Chapter 108: Back from the Dead, a Broken Mirror Mended
The man across from her was ashen-faced, his eyes empty, as if his very soul had been hollowed out.
Jiang Ying knew she had hit her mark.
While she hadn’t dealt with Huo Qingyan face-to-face many times, their circle was small. All things considered, she and Huo Qingyan were old acquaintances.
If Huo Qingyan truly felt nothing for Xiao Qi, why would he have tolerated the boy hanging around him for so many years?
When Jiang Su had been dead set on marrying him, Jiang Ying hadn’t fully approved, but her thoughts weren’t so different from her sister’s.
She had assumed that after they married, they would gradually grow into a harmonious, compatible couple.
But reality had run in the complete opposite direction of her assumptions.
“Mr. Huo, I didn’t come here today to blame you for anything,” Jiang Ying said, her tone exceptionally gentle. “I just felt you should know these things.”
Huo Qingyan finally lifted his gaze to meet hers, his eyes bloodshot.
As if oblivious to his state, a faint smile touched Jiang Ying’s lips. “I have another appointment, so I won’t keep you. I hope your aunt has a speedy recovery.”
The love he had once squandered, the pain he had so carelessly inflicted, all of it came rushing back to him in that single moment.
It was death by a thousand cuts.
Some mistakes could be fixed.
But for others, there was no turning back.
Seeing Jiang Ying emerge, Zhou Fu stood up. “Leaving, Ms. Jiang?”
Jiang Ying smiled. “Take good care of your Mr. Huo.”
Both her smile and her words carried an unusual undertone.
Zhou Fu’s expression froze for a second before he managed, “Thank you for your concern, Ms. Jiang.”
As Jiang Ying turned to leave, Zhou Fu was about to check on Huo Qingyan in the meeting room.
Just then, Jiang Ying suddenly looked back. “Oh, by the way…”
Zhou Fu looked at her, and she continued, “Lichuan said his door is always open for you. He’s waiting for you to have a change of heart.”
Zhou Fu was speechless.
Before he could respond, Jiang Ying clicked away in her high heels.
Zhou Fu hurriedly pushed open the door to the meeting room.
“Mr. Huo?”
Huo Qingyan sat motionless on the sofa, his face frighteningly pale, a dead stillness in his dark eyes.
What on earth did Ms. Jiang say to him?
Their conversation had lasted no more than fifteen minutes. Why did Mr. Huo look as if the sky was about to fall?
Zhou Fu was terrified by the sight of him. “Mr. Huo… please say something.”
Huo Qingyan didn’t seem to hear him at all, not even blinking.
The next day was Saturday.
It was time to film the fourth episode of Are You Happy After the Divorce?
As Jiang Su was getting ready in the dressing room, Shen Xiumo sauntered over, showing off his new hairstyle.
The moment he entered, Shen Xiumo did a full spin to give Jiang Su a 360-degree view of his hair.
Then, he raised an eyebrow. “Well? What do you think?”
His face screamed, “Praise me now.”
Jiang Su stared at the sheer amount of gel in Shen Xiumo’s hair. “Why didn’t you get a foil perm?”
Shen Xiumo was confused. “Why would I get a foil perm?”
Jiang Su deadpanned, “Foil perms are for scumbags.”
Shen Xiumo was speechless.
He got the message. He really didn’t stand a chance.
Slightly miffed, Shen Xiumo turned to admire himself in the mirror, ignoring Jiang Su.
Jiang Su felt he should probably smooth things over. After all, if a good script came up in the future, he’d want Shen Xiumo to think of him.
He took another look at the hairstyle and said with great sincerity, “Actually, your hair looks really good.”
Shen Xiumo turned to him, his face a blank mask. “It would have been more believable if you hadn’t added the word ‘actually’.”
“Er…” Right. No ‘actually’ next time.
Once Shen Xiumo had had his fill of admiring his own hair, he asked Jiang Su, “What’s up with Huo Qingyan lately? He’s gone quiet again. What’s he busy with?”
Jiang Su killed the conversation with a single sentence: “Why don’t you call him and ask?”
Shen Xiumo was speechless. Nothing more to say. Conversation over.
The theme for this episode was:
—Do you have any regrets about your divorce?
This was basically a freebie question.
Everyone had their pride. Even if someone did have regrets, they would never admit it.
The unanimous answer was no regrets.
Fu Jin turned the spotlight on Shen Xiumo. “Mr. Shen, you…”
Before Fu Jin could finish, Shen Xiumo jumped in, “If you’re asking, it means I loved. And if I loved, I don’t regret it.”
Live Comments:
[A perfect answer, hahaha!]
[I’m officially a fan of this guy, Shen Xiumo.]
[Fu Jin: I quit. I’m quitting the show right now!!]
[I’ll be honest, I’m just here to watch Fu Jin get embarrassed, hahaha…]
By the fourth episode, Fu Jin was completely used to this kind of thing.
He glanced at the tablet beside him, which displayed the real-time comments, and pretended like nothing had happened.
“Alright, let’s move on to the next segment.”
Soon, it was everyone’s favorite segment: the live audience Q&A.
Jiang Su was actually a little excited.
He couldn’t wait to see what kinds of weird and wonderful questions the audience would come up with this time.
When it was Jiang Su’s turn, a man in a baseball cap and a mask stood up from the audience.
The audience wasn’t too far from the stage, and the man’s build looked incredibly familiar to Jiang Su.
“My question is for Mr. Fu. What are your thoughts on a broken mirror being mended?” the man asked, his voice magnetic and pleasant.
Well, damn. That voice sounds even more familiar.
Wait, shouldn’t he be asking me?
Why is this person asking Fu Jin right off the bat?
Jiang Su squinted, studying the man carefully. The more he looked, the more familiar the man seemed.
His eyes widened in disbelief. He blinked.
Then, he slowly turned his head to look at Fu Jin.
Fu Jin’s face was cold, his fingers gripping the cue card so tightly he was losing his composure.
Jiang Su cleared his throat with a soft cough. “Excuse me, sir, don’t you have a question for me?”
The words had barely left his mouth when Fu Jin’s voice cut in, “If the dead can come back to life, then I’ll believe a broken mirror can be mended.”
The man asking the question was clearly taken aback.
Fu Jin’s expression returned to normal. “Sir, if you have no further questions, please pass the microphone to the next person.”
Live Comments:
[Something’s not right! Jiang Su, Fu Jin, and this guy in the audience are all acting weird!]
[Did Fu Jin’s expression just change?]
[That audience member’s voice is so nice, and he looks like he has a great physique. Why is he so covered up? Is he a celebrity?]
[Something fishy is going on!]
The moment the filming ended, Fu Jin’s face turned icy. He spun around and walked out of the studio.
Jiang Su followed him and saw Fu Jin head toward the restroom.
Jiang Su didn’t follow him in. Instead, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number. “Mr. Fu is in the restroom.”
A moment later, the man in the baseball cap and mask appeared in Jiang Su’s line of sight.
Jiang Su crossed his arms, a leisurely look on his face as he called out, “Third Brother.”
The man stopped in his tracks, looked up, and smiled at Jiang Su. “Xiao Qi, long time no see.”
The person who had posed as an audience member was none other than Jiang Su’s third brother, Jiang Zhishen.
