
He walked towards Gu Lin, but he was moving too slowly. Gu Lin came to him first. Seeing his bare legs, Gu Lin immediately picked him up, walking towards the sofa as he said, “Why did you come out with bare legs?”
Saying that, he picked up a thin blanket from the sofa and covered Lin Zheng’s legs.
Lin Zheng wrapped his arms around Gu Lin’s neck and leaned against his chest. “It’s not cold.”
Gu Lin sat down on the sofa with him in his arms, confirmed that Lin Zheng was not feeling unwell before letting him stay like that. Seeing Lin Zheng’s red lips, he asked, “Have you eaten?”
Lin Zheng nodded vigorously.
Gu Lin leaned closer and asked, “Was it good?”
Lin Zheng nodded again, then thought for a moment and voiced his thoughts. “Can you cook for me often in the future? I want to eat more delicious food. I want to order dishes.”
“Of course,” Gu Lin rubbed his forehead against his head. “In front of you, I can be a chef, or any other role, as long as you like.”
Lin Zheng’s heart felt warm.
He picked up Gu Lin’s large hand and placed his own on top of it.
Before staying here, he had thought a lot. Lin Zheng had grown up with his younger brother, relying on each other. He had always felt that his brother was his only spiritual support, because he was family, because he made him feel warmth. He thought he would never feel that close to anyone else in his life. But then he met Gu Lin. At first, his impression of Gu Lin wasn’t good, even a little hostile. But later, he was attracted by Gu Lin’s gentleness and persistence. He was moved countless times by Gu Lin’s kindness, his concern, his pampering. He only then realized that there was someone in this world who could make him feel like he was being held in the palm of their hand, giving him endless security, letting him experience what happiness was.
He had been completely spoiled by Gu Lin.
He felt he could no longer leave Gu Lin.
In his original world, the person Lin Zheng couldn’t let go of was his brother. But before he left, his brother had already returned to the family that should have been his. He had seen them; those parents were good people. They had only been separated from their child for years because they had accidentally lost him. They were very kind people, so he could rest assured. He knew that even without him, his brother would have a good life in the future. He knew his brother would be sad after he left, but now, the wound has probably healed and scabbed over. Wounds will always heal one day. Now, he will love his parents, and in the future, he will meet someone he likes and live happily with them for the rest of his life.
And here, he also had someone he loved, and who loved him deeply.
He drew circles on Gu Lin’s palm with his finger. “Gu Lin, someone once said that meeting someone in this life is a blessing from the last life,” he looked up at Gu Lin, “Do you believe that?”
Gu Lin lowered his eyes, looked at him, and slowly raised his lips. “I believe.”
Lin Zheng smiled and leaned back against the broad chest. “I believe it too.”
Lin Zheng played with Gu Lin’s fingers and confessed, “I don’t regret staying at all. Because the thought of missing you makes my heart ache so much, it’s like I can’t breathe. And the thought of you with someone else is even more heartbreaking. I can’t accept it at all.”
Gu Lin listened and couldn’t help but laugh. “What crazy things has my little rabbit been thinking about while I’m away?”
“So don’t leave me alone for too long. Can you… can you love me a little more?”
Seeing Lin Zheng’s wronged expression, Gu Lin’s heart was moved, and he pecked him on the nose.
Gu Lin had never been interested in love.
If the only person who had ever moved his heart left, he would just go back to his original state.
He wouldn’t be with anyone else.
Nor would he have any plans to spend his life with anyone.
Only Lin Zheng could move his heart, could make him open up and show his true self.
No one else.
Gu Lin answered Lin Zheng’s question from just now: “But what can I do? I can’t give you even a little bit more.”
Seeing Lin Zheng’s pouting lips, Gu Lin smiled and finished his sentence: “Who told me to give you all my love already? I can’t even spare a little bit.”
Lin Zheng: “…”
Lin Zheng mercilessly gave Gu Lin’s chest a hard thump.
Serves you right for being cheeky!
Gu Lin pretended to be in pain, which made Lin Zheng laugh.
Remembering something, Gu Lin picked up Lin Zheng’s hand. Seeing that he wasn’t wearing anything on his hand either, he tried to make his question sound natural. “By the way, last night, the ring you gave me…”
Before he could finish, Lin Zheng nodded in response. “Yes, what about the ring?”
Gu Lin deliberately asked, “Where’s yours?”
Lin Zheng raised his hand and said happily, “On my hand…”
Just as he said that, he noticed there was nothing on his finger.
Lin Zheng was completely bewildered. “Huh?”
He looked at Gu Lin and asked seriously, “You didn’t put a ring on my finger last night?”
Gu Lin didn’t dare to say a word.
Lin Zheng grabbed Gu Lin’s hand and looked at it. There was nothing on it either.
The memories of last night suddenly flooded back.
Lin Zheng looked at Gu Lin with a dumbfounded expression. “Crap, I think our rings are still at the bar.”
Author’s Note: A certain Mr. Gu instantly breathed a sigh of relief, thinking to himself, at least it wasn’t him who lost it.
