Chapter 48: Finale
Unknown how many winters and springs had passed, the piercing spring wind blew again in the blink of an eye.
Although the early spring wind still carried a trace of chill, it melted the white snow on the branches into droplets of water, falling into the withered grass and soaking out tender buds.
Suddenly, a cold drop of water flew into the dilapidated mountain temple through the leaky roof, landing under the eye of the long-decayed statue, slowly tracing a wet mark on the thick layer of dust, like a god shedding tears.
Immediately after, countless large and small water droplets fell on the eaves, starting the first spring rain.
Rumbleโ
Spring thunder also resounded. A heaven-shaking white light suddenly struck into the dilapidated temple, collapsing a small half of the temple roof, making the already dilapidated temple even more wretched.
An unlucky sword cultivator passing through this mountain wilderness intended to go in to hide from the rain. Who knew he would almost get struck by lightning, shivering all over.
Unknown if it was from cold or fright.
Just as he was planning to leave to rest elsewhere, a ghostly voice suddenly came from the templeโ
“Little Ah Yue…”
The sword cultivator walked even faster without looking back.
He shouted as he walked, “Hmph, I’m not afraid of you, lonely ghost! If you dare harm me, I’ll make you know the power of the Jiusi Sword in my hand!” Holding the sword tightly with both hands, he was shaking so much he couldn’t even draw it.
A certain lonely ghost: “…” Then why are you shaking? He couldn’t help criticizing in his heart: Yue Jiusi is too timid. As a sword cultivator, he’s actually afraid of ghosts.
Yue Jiusi flew into a rage out of humiliation. “Can’t I be afraid of the cold!”
The wild ghost was silent for a while, then called again, “Yue Jiusi, look who I am.”
Yue Jiusi turned a deaf ear, rushing straight down the mountain. After a short while, a hand suddenly rested on his left shoulder.
The wild ghost had caught up with him at some point, voice almost close to his ear, saying, “Why run so fast? I almost couldn’t catch up with you.”
It sounded eerie and ghostly, with a trembling tail end.
Yue Jiusi’s heart jumped to his throat. With a “ow,” he screamed abruptly, hugged his head with both hands, so scared he completely forgot he was a cultivator who slew demons. His voice shook terribly: “Don’t eat me, don’t eat me, my meat is smelly and tough, not tasty…”
Wild Ghost: “…”
Hearing no movement for a long time, Yue Jiusi opened his eyes a crack to look. He saw that the wild ghost didn’t look strange at all. Instead, he was quite beautiful, with a small face and mouth, big eyes, and long eyelashes fluttering. His two eyeballs seemed soaked in spring water, moist and lustrous. It was just that the red Sanskrit lotus mark on his forehead and head of snow-white hair looked extremely like a certain Divine Monarch who had been dead for a hundred years.
For a moment, the nine-foot-tall big guy stiffened in fright and fell to the ground with a bang, screaming, “Ghost!!!”
His voice cracked midway, piercing Su Huan’s ears so much he stretched his neck back, explaining helplessly, “Look clearly, I’m not a ghost. The Heavenly Dao judged my merit complete, so I didn’t die thoroughly. Now I have ascended… demoted to an immortal.”
Yue Jiusi didn’t believe it at all. “Y-y-you’re lying! What Immortal… Immortal Monarch wears burial clothes!”
Su Huan looked down. His clothes were white with a left lapel (style for the dead), and there were still a few grains of soil stuck to them, looking just like a freshly unearthed corpse puppet or ghost.
He hurriedly brushed off the mud and laughed awkwardly. “Just came out of the grave, haven’t had time to change…”
Halfway through, he realized it sounded even more like one.
Yue Jiusi went quiet. Suddenly his eyes rolled back, and he fainted dead away. A jade tablet for warding off evil and attracting blessings fell out of his collar, dutifully emitting a faint fluorescence to ward off evil for its master.
Su Huan: “…”
Forget it, fainting is good too.
Convenient for me to cast the Oblivion Spell.
…
When Yue Jiusi woke up again, he found himself lying alone in the dilapidated temple, his head groggy. He couldn’t help muttering, “I feel like I forgot something…”
The rain outside had long stopped. The clouds cleared after the rain; it was another day of good scenery.
“Whatever, I still have to deliver the invitation for the Immortal Alliance Conference to the Xuanji Sect…”
Yue Jiusi jumped up and flew away on his sword.
Totally unaware that behind this dilapidated temple, a tomb had appeared. The tombstone was engraved with “Tomb of My Son Buhuan,” and the coffin behind the stele was wide open, with no corpse inside.
Recently, as various immortal sects were rushing to the Jianqing Sect to attend the Immortal Alliance Conference, there were many more vendors selling pills, magical artifacts, and spirit talismans on the streets, making it livelier than usual.
Su Huan used the jewelry buried in the coffin to buy a set of clean clothes and put on a veil hat (weili). After walking out of the shop, however, he didn’t know where he should go.
Suddenly, he heard cultivators gossiping on the street:
“Have you heard? A few days ago, that person from the Boundless Sea went crazy again. Killing all the demons wasn’t enough; now he’s announced he wants to kill all the immortal aristocratic families!”
“Since he succeeded the Boundless Sea, he has turned the Seven Continents and Four Seas upside down, with no peace…”
“He is truly a madman. If all great powers were like himโseeking revenge on the entire cultivation world a hundredfold just because of frustration in loveโwould anyone be able to live…”
“Speaking of which, Divine Lord Cang Xuan was too unlucky. He finally reincarnated to be happy and free, only to be forced out to clean up the mess of the demons, ending up with his soul scattered…”
Su Huan paused, adjusted the brim of his hat, and silently merged into the crowd.
