Chapter 101: You’ll Only Feel Pity for Me
Zhou Fu was instructed by Huo Qing Yan to handle the aftermath of the car accident.
After Jiang Ying and Jiang Li Chuan left, only Jiang Su and Huo Qing Yan remained outside the emergency room.
Jiang Su walked to Huo Qing Yan’s side.
Huo Qing Yan, hearing the movement beside him, turned his head sluggishly: “Your second sister and the others have left?”
His voice was still extremely hoarse.
“Mm.” The corridor was inexplicably cold. Jiang Su lowered the rolled-up sleeves of his shirt, revealing only a section of his well-proportioned wrist.
After adjusting his cuffs, he heard Huo Qing Yan speak again: “The last time I saw her was seven years ago.”
Jiang Su calculated the time: “At that time, you were still studying abroad.”
Huo Qing Yan hummed: “My father’s power was too great. I couldn’t do anything in the country. Abroad, I had free rein and found my mother.”
At this point, Huo Qing Yan’s gaze darkened.
Seeing his expression, Jiang Su knew that what happened afterward wasn’t pleasant.
Jiang Su continued to ask: “What happened after that?”
No one is indestructible. If there is, it’s because that person is skilled at hiding.
Huo Qing Yan brought up his mother because he didn’t suddenly feel the urge to confide.
Rather, he just wanted to breathe.
These things were suffocating him.
“My father quickly found out about it, took my mother away, beat me up, and then sent me back to the apartment. I developed a high fever, and Lin Si Yue saved me.”
Huo Qing Yan’s calm tone was filled with self-loathing.
Jiang Su mused that Lin Si Yue indeed had a life-saving grace on Huo Qing Yan.
Huo Qing Yan asked Jiang Su in a low voice: “Are you very disappointed?”
Jiang Su was puzzled: “Disappointed about what?”
“You thought Huo Qing Yan was omnipotent, but he’s actually been living such a miserable life all along.” Huo Qing Yan twitched his lips, revealing an extremely unsightly smile.
He had always known that this was one of the reasons Jiang Su liked him.
Jiang Su’s expression was complex: “Is this why you didn’t tell me about these things before?”
Huo Qing Yan didn’t speak, taking it as a tacit admission.
Jiang Su sneered: “If you had told me before, I might have felt sorry for you and not divorced you. Now that you’re telling me this, I’ll only laugh at you.”
Huo Qing Yan smiled, his gaze at Jiang Su very gentle: “If I had told you before, you would have felt sad for me. Now that I tell you, you’ll only feel pity for me. That’s good.”
He had already done many things to make Jiang Su sad.
Thinking back, the only thing he did right was, for the sake of that ridiculous self-esteem, he didn’t tell Jiang Su about the Huo family’s affairs when she still loved him.
If he had spoken up, Jiang Su would definitely have helped him share the burden.
One person sinking into a swamp is always better than two people sinking together.
Jiang Su never thought that one day she would chat with Huo Qing Yan so calmly.
It was Huo Qing Yan who had set aside his self-esteem and pride and was being honest with her.
Jiang Su glanced at him: “Then I should thank you?”
Huo Qing Yan lowered his eyes, his faint smile fading.
Jiang Su glanced at the emergency room door: “When did it start?”
Huo Qing Yan knew Jiang Su was asking when Huo Zhen Heng started using his mother to threaten and control him.
Huo Qing Yan was silent for a long while.
“When I was very young. Every so often, a servant would disappear from home. When I was fifteen, after my mother asked for a divorce, she also disappeared.”
The sudden sound of hurried footsteps echoed in the silent corridor, making people feel restless.
Jiang Su felt the atmosphere around Huo Qing Yan become fierce.
Turning her head, she found Huo Zhen Heng had arrived.
Huo Zhen Heng walked over and grabbed Huo Qing Yan’s collar: “Where’s Duan Zhixi!”
Huo Zhen Heng didn’t come alone; he brought a group of bodyguards.
Those bodyguards stood respectfully not far away; they probably wouldn’t help Huo Zhen Heng fight Huo Qing Yan.
Jiang Su glanced at Huo Qing Yan’s still bandaged hand, sighed, and started rolling up his sleeves.
Really, Huo Zhen Heng deserved a beating.
Duan Zhixi was once a celebrated socialite in Qingyang City, admired by countless people. Marrying Huo Zhen Heng was considered a fairytale match.
Now, however, she had been tortured by Huo Zhen Heng to this state.
Trash who only knows how to bully women and children!
Jiang Su had finished rolling up his sleeves, but was pushed away by Huo Qing Yan.
Jiang Su, caught off guard, stumbled. When she turned her head, she found Huo Zhen Heng and Huo Qing Yan already grappling.
Huo Qing Yan had truly reached his limit, and his attack on Huo Zhen Heng was extremely ruthless.
Huo Zhen Heng didn’t hold back either.
The bodyguards nearby were like robots, without any reaction.
As long as the bodyguards didn’t intervene, Huo Qing Yan should be able to handle Huo Zhen Heng one-on-one.
Soon, Huo Qing Yan had Huo Zhen Heng pinned to the ground and was pummeling him.
“You’d better pray my mother is safe!” Huo Qing Yan stood up, his face grim, the unspoken words understood by Huo Zhen Heng.
Huo Zhen Heng’s face was extremely ugly, filled with rage, but he didn’t say a word.
He enjoyed the sense of accomplishment from controlling Huo Qing Yan, but he also feared him, which is why he controlled Duan Zhixi.
If Duan Zhixi didn’t survive this, Huo Zhen Heng would no longer have anything to control Huo Qing Yan with.
“Mr. Huo!”
Zhou Fu pushed past the bodyguards and quickly walked over.
When Huo Zhen Heng saw the thick stack of folders in Zhou Fu’s hands, his eyes flickered. He wiped the blood from his face, which had been inflicted by Huo Qing Yan, and left with his bodyguards.
“This is the information about the car accident. The driver was on drugs, and after fleeing, he crashed off an overpass…”
After handing Huo Qing Yan a file, Zhou Fu reached into his bag to get another document, but paused.
His hesitation didn’t escape Huo Qing Yan’s eyes.
Huo Qing Yan said in a low voice: “Give it to me.”
Zhou Fu hesitated, glancing at Jiang Su.
Jiang Su pursed her lips and said: “Give it to him.”
Zhou Fu very slowly took out another file bag.
This file bag probably contained what had happened to Duan Zhixi all these years.
Huo Qing Yan’s one hand wasn’t very convenient, so Jiang Su took it for him, opened the file bag, pulled out the documents inside, and handed them to Huo Qing Yan.
Jiang Su only glanced at it and saw the words “Psychiatric Hospital.”
He remembered that when he chased after those bodyguards, they said Duan Zhixi had a mental illness.
Huo Qing Yan’s hands trembled as he flipped through the pages. Before he finished reading, he couldn’t help but clench his fist, crumpling the documents in his hand.
“No wonder I couldn’t find her all these years.”
Seven years ago, after he last saw his mother, he could never find her again.
He had always thought that his mother was imprisoned in some secluded villa or some place he couldn’t guess.
He tried every means.
But he never imagined that his mother, who used to gently sew buttons for him, had been confined to a psychiatric hospital for seven years.
