Chapter 129: Is This Business or Charity?
Lately, a lot had happened to Huo Qingyan.
Jiang Su found he couldn’t just stand by and do nothing, so he had intervened in Huo Qingyan’s affairs, intentionally avoiding the issues that lay between them.
But whether he avoided it or not, the problem between him and Huo Qingyan still existed.
You couldn’t just pretend something never happened by ignoring it.
Jiang Su looked directly into Huo Qingyan’s dark eyes. “My luck was pretty good before I met you, too.”
Huo Qingyan was the biggest obstacle in his otherwise smooth-sailing life.
A faint smile touched Huo Qingyan’s lips, tinged with an imperceptible bitterness. “From now on, your good luck will continue.”
After leaving him, all of Jiang Su’s misfortunes had ended.
From now on, Jiang Su would only do better and better.
When Huo Qingyan smiled like that, Jiang Su almost thought he was about to say “I’m sorry” again.
“I’ll take your word for it,” Jiang Su nodded and turned to walk out.
Huo Qingyan kept a distance of two steps behind him.
The clinic was open twenty-four hours.
The doctor on duty examined Huo Qingyan and diagnosed him with acute gastroenteritis. For faster relief, an IV drip was needed.
Jiang Su glanced at Huo Qingyan’s increasingly pale face and made the decision for him without asking.
“Give him the IV.”
Huo Qingyan silently allowed the nurse to insert the needle and start the drip.
Jiang Su checked the time. It was four in the morning.
The days were longer in the summer; the sun would be up in another two hours.
“Jiang Su, go back and get some rest.”
Hearing Huo Qingyan’s voice, Jiang Su looked up.
The clinic was simply furnished. Huo Qingyan sat on a red-lacquered bench with a movable IV stand next to him. One hand was getting the drip, while his other arm was still in a cast.
After all, a broken bone didn’t heal that quickly.
Jiang Su crossed his arms and sat down beside him. “I’m not sleepy anymore.”
Huo Qingyan moved his lips but said nothing more.
The clinic was extremely quiet. The bench wasn’t wide, and they sat close enough to hear each other’s breathing.
Jiang Su tilted his head back, squinting against the bright overhead light, and asked lazily, “Have you been very free lately?”
“It’s been okay,” Huo Qingyan replied, only then realizing the underlying meaning of Jiang Su’s question.
Huo Qingyan had been meddling in quite a few of the film crew’s affairs recently. Although Jiang Su hadn’t said anything, he knew.
A flicker of panic appeared in Huo Qingyan’s eyes. Usually so composed, he couldn’t think of a reasonable excuse for his actions.
He knew Jiang Su thought he was being nosy.
Just then, he heard Jiang Su say, “Don’t bother looking for an excuse. I wouldn’t believe it anyway.”
Huo Qingyan paused, a self-deprecating smile touching his lips. His voice was low. “If you don’t like it, I won’t interfere again.”
Life was too long.
Who could say they would never break a promise or tell a lie in their entire life?
Jiang Su stared at Huo Qingyan for a moment, unable to tell if he was being sincere, and decided to look away.
“Live your life well. Aunt Duan would want you to be happy.”
After all, it was a freedom Aunt Duan had traded her life for.
Huo Qingyan shouldn’t let her down.
“Jiang Su…” Huo Qingyan’s voice trembled slightly. Looking at Jiang Su’s resolute expression, he couldn’t say another word.
Jiang Su’s words had undoubtedly shattered his last sliver of hope.
He just wanted to watch Jiang Su from a distance, to do what he could for him.
But Jiang Su wouldn’t accept it.
The boundary was drawn crystal clear.
“Learn to take care of yourself. Special Assistant Zhou is already working hard enough,” Jiang Su said, his gaze sweeping over the needle in Huo Qingyan’s hand.
He genuinely hoped that Huo Qingyan would live a good life.
He had heard that after a divorce, there was a painful period that was hard to get through, but things would be fine once you did.
Even though Jiang Su had thought things through completely before the divorce, he had also gone through a difficult time.
He couldn’t believe the relationship was really over.
He was unwilling to accept his own failure.
But in the end, it was all in the past.
He could now face Huo Qingyan calmly.
After a long silence, Huo Qingyan responded with a single word: “Okay.”
…
As the sun rose above the horizon, Huo Qingyan’s IV drip finished.
Jiang Su and Huo Qingyan walked back to their accommodation in the morning light.
Their flight was at ten o’clock. Shen Xiumo had set his alarm for six.
Just as Jiang Su and Huo Qingyan entered the room, one after the other, Shen Xiumo’s alarm went off.
Shen Xiumo sat up with a messy mop of hair, squinting. “Where did you two go so early in the morning?”
“The clinic,” Jiang Su said, heading straight for the bathroom.
Shen Xiumo yawned, becoming a little more awake. He looked at Huo Qingyan’s pale face. “Are you sick?”
“Get up and pack,” Huo Qingyan said, ignoring his question and starting to gather his things.
Shen Xiumo sensed Huo Qingyan’s low spirits and didn’t press the issue.
The film crew arranged for a car to take them to the airport.
After getting in the car, Shen Xiumo leaned out the window and shouted to Jiang Su, “Jiang Su, the director just said you don’t have any scenes this morning. Are you really not going to see us off?”
“Goodbye,” Jiang Su replied.
Shen Xiumo waved at him with some disappointment and sat back down.
He turned to see Huo Qingyan staring out the window in a daze. He waved a hand in front of Huo Qingyan’s face.
After a few seconds, Huo Qingyan looked at him. “What is it?”
Shen Xiumo looked around, then took out a bottle of mineral water. “Want some water?”
He was just testing if Huo Qingyan was truly spacing out.
“No,” Huo Qingyan said expressionlessly and turned back to the window.
Now he was sure. Huo Qingyan was completely lovesick.
He felt like his chance to surpass Huo Qingyan had arrived!
On the way back to Qingyang City, Shen Xiumo spent the entire trip plotting how he would overtake Huo Qingyan once they were back.
But upon returning, he realized he had been overthinking things.
Not only did Huo Qingyan not become listless from being lovesick, but he also threw himself into work like a madman. He got involved in all sorts of events and projects.
Not only that, but he also started investing everywhere.
Like he was the god of wealth scattering money, as long as a project looked decent, Huo Qingyan would fund it without hesitation.
Of the five new projects planned by Huangsheng, Huo Qingyan invested in four.
He also invested in the Jiang Group’s new project.
He didn’t even spare Jiang Ying’s company’s projects.
Shen Xiumo thought Huo Qingyan had lost his mind.
Was this business or charity?
Overcome with curiosity, Shen Xiumo decided to ask Huo Qingyan out for a meal to sound him out.
When he called Huo Qingyan, Zhou Fu answered.
“President Shen?”
“Where’s your President Huo? Put him on the phone. I’m taking him to dinner tonight.”
Zhou Fu replied, “President Huo has a charity gala to attend this evening.”
Shen Xiumo: “…” So he was really doing charity now.
