After Being Mistaken for His Boyfriend by His Amnesiac Childhood Friend CHAPTER 6
Chapter 6
“The patient’s head suffered a blow during the accident, which caused temporary traumatic amnesia.”
Jian Huaiyi looked through the window at Liang Xun in the ward, then turned to the doctor: “Can the lost memories be recovered?”
“We can’t guarantee that. Generally, memories that are deeply ingrained are easier to recall.”
After a short chat with the doctor, Jian Huaiyi had a general understanding of Liang Xun’s condition.
Jian Huaiyi opened the ward door and handed Liang Xun a phone.
“Your old phone was damaged in the accident. Use this as a temporary replacement.”
Liang Xun took it. The phone wasn’t password-protected. He swiped the screen, and the bold time appeared: September 15, 2030.
Whoa.
Liang Xun frowned, hearing Jian Huaiyi’s voice.
“As you can see, Liang Xun, you have amnesia.”
Liang Xun put the phone aside. His expression remained impassive, seeming to accept the amnesia well.
“How old are you now?” Jian Huaiyi asked, needing to confirm where Liang Xun’s memory ended.
Liang Xun glanced up, looking at the twenty-five-year-old Jian Huaiyi. He seemed unchanged from when he was eighteen.
But…the eighteen-year-old Jian Huaiyi wouldn’t dress so plainly.
A light-colored shirt and jeans – as the eighteen-year-old Jian Huaiyi would describe it: “Elementary school attire.”
When they were eighteen, Liang Xun and Jian Huaiyi weren’t as close as they are now; they were barely acquaintances.
They truly became good brothers in college. A group project brought them together. They surprisingly discovered that someone they previously looked down upon shared their mindset.
For example, club activities were a waste of time (at the time, one was the president of the basketball club, the other the photography club). And, for group projects, whoever was more efficient did more work.
For the first time, the two, who frequently saw each other at the Jian residence, truly saw each other.
Male friendships form quickly. The two hit it off, and rode back to the Jian residence in the same car that night.
Liang Xun quickly processed the fact that he had amnesia and replied calmly: “I have no memories from age eighteen to the present.”
Jian Huaiyi nodded. Compared to Liang Xun’s composure, he seemed more worried.
“Do you remember anything about last night?”
According to the security footage obtained by Butler Liu, the white car that hit Liang Xun likely did so intentionally.
He didn’t know much about Liang Xun’s life abroad, nor did he know if he had made any enemies while starting his company overseas.
Ripples appeared in Liang Xun’s usually still black eyes, and his gaze towards Jian Huaiyi became unreadable.
Jian Huaiyi realized how stupid his question was.
Liang Xun had amnesia, and he asked about last night.
How could he remember?
“I remember,” Liang Xun said.
Jian Huaiyi blinked in confusion, then heard Liang Xun say: “Last night, we were at a hotel.”
“A hotel?”
Jian Huaiyi carefully recalled if he and Liang Xun had been to a hotel on his eighteenth birthday. He couldn’t remember anything.
They were too unfamiliar back then to have any reason to meet privately.
“Are you sure it was a hotel?” Jian Huaiyi raised an eyebrow, his light brown eyes reflecting Liang Xun’s.
Liang Xun tilted his head slightly, starting to think after Jian Huaiyi’s question. After a moment, he pursed his lips and suddenly realized:
“Last night…it was Jian family property.”
They weren’t on the same wavelength. Jian Huaiyi quickly realized this, stopped reminiscing, and directly asked Liang Xun what happened last night.
Jian Huaiyi was open and unafraid, while Liang Xun’s lips were flat, his voice uninflected.
“Wasn’t last night our first time?”
“What first time?” Jian Huaiyi was even more confused.
If it were the eighteen-year-old Jian Huaiyi, he would have crossed his arms and only allow Liang Xun two sentences to explain. After two sentences, regardless of whether he had finished his explanation or not, Jian Huaiyi would have left.
He wouldn’t waste time on someone with communication difficulties.
Liang Xun’s pale skin flushed slightly. He paused, as if making a decision.
“On your eighteenth birthday, we slept together,” Liang Xun looked at Jian Huaiyi, his bright black eyes gleaming, his gaze inching across Jian Huaiyi’s face.
Unexpected surprise, and some disbelief.
Jian Huaiyi’s breath hitched. Slept… together?
His eighteenth birthday, and his eighteenth birthday, seemed different.
No, they had slept together, but not on his eighteenth birthday, but a few days ago.
Jian Huaiyi suppressed his emotions, maintaining his composure and asking Liang Xun: “Liang Xun, what’s our relationship?” He keenly sensed that Liang Xun’s situation was more than just amnesia.
Liang Xun’s eyes were dark. He said: “It’s me who has amnesia, isn’t it, Jian Huaiyi?”
Of course, it’s you!
Otherwise, it was unimaginable that these words came from the mouth of the twenty-something Liang Xun.
Jian Huaiyi poured himself a glass of water to calm his nerves.
“Ex-boyfriend,” Liang Xun said flatly.
“Cough, cough, cough.”
Jian Huaiyi choked on the water, his cold eyes filled with water, his eye sockets red from coughing.
Ex-boyfriend? Except for the last word, which of those words had anything to do with him and Liang Xun?
“Liang Xun, I think you might not have amnesia,” Jian Huaiyi forcefully maintained his composure.
Something is definitely wrong with his head.
Liang Xun sneered: “Jian Huaiyi, if you want to break up, just say it. You don’t need to use this method.”
Jian Huaiyi finally understood.
Liang Xun, although amnesiac, hadn’t forgotten about being pounced on a few days ago. His memories were scrambled; he had moved that night to his eighteenth birthday.
