Chapter 83: Lin Qingyan’s Injury
After a short period of relaxation, all the trainees entered intense training again. Some remained, some were eliminated, some with regret, some without.
In the blink of an eye, it was the day before the third performance. No matter whether they stayed or were eliminated, everyone seized the last bit of time to practice hard.
Lin Qingyan was the same. He was even more diligent than most. Only by practicing day and night could he temporarily forget the messy things in his heart.
In the practice room, Lu Yuqi was already lying on the floor, exhausted. He watched Lin Qingyan, who was still practicing tirelessly, and twitched the corner of his mouth. “Lin Qingyan, stop dancing. You’re already better than me.”
“The performance is tomorrow. Save some energy.”
Lu Yuqi genuinely admired Lin Qingyan. He had never seen anyone so dedicated.
He was already dancing very well, every move ingrained in muscle memory, yet he still kept dancing, as if possessed.
Only after finishing the entire dance did Lin Qingyan stop. He felt his whole body weak and limp; he sat directly on the floor, large beads of sweat sliding down his smooth jawline and dripping onto the floor.
Lu Yuqi lazily sat up, supporting himself with his hands, and threw him a towel and a bottle of water, raising an eyebrow. “Lin Qingyan, you’re working too hard.”
Lin Qingyan took the towel to wipe the sweat from his face and drank several mouthfuls of water. He smiled thoughtfully, his soft voice slightly breathless:
“All I can do now is work hard.” He paused, then slightly raised the corner of his lips, muttering to himself:
“I’m glad I had the chance to participate in this show, to meet you, to make many friends, and to have so many fans who like us.”
Lu Yuqi was unusually embarrassed. He coughed lightly, saying uncomfortably, “I’m also glad to know you.” Then he tsked, “So corny.”
Lin Qingyan couldn’t help but laugh.
“Stop laughing, I’m starving. Let’s eat.”
Lu Shao’s face tightened again, regaining his arrogant demeanor. This was his style; sentimentality didn’t suit his persona.
“Okay, let’s go.”
Lin Qingyan struggled to stand up, leaning against the wall. His legs were still a little weak. He had been practicing very hard these days, and it seemed he really needed to save some energy.
If his performance tomorrow wasn’t good, all his efforts would be wasted. He wanted to win first place; he had never craved this position so much.
But fate had other plans.
Leaving the practice room, the two headed towards the cafeteria. The accident happened in the corridor. Lin Qingyan and Lu Yuqi were walking side-by-side down the stairs, Lin Qingyan on the outside.
At that moment, a figure ran down the stairs from above. Due to the speed, the force of the impact was significant.
Lin Qingyan’s legs were already a little weak, so when the figure bumped into his shoulder, he lost his balance and fell forward down the stairs, a startled cry escaping his lips.
It happened so quickly that Lu Yuqi didn’t even have time to grab his arm. The person who ran down the stairs also froze.
They watched helplessly as Lin Qingyan fell heavily down the stairs, tumbling down.
The whole process took only a few seconds. By the time they reacted, the boy was lying on the ground, unconscious.
“Lin Qingyan!”
Lu Yuqi’s heart skipped a beat. He quickly ran down, anxiously lifting the person up, but unexpectedly touched a sticky liquid. He raised his hand to look, realizing it was blood.
The boy on the ground was unconscious, his breathing weak. The bright red, foul-smelling liquid flowed from his back of his head, dripping onto the clean floor, shocking Lu Yuqi’s senses.
The trainee who bumped into him froze for a moment before running down in a panic, his eyes wide with terror. “He’s bleeding! What do we do… what do we do…”
“What do we do…” Lu Yuqi wanted to kick him, glaring at him angrily, his voice trembling as he roared, “You freaking get someone, call an ambulance! If anything happens to him, you’re dead!!”
“I’ll go, I’ll go…”
—
On the other side, Gu Corporation.
An important partnership needed to be discussed with another company. The atmosphere in the conference room was quiet and serious; a group of men and women in suits were sitting around the conference table.
A subordinate was speaking; the man sitting at the head was expressionless, his calm eyes serious. The phone beside him suddenly lit up; An Jing had called.
Gu Fei glanced at it, calmly looking away. Answering the phone in this situation wasn’t appropriate.