The only divine authority was on him. If he didn’t stand up, no one could tamper with the destiny of the world’s end. Exchanging his life for a vibrant future was worth it.
He just didn’t expect that the edict he issued would also be effective on himself, bringing him back from the dead.
Thinking of this, Su Huan couldn’t help having a headache.
If that kid knows I left him to die, but didn’t die…
Su Huan silently tightened the veil, wrapping himself tightly.
Passing a food shop specializing in spiritual food, Su Huan’s eyes involuntarily fixed on the fragrant spirit fruits in the shop.
Fresh, plump, and crystal clear.
Su Huan stopped walking.
When leaving the shop, Su Huan had two extra oil paper bags in his arms. The red fruits in the bags piled up into two small peaks. He picked up the reddest one and took a bite. It was so delicious he couldn’t help squinting, his whole aura becoming cozy and comfortable.
But after just one bite, Su Huan seemed to sense something and turned back abruptly.
In the crowded flow of people, his gaze met a pair of black eyes.
Colliding suddenly, light burst from the originally dull black eyes. In an instant, countless emotions rushed outโshock, ecstasy, sadness, pain… thick as a pot of mixed porridge.
The black-clad youth’s eyes suddenly reddened, his body trembling, and he uttered a sentence suppressed to extreme pain: “…You abandoned me again.”
Su Huan was sluggish. The fruit in his hand fell to the ground with a “plop.”
It was Xiao Jianming.
Reunited again, the first reaction in Su Huan’s mind was to run. However, before he could move, Xiao Jianming had arrived in front of him at some point, grabbing his wrist and calling him in a low voice, “Ah Qing gege.”
The tone was light as a feather, like whispering sweet nothings, yet revealed a bit of strangeness.
Su Huan shuddered suddenly, sensing something bad. “L-listen to my explanation…”
“Shh.” Xiao Jianming put his index finger to his lips. The surrounding people stopped abruptly, as if frozen.
He said softly, “I won’t believe your words anymore.”
Binding me from death with last words in the last life, and cruelly abandoning me again in this life…
Xiao Jianming didn’t want to listen to his brother anymore. He said slowly, “I want to lock you up so you can only stay by my side, unable to run, unable to break free, until… Ah Qing gege will never abandon me again.”
Su Huan’s eyes widened in shock. “How can you do that…”
Xiao Jianming chuckled lightly, taking the oil paper bags full of spirit fruits from his arms. He lowered his eyes gently and smiled. “Why can’t I?”
He took out a somewhat old lotus water jade from over his heart, tied it to the youth’s waist, and said warmly, “I’m not an unreasonable person. This belongs to Ah Qing gege, so now I return it to its original owner for the time being.”
“If within an hour, Ah Qing gege can take it and escape from my palm, I won’t lock Ah Qing gege up.”
“Ah Qing gege, start running.”
“…If caught, I’ll fuck you to death.”
Su Huan was stunned but didn’t move.
Xiao Jianming’s black eyes showed a little doubt, but he saw Su Huan purse his lips, take a step closer to him, and slowly say, “I never thought of running away.”
Xiao Jianming was stunned. He gripped a corner of his clothes, his voice husky. “…Do you know what you are saying?”
Su Huan took a deep breath and sighed, “Although I don’t like this crazy look of yours, Ji Buhuan loves Xiao Jianming, and Cang Xuan also loves Wuwang.”
Now it was Xiao Jianming’s turn to be stunned. Only disbelief remained in his eyes, trance-like as if in a dream.
…What?
Seeing no reaction from him, as if his soul had left his body, Su Huan couldn’t help asking, “What’s wrong with you?”
Xiao Jianming looked at him, almost murmuring, “Say it again.”
Su Huan was puzzled but repeated, “I said, Ji Buhuan loves you, and Wuwang also loves you.”
Xiao Jianming suddenly realized what he was going to say, disbelief flooding his eyes.
He saw Su Huan grinding a small stone under his foot, saying slowly, quietly, yet extremely fast, “But I don’t like you yet… so you need to be less crazy and work harder to make ‘Su Huan’ fall in love with you…”
Xiao Jianming’s hands trembled, and he suddenly hugged the youth he had been longing for.
He really didn’t know what to do with Ah Qing gege.
His Ah Qing gege was truly too soft-hearted.
Later, a pair of somewhat strange travel companions appearing to tour the mountains and waters appeared in the Immortal Continentโ
A youth with white hair and a red lotus mark walked in front, always holding a bag of spirit fruits. Behind him was a cold youth in black clothes with black eyes, never leaving his side.
People often said this was the Divine Lord returning with his Divine Envoy, hiding their identities to travel to various places in the world to uphold justice, do good, and eliminate evil.
Unfortunately, this road of justice was filled with all kinds of noise, all coming from the same person.
“The beggar’s chicken bought from that shop yesterday was so delicious! Much tastier than the ones in the restaurants under the Xuanji Sect…”
“What, what? You picked Scarlet Feather Fruits for me again? Mmm… so sweet! How much do I like you today? Hmm… a little bit more than yesterday, just a little bit.”
“You ask if I can like you a bit more? Of course not! In that case, I’d have to pay double the liking tomorrow!”
“…But tomorrow I can like you a little bit more than today.”
Later, when people saw them again, they were still traveling everywhere, upholding justice.
Only, the two were no longer walking one after another, but side by side, fingers interlaced.
These youths, who had gone through a hundred lifetimes of loving and killing each other, finally achieved a happy ending.
