Chapter 113: A Leap from the Thirtieth Floor
“Just these? What else?” A rare hint of happiness appeared on Huo Qingyan’s usually indifferent face.
His mother had suffered so much torment from Huo Zhenheng over the years, both physically and mentally. Her health had been severely depleted, and her heart was naturally heavy. He had been constantly observing her state recently. If she showed any signs of distress, he would immediately find a psychologist for her. Fortunately, her condition seemed stable. Early the next morning, Huo Qingyan was ready to go and arrange a place for Duan Zhixi to live after her discharge. Before he left, Duan Zhixi smiled and told him, “Be careful on the road.”
“I will. I’ll be back to have dinner with you tonight.” Duan Zhixi had been able to eat small amounts of food recently.
As soon as Huo Qingyan left, Duan Zhixi called for Zhou Fu and asked for a pen and paper.
Zhou Fu couldn’t help but ask, “Madam, what do you need a pen and paper for?”
“Zhou, you don’t know this, but I used to study design. I thought I’d draw a little something to pass the time.”
“I wish I’d known you wanted to draw. I would have brought you some art supplies.”
“Next time.”
“Alright!”
Zhou Fu left Duan Zhixi’s hospital room and answered a phone call.
“Hello, are you Lu Jue’s family member?”
As soon as Zhou Fu heard the tone, he knew something had happened to Lu Jue. “I’m his cousin. What happened to him?”
The person on the other end said, “Lu Jue was in a car accident…”
Lu Jue’s parents weren’t in Qingyang City. Among all his relatives, he was closest to Zhou Fu, and he had filled in Zhou Fu’s name as his emergency contact.
“Which hospital? I’m coming right now.” Zhou Fu grabbed a pen and wrote down the address. After hanging up, he immediately called Huo Qingyan.
“What is it?” Huo Qingyan answered quickly.
“President Huo, my cousin was in a car accident. I have to go there now.”
“I’ll be right back.” Huo Qingyan hung up after saying that.
Huo Qingyan only trusted Zhou Fu. He wasn’t comfortable leaving Duan Zhixi alone in the hospital without Zhou Fu there to look after her.
Huo Qingyan returned quickly. Zhou Fu briefly explained the situation to him and then left.
Duan Zhixi looked past Huo Qingyan. “You’re back so soon? Where’s Zhou?”
Huo Qingyan simply explained, “He had something to take care of.”
“Oh.” Duan Zhixi nodded in understanding. Then, as if she suddenly remembered something, she said, “Oh, right, the doctor came by a little while ago. He seemed to have something to say.”
Huo Qingyan’s expression turned serious. “I’ll go see him.” A doctor wouldn’t come by unless it was about Duan Zhixi’s health, so he couldn’t take it lightly.
Huo Qingyan went to the doctor’s office, where the doctor spoke to him about Duan Zhixi’s condition. The doctor said the weather was nice today, and he could take Duan Zhixi out for a walk.
On his way back, Huo Qingyan thought about how happy his mother would be to hear that she could go outside. When he was still a ways off, he saw that the bodyguards who were supposed to be standing guard outside the hospital room were all lying on the ground.
Huo Qingyan’s expression changed instantly, and he bolted toward the room.
“Mom!”
But the hospital room was completely empty. Duan Zhixi was nowhere to be found!

Today was the final day of filming for the fifth season of Are You Happy After the Divorce? The finale would be airing tonight.
Early in the morning, Jiang Su received a call from Shen Xiumo, who said he was hosting a lunch for everyone at the Qingyang Grand Hotel. Jiang Su had the call on speakerphone, so Xu Mocun heard the conversation, too. As soon as the call ended, Xu Mocun said, a puzzled look on his face, “Shen Xiumo must have too much money on his hands. He’s hosting a farewell meal before the show’s even over.”
Jiang Su thought for a moment. “Maybe he’s just bored?”
Xu Mocun agreed profoundly. “I think so too…”
At ten o’clock, Jiang Su and Xu Mocun went to the Qingyang Grand Hotel. Shen Xiumo was generous with his money and had reserved several large tables. When Jiang Su arrived, many of the cast and crew were already there.
While Shen Xiumo was pouring wine for Jiang Su, Jiang Su asked him, “Why are you hosting a lunch in the middle of the day?”
Shen Xiumo explained, “Manman has something to do and has to go abroad tonight, so I’m hosting the get-together early.”
So that was it. Shen Xiumo and Shen Man were the only two children in the Shen family, and they were very close.
Since they had to film the show tonight, no one drank too much wine. They just clinked glasses as a gesture, but they had ordered all the signature dishes.
In the middle of the meal, Jiang Su left the private room to use the restroom and saw a waiter rush past him. The waiters at the Qingyang Grand Hotel were always very polite, so why was this one acting so flustered?
Jiang Su hadn’t walked two steps before another waiter rushed past him. But this one had better professional skills. When he passed by Jiang Su, he slowed down and said, “Mr. Jiang,” before leaving.
Only then did Jiang Su realize that some kind of emergency must have happened. It wasn’t uncommon for hotels to have sudden incidents, so he didn’t think much of it.
The private room was too crowded and made Jiang Su feel stuffy. So, after using the restroom, he didn’t go back immediately. Instead, he wandered over to the public lounge area at the end of the hall.
As soon as he sat down, his attention was caught by a conversation between two people sitting nearby.
“I heard someone just jumped from the building!”
“Someone actually dared to jump from the Qingyang Grand Hotel?”
“I don’t know who it was. It sounds like a man and a woman!”
“A lover’s quarrel? What happened to them?”
“They jumped from the 30th floor. How could they still be alive?”
“Oh my God…”
Hearing this, Jiang Su stood up and got ready to go back to the private room. He had seen the waiters rushing around earlier, but he never expected something so serious had happened.
Back in the room, people were also discussing the incident. Jiang Su had lost his appetite for the meal and decided to leave.
Shen Xiumo walked him to the elevator. “The finale is tonight. Will you do me a favor and come?”
Jiang Su smiled. “Of course.”

The elevator doors opened. Jiang Su looked up, and his eyes met those of the person inside.
“Assistant Zhou?”
The person in the elevator was Zhou Fu. Zhou Fu was always calm and composed, but at this moment, he looked flustered and at a loss.
Jiang Su stepped inside and asked, a little puzzled, “What’s wrong? Is the situation very tricky?”
The Qingyang Grand Hotel was a part of the Huo family’s business. Zhou Fu being here at this time must mean he had come to handle the aftermath of the suicide incident.