After a while, the call ended, and a text message came through.
Gu Fei casually glanced at it again. When he saw the text, his eyes widened, a trace of anxiety and panic appearing on his otherwise calm face.
In a flash, he grabbed his phone and stood up. Everyone in the conference room immediately looked at him. “Sorry everyone, I have an urgent matter. Please continue the meeting.”
Before anyone could react, the man, who was always unfazed, strode out, quickly disappearing. Even from his back, one could tell he was in a hurry.
The people in the conference room looked at each other, seeing surprise and confusion in each other’s eyes. What kind of urgent matter could make Gu Ye leave an important business meeting halfway?
After leaving the conference room, while waiting for the elevator, Gu Fei called An Jing, his hand holding the phone trembling slightly.
“What happened? Is he seriously injured?”
“YanYan fell down the stairs, hit the back of his head, and is bleeding. He’s been sent to the hospital.” An Jing heard the slightly heavy breathing on the other end of the phone and comforted him, “Don’t worry, it wasn’t a lot of blood. He should be fine.”
“Send me the location. I’m coming now.” How could Gu Fei not be worried? When he heard about Lin Qingyan’s head injury, his mind went blank.
Gu Fei hung up and drove to the hospital immediately after exiting the elevator. The hospital was near the filming base; it would take two hours to drive there.
He soon encountered rush hour traffic. Cars were lined up along the road, all stuck at a red light. Even a distance of only a couple hundred meters took twenty minutes to get through.
Looking at the rows of cars stuck motionless in front of him, a rare look of frustration appeared on Gu Fei’s face.
The man’s grip on the steering wheel tightened, blue veins appearing on the back of his hand. All he could think about was his YanYan.
Gu Ye had never been so panicked.
He was terrified of losing his most precious treasure.
Halfway there, he received another call from An Jing.
An Jing said the doctor had treated Lin Qingyan’s wound. The injury wasn’t serious, and a brain CT scan showed no problems, except for the head wound; his right hand was also fractured.
“We’re here, you don’t need to rush.”
“Mm, I know.”
Gu Fei hung up, his heart slightly easing, but his expression remained grim.
He stepped on the gas, speeding up. The black Maybach raced down the highway, kicking up dust, gradually shrinking into a small black dot.
At the hospital, An Jing and Lu Yuqi were standing outside the ward, along with another person who hung his head in guilt and panic, mumbling, “I’m sorry, it’s all my fault…”
The speaker was Li Chuan, also a trainee at Yi Hua Entertainment. He was in the group that performed “Whale Turned into an Island” during the first performance. He was the one who accidentally bumped into Lin Qingyan.
“Whose fault is it if not yours?!” Lu Yuqi cursed, grabbing Li Chuan’s collar, about to punch him when An Jing stopped him.
“Don’t, violence won’t solve anything.”
“Don’t interfere, let go!”
An Jing’s voice turned cold, “Lu Yuqi.”
Lu Yuqi snorted coldly, reluctantly releasing his grip. He sat down heavily on a bench in the corridor, his chest heaving violently, silently fuming.
Li Chuan stared at him, clenching his teeth, his eyes red as he whispered, “I’m sorry, I really didn’t mean to…”
When Gu Fei arrived at the hospital, the last rays of the setting sun were fading, and it was already dark. After getting out of the car, he went straight to the ward. The other three were still standing in the corridor outside.
“How is he?”
“He’s fine, but he hasn’t woken up yet.”
Gu Fei didn’t pay attention to them and went directly into the ward.
The night outside was hazy, and the ward was exceptionally quiet. Because of his head injury, the boy was lying on his side. His head was bandaged, his delicate face pale, his lips bloodless.
The lights in the room cast a shadow on his face, his long, thick eyelashes fluttering slightly, casting a feathery shadow under his eyes, appearing pale and fragile.
Gu Fei felt that the person in front of him was so fragile that he might disappear at any moment. He gently held Lin Qingyan’s slightly cold hand, enveloping the boy’s palm with his warm hand.
He lowered his head, silently kissing the boy’s cold fingertips, his voice low and hoarse, yet trembling with tenderness and affection, “YanYan…”
No one came in to disturb them. Gu Fei held the boy’s hand, quietly sitting by the bed watching over him. After a while, Gu Fei got up and went out.
