After Giving Up, My Rich Ex-Husband Begged Me to Return CHAPTER 118

Chapter 118: An Ambiguous Relationship

With Gao Xinlin’s sincere apology, everyone’s expressions softened a bit.

“Let’s get ready to start,” the director said without much fuss.

Jiang Su had long since memorized his lines and quickly got into character.

The screenwriter, Jiang Ning, was also on set this time. Sitting next to the director, she whispered, “Jiang Su is truly worthy of his awards. His future is limitless.”

Although the director didn’t speak, his face showed clear satisfaction.

When it was Gao Xinlin’s turn, however, he kept stumbling over his lines.

“Song Xun, on this journey…” Gao Xinlin thought for a long time but couldn’t remember the next line.

The director’s face darkened. “Cut!”

He got up from behind the camera, strode over, and first said to Jiang Su, “Teacher Jiang, why don’t you take a break? I need to go over the scene with Xinlin.”

Jiang Su, respecting the director, turned and left without a word.

“Xinlin…” The director, holding the script, was about to talk to Gao Xinlin.

Gao Xinlin, watching Jiang Su walk away, interrupted the director. “Director, why did Jiang Su leave without a word? Does he have a problem with me?”

The director replied, “Teacher Jiang is probably just a bit tired. Please be understanding.”

Who on this entire crew doesn’t have a problem with you? he thought.

Gao Xinlin pressed on, “The afternoon just started and he’s already tired? Teacher Jiang must be in poor health.”

The director changed the subject. “Let’s talk about the script first. Are the lines that hard to understand?”

How did this idiot get so famous?

Gao Xinlin frowned. “I’ve been too busy lately, I haven’t had time to memorize my lines. Let’s just dub it in post-production. I really don’t have time to memorize them.”

The director was speechless. Then what the hell are you even acting for!

He was so angry he felt like he was choking on blood, unable to spit it out or swallow it down.

All the sets and props were arranged for this scene. Not filming would be a huge loss. When he wasn’t famous, he couldn’t get funding. Now that he finally could, he couldn’t bear to waste it like this.

Therefore, to minimize the losses, they had to shoot the scene according to Gao Xinlin’s wishes.

The director could only swallow his anger and turn to find Jiang Su.

Jiang Su was sitting some distance away and had watched the entire exchange. Although he couldn’t hear what they said, he could guess from the director’s expression that Gao Xinlin must have said something unpleasant.

Then, seeing the director walking towards him with a cautious expression, he became even more certain.

“Teacher Jiang…” The director found it hard to speak. “Xinlin hasn’t memorized his lines well. To avoid delaying the schedule, how about we just shoot the scene without him reciting the lines for now, and you could…”

Jiang Su’s face turned cold, and he cut him off. “I don’t think so.”

He had underestimated this Gao Xinlin. Being an hour and a half late was one thing; the apology seemed sincere, so Jiang Su let it go. Forgetting his lines, out of respect for the director, Jiang Su also let it go. But now, he was refusing to say his lines at all.

Three strikes and you’re out. This time, Jiang Su was not going to let it slide.

“Teacher Jiang, look…” The director tried to persuade him.

Jiang Su’s expression grew even colder. “Director, I respect you, and I respect my profession. I can’t act in a scene with someone who won’t even say their lines!”

“Teacher Jiang, it’s my fault for not knowing my lines, but the set is already prepared. If we don’t shoot, it will be a huge loss for the production! Please, just cooperate.”

Gao Xinlin had walked over at some point. It was clearly his fault, but his words twisted it to sound like Jiang Su was the one in the wrong.

Jiang Su was so angry he laughed. “Why should I cooperate with someone like you who has no professional integrity? It’s bad enough you can’t act, but your attitude is also terrible. If you can’t even remember your lines, what are you doing acting?”

The director was so moved he wanted to applaud. Jiang Su had said everything he was thinking but didn’t dare to say.

Gao Xinlin had been very popular for years, always praised wherever he went. How could he tolerate being scolded like this by Jiang Su?

“Jiang Su, don’t go too far!”

Jiang Su said coldly, “Those who don’t cherish their own reputation will sooner or later have their wings broken.”

After speaking, he turned and walked towards his trailer.

From behind him came Gao Xinlin’s voice, “So what if you have some ambiguous relationships with Huo Qingyan and Shen Xiumo? What’s there to be so proud of…”

“Gao Xinlin, what nonsense are you talking!” The director was so scared he shouted Gao Xinlin’s full name.

Jiang Su stopped in his tracks.

Xu Mocun saw the look on Jiang Su’s face and quickly grabbed him. “Su Su, calm down!”

“Do I look like I can calm down right now?” Jiang Su was breathing heavily with anger. “Let go!”

“Don’t get into a fight with him, it’s not worth it. We can deal with him quietly!” Xu Mocun whispered persuasively.

“I’m going to deal with him openly!” Jiang Su was trained in martial arts; Xu Mocun couldn’t hold him back at all. He shook him off in a couple of moves.

He was furious! If he didn’t beat up Gao Xinlin today, he wasn’t human!

Seeing Jiang Su storming back, Gao Xinlin was momentarily intimidated by his aura and instinctively stepped back. He didn’t notice a prop behind him, his foot slipped, and he fell to the ground.

A loud “thump” that sounded painful.

It was indeed painful. Gao Xinlin cried out, “Ouch—”

The director didn’t have time to worry about Gao Xinlin; he felt Jiang Su was the bigger problem because he looked like he was genuinely about to hit someone.

“There are too many people here, it’ll be bad if this blows up…” The director looked like he was about to cry from anxiety.

Jiang Su was genuinely afraid he might actually cry.

He glanced at Gao Xinlin again.

Gao Xinlin’s assistant came to help him up. Just as he was about to stand, Jiang Su subtly stuck out his leg and tripped him.

With another “thump,” Gao Xinlin fell back to the ground.

He gritted his teeth and yelled, “Jiang Su!”

A prop blocked the view from behind, so besides the director and Gao Xinlin who were closest, no one saw Jiang Su trip him.

“Xinlin, how did you fall again?” The director pretended he saw nothing and turned with a worried look to help Gao Xinlin.

Gao Xinlin shook off the director’s hand and glared at Jiang Su. “I’m not done with you!”

The words had barely left his mouth when he fell back to the ground with another “thump.”

The director said apologetically, “I’m so sorry, Xinlin, my hand slipped…”

The director was quite thin and much shorter than Gao Xinlin, so it was plausible that he didn’t have the strength and his hand slipped.

Having fallen three times in a row, Gao Xinlin was dizzy and speechless from the falls.

He had never been so humiliated in his entire life! He would make Jiang Su pay!

“Do your fans know that a grown man like you still falls over on flat ground?” Jiang Su walked over, smiled, and extended a hand to Gao Xinlin. “You should be more careful when you walk in the future.”
