Chapter 132: Did You See Jiang Su?
Jiang Zhishen was also taken aback. “You didn’t know?”
Fu Jin: “…”
Everyone, including Fu Jin, looked at Jiang Zhishen as if to say, “Are you an idiot?”
Only a small fraction of people in the upper-class circle knew about Jiang Su and Huo Qingyan’s marriage, let alone Fu Jin, who had no connection to that world.
Jiang Zhishen looked at Jiang Su, a little embarrassed.
Since Jiang Zhishen had already brought Fu Jin to have dinner with everyone, he was clearly not considered an outsider.
Jiang Su put down his chopsticks and admitted frankly, “Yes, Huo Qingyan and I have been divorced for over half a year.”
Clatter!
Fu Jin was so shocked that his chopsticks fell from his hand onto the table.
Was this bombshell gossip something he was supposed to hear so casually?
Jiang Zhishen silently picked up Fu Jin’s chopsticks and placed them back in his hand.
Fu Jin had seen his fair share of big scenes, and his expression quickly returned to normal.
But inside, he couldn’t help but be astonished.
His ex-husband was a top-tier business magnate, he was backed by the deeply-rooted Jiang family, his brother was a corporate CEO, and his sister was the owner of a famous entertainment company…
What kind of god-tier background was this?
He began to rack his brain, trying to remember if he had said anything during the filming of “Are You Happy After the Divorce?” that might have made Jiang Su hold a grudge against him.
Upon reflection, he realized he had said quite a lot.
It was just that Jiang Su had shot back at him every single time.
Fu Jin felt a slight sense of relief, though his calm tone was still laced with a hint of bewilderment. “I really couldn’t tell on the show…”
Actually, it wasn’t that he couldn’t tell.
It was mainly that no one would have ever thought in that direction.
Who could have imagined that a divorced couple would appear on the same show?
Jiang Su offered a small smile in response.
Mainly because he didn’t know what to say either.
Thinking back on it now, his decision to participate in that divorce show hosted by Shen Xiumo had been somewhat impulsive.
Jiang Zhaoyu cleared his throat. “Let’s eat. The food is getting cold.”
This was a clear attempt to move past the topic of collaborating with Huo Qingyan.
But Jiang Su wasn’t so easily fooled.
“What’s the deal with all of you collaborating with Huo Qingyan?”
Jiang Su glanced around the table, his index finger tapping lightly and intermittently against the side of his water glass.
The Jiang siblings exchanged glances.
It was Jiang Ying who spoke first. “I didn’t know it was him at first. I only found out after he had already invested the money…”
Jiang Su: “You didn’t sign a contract?”
Jiang Ying: “I only found out after signing.”
Jiang Su: “…” The extent of this blatant lie was truly eye-opening.
Next was Jiang Licuan. “Huo Qingyan brought people to my bar for drinks. I couldn’t exactly kick them out, could I?”
Jiang Su: “…”
Jiang Zhishen: “Same as my second sister.”
“I…” With all the excuses already taken, Jiang Zhaoyu couldn’t come up with a reason that would convince Jiang Su.
“A strategic cooperation agreement…” Jiang Su looked at Jiang Zhaoyu. “Big Brother, a collaboration of this magnitude couldn’t possibly be like Second Sister’s, where you only meet the person after the contract is signed, right?”
Jiang Zhaoyu took a sip of water to hide his embarrassment.
Jiang Su felt a smile tugging at his lips; he had never seen his eldest brother like this.
Jiang Zhaoyu pondered for a moment before saying very seriously, “Huo Qingyan offered excellent terms. As the head of the Jiang Corporation, I had no reason to refuse his offer. Of course, I didn’t take advantage of him either. It’s a mutually beneficial partnership.”
Besides being Jiang Su’s ex-husband, Huo Qingyan was also the CEO of the Huo Corporation.
Their world was only so big; in the grand scheme of things, it was difficult for the Jiang family to avoid the Huo Corporation entirely.
Jiang Su knew that his siblings had previously avoided working with Huo Qingyan specifically because of him.
He and Huo Qingyan had been divorced for over half a year, and in that time, Jiang Su’s state of mind had been steadily improving, which was why they could now work with Huo Qingyan with a clear conscience.
His siblings had truly worried themselves sick over him.
Jiang Su poured himself a full glass of wine, stood up, and raised it. “This is a good thing. I wish you all successful collaborations.”
A moment of silence fell over the room, and everyone’s expression grew a little more serious.
Fu Jin turned to Jiang Zhishen in confusion.
Why had the atmosphere suddenly become so heavy?
But in the next second, the mood in the room relaxed again, with a hint of joy in the air.
Fu Jin, still bewildered, raised his glass along with everyone else.
He didn’t know what was going on, but if everyone was happy, that was all that mattered.
…
Perhaps because they were so happy, everyone drank quite a bit.
Jiang Su drank the most.
When he left the private room, he was leaning against the wall for support.
His head felt heavy and his feet light. Walking on the flat ground felt like walking on stilts—wobbly and cautious. He even bumped into the wall twice.
Jiang Zhishen’s voice came from behind him. “Little Seven, are you going to be okay on your own?”
Jiang Su turned around, squinting to barely make out Jiang Zhishen, who was being supported by Fu Jin and almost took a nosedive. He answered very seriously, “I’m fine.”
He had to say he was fine even if he wasn’t.
He was afraid that if he said “I’m not fine,” his third brother would come over to help him.
He had no desire to perform a face-plant alongside his brother.
As a celebrity, he had to maintain his image.
Jiang Su took the elevator down to the first floor by himself.
The lobby manager was just seeing other guests out when he turned and saw Jiang Su emerging from the elevator. Other than his flushed face, he looked no different from a normal person.
But on closer inspection, one could see his unsteady steps; it was obvious he’d had too much to drink.
The lobby manager hurried over, intending to offer a hand. “Mr. Jiang, do you need me to arrange a car for you?”
“I’m not drunk…” Jiang Su pulled his hand back, his face a mask of refusal. “Why would you give me a car? I don’t want it. I have cars, lots of them.”
The lobby manager: “…”
Jiang Su had misheard “arrange a car for you” as “give you a car.” It seemed he had drunk a lot indeed.
The manager immediately had a car arranged. “Mr. Jiang, where is your home?”
Jiang Su settled into the car, leaned back, and relaxed completely, blurting out, “Cloud Top Mansion.”
Cloud Top Mansion was a luxury villa district. It was perfectly normal for the young master of the Jiang family to live there.
The manager had no suspicions and said to the driver, “Please make sure to get Mr. Jiang safely to Cloud Top Mansion. Thank you for your trouble.”
After watching the car with Jiang Su drive away, the manager turned to walk back into the hotel.
Before he could enter, he saw Huo Qingyan striding over hurriedly.
The manager nodded slightly. “President Huo.”
“Did you see Jiang Su?” Upstairs, Huo Qingyan had seen Jiang Su wobbling into the elevator alone from a distance. He had felt uneasy and followed him down, but when he got there, Jiang Su was gone.
The manager was surprised by the question. “I just called a car to send Mr. Jiang home.”
Although it was a hotel car, Huo Qingyan still felt worried.
After all, Jiang Su had looked very drunk.
Huo Qingyan took his car keys and went to the parking garage, driving directly to Jiang Su’s apartment.
But when he arrived downstairs, he didn’t see the hotel’s car.