Apparently, sleeping with him had left a deep psychological scar on Liang Xun, and he hadn’t forgotten it even with amnesia.
Jian Huaiyi squeezed the paper cup, crushing it.
Their friendship was in jeopardy.
“Liang Xun, we’re not a couple; we’re good brothers,” Jian Huaiyi tried to explain.
Liang Xun chuckled and nodded lightly: “Good brothers who sleep together.”
Jian Huaiyi: …
Liang Xun’s brain wasn’t fully clear after the surgery. Jian Huaiyi stopped talking, no longer arguing about their relationship, and let Liang Xun rest.
“The human brain is a very complex organ. According to Mr. Jian…the patient’s memories are scrambled. This is not unprecedented in medicine. As a family member, it’s recommended not to forcibly correct the patient’s confused memories to prevent a mental breakdown.”
“Okay, thank you, doctor.”
Jian Huaiyi took a deep breath and called Zhao Yan Ting and Jiang Yue.
Zhao Yan Ting and Jiang Yue were together and were shocked by Jian Huaiyi’s words.
They exchanged glances, and Zhao Yan Ting exclaimed: “Amnesia?!”
Jian Huaiyi expertly moved the phone away to prevent his ears from being numbed.
“Jian’er, does Mr. Liang not remember us now?”
“Remove the ‘us’,” Jiang Yue added.
Zhao Yan Ting belatedly realized: “Oh, I forgot Jian’er and Mr. Liang are childhood sweethearts.”
Jian Huaiyi: …
“Should we still go see Mr. Liang?” Zhao Yan Ting subconsciously looked at Jiang Yue, asking for his opinion.
Jiang Yue raised an eyebrow and said to Jian Huaiyi on the other side of the phone: “Jian’er, can we visit A Xun this afternoon? What did the doctor say? Might our sudden appearance affect his memory recovery?”
Jian Huaiyi thought for a moment. Liang Xun’s current condition was indeed precarious.
“Come when he’s more stable.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up, Zhao Yan Ting looked lost.
Jiang Yue glanced at him: “What? Did you also get amnesia?”
Zhao Yan Ting frowned and punched him: “I’m wondering how old Liang Xun is now.”
“Twenty-six.”
“I know he’s twenty-six, I’m curious about his mental age!”
“Curious again.”
“Tsk,” Zhao Yan Ting put his hands in his pockets, his eyes shining brightly, “Yue’er, if we go to the hospital this afternoon, don’t you think we’ll see Mr. Liang from his teenage years?”
Jiang Yue frowned: “What are you going to do?”
Zhao Yan Ting nervously beckoned Jiang Yue closer: “I heard that Jian Huaiyi and Mr. Liang didn’t get along before, so aren’t you curious how Liang Xun will treat Jian Huaiyi after waking up? His cold face makes me a little scared. He won’t bully Jian Huaiyi, will he?!”
Jiang Yue narrowed his eyes, his gaze complex.
Zhao Yan Ting was unhappy and waved his hand: “Don’t look at me like you look at Zhao Qi.”
“You know you’re an idiot.”
Zhao Yan Ting:?
Jiang Yue ruffled Zhao Yan Ting’s hair, speaking sincerely: “Sometimes I really wonder if there’s water in there.”
“Jiang Yue, you bastard.”
On the day of discharge, Jian Huaiyi personally drove to pick up Liang Xun.
According to the doctor, he now had to follow Liang Xun’s memories.
Even if it was as absurd as Jian Luo’s successful investment.
“That’s right, we had a puppy love at seventeen, got together at eighteen, didn’t break up in college, and have been dating for six or seven years now.” After the morning, Jian Huaiyi could calmly say these words.
Liang Xun nodded, completely believing this account.
Jian Huaiyi: …
He secretly worried about Liang Xun recovering his memory, facing this ordeal even after a car accident.
Liang Xun looked around, seeing a cup, a towel, slippers, and a bedroom in various places in the room.
Except for the last one, he couldn’t think of an explanation other than separation.
“We don’t live together now?”
“No, you’re busy with work and aren’t often in the country.”
Liang Xun’s brow rose, and a flash of surprise appeared in his dark eyes under his bangs, quickly disappearing.
Jian Huaiyi went to the bedroom and brought out a tatami mat. The floor was carpeted, and he walked on it barefoot.
He put one tatami mat on each side and patted the other one, gesturing for Liang Xun to sit.
Liang Xun was puzzled and went to sit down, hands in his pockets.
Jian Huaiyi usually lived in the Jian family home; he had only bought this villa a few days ago from a friend.
The floor-to-ceiling windows faced the sun. At three in the afternoon, the sunlight perfectly illuminated the tatami mats.
“Getting more sun helps with memory recovery,” Jian Huaiyi said.
Hopefully, it would recover soon, otherwise, he felt like he was committing a crime every day.
Playing the role of a straight boyfriend, a homophobic straight man at that, was too risky and would eventually lead to problems. Jian Huaiyi thought.
“You’re bothered by my amnesia,” Liang Xun keenly sensed.
Jian Huaiyi’s heart skipped a beat, remembering the doctor’s instructions this morning, and blurted out: “Why would I be?”
Liang Xun looked down, clearly disbelieving.
Liang Xun’s eyelids were thin, and when lowered, one could see the faintly blue blood vessels, somehow making him look pitiful.
Pitiful, a word that didn’t suit Liang Xun at all.
Jian Huaiyi’s heart trembled, unconsciously saying: “Don’t you want to remember how we used to get along?”
Liang Xun’s eyes brightened, his fingertips paused, and after a while, he pursed his lips.
