After Giving Up, My Rich Ex-Husband Begged Me to Return CHAPTER 149

Chapter 149: The Huo Group’s Largest Shareholder

Huo Qingyan sent Jiang Su several messages.

The content was all related to cooking, and Huo Qingyan even sent a few photos of the finished dishes.

Huo Qingyan had started researching cooking before the New Year, and it had been almost half a year now; his progress was significant.

Jiang Su didn’t know what they tasted like specifically, but the presentation looked quite good.

It seemed inappropriate to ask directly about the Huo Group and Bai Mu at this moment.

So, Jiang Su replied to Huo Qingyan: “Looks good.”

Meanwhile, Huo Qingyan was in the back kitchen of the Qingyang Grand Hotel, chopping vegetables.

His phone was placed next to the cutting board, and the screen lit up as soon as the new message arrived.

Huo Qingyan put down the kitchen knife and methodically wiped his hands with a towel before reaching for the phone.

His fingers had just touched the device, and before he could check the message, the sound of footsteps echoed from outside.

Judging by the sound, there were quite a few people.

A moment later, Bai Mu appeared at the door with a group of bodyguards. The manager of the Qingyang Grand Hotel followed behind them, speaking awkwardly, “President Huo, I…”

As a century-old asset of the Huo family, the Qingyang Grand Hotel had always operated independently and was managed solely by Huo Qingyan.

Naturally, the hotel staff only listened to Huo Qingyan.

Even though Bai Mu’s identity as the illegitimate son had been made public, the manager hadn’t let him in directly. Instead, he had respectfully stated he needed to ask Huo Qingyan for instructions, but Bai Mu had simply barged in with his men.

Huo Qingyan merely waved his hand slightly at the manager, signaling him to leave.

The manager breathed a sigh of relief. As he left, he glanced worriedly at Bai Mu’s group; they were aggressive and clearly came with ill intentions.

Huo Qingyan didn’t even look at Bai Mu directly; he picked up his phone to check the new message.

When he saw that the sender was Jiang Su, the corners of his lips lifted slightly. His long fingers tapped lightly on the screen as he typed a reply:

“The taste is alright too.”

Tapping his finger gently against the edge of the phone twice, Huo Qingyan sent another message: “When you return to the country, can you come over and help me taste the dishes?”

He had moved back to the villa before the New Year and started cooking there initially. Later, Jiang Su mentioned that the hotel kitchen had a more complete stock of ingredients, so he came here to practice his culinary skills instead.

Jiang Su’s side showed “Typing…”, but the message didn’t come through for a long time.

Bai Mu, who had been ignored since entering the room, finally spoke up with a sneer, “The dignified President of the Huo Group, holed up in this back kitchen cooking. If word got out, people would laugh their teeth off!”

He had come specifically to see Huo Qingyan’s pathetic state after losing the halo of the Huo Group President.

But Huo Qingyan’s calm, indifferent demeanor—showing neither joy nor anger—made Bai Mu feel as if he were the joke.

Huo Qingyan clearly had nothing left; what right did he have to be so self-satisfied?

“People need to eat to live.” Huo Qingyan finally raised his eyes to look at Bai Mu.

But after a single glance, he turned back and continued chopping vegetables.

Huo Qingyan looked completely at ease, as if cooking was more important to him than the Huo Group.

Bai Mu felt a faint sense of defeat.

The things he had exhausted every scheme to obtain, Huo Qingyan treated with utter disdain.

Gritting his teeth in anger, Bai Mu took a long, deep breath and spoke slowly, “You are no longer the master of the Huo Group. Do you think Jiang Su will spare you another glance?”

The sound of chopping stopped abruptly.

Knowing he had hit Huo Qingyan’s sore spot, a smug look resurfaced on Bai Mu’s face.

“Do you know how many years I planned for today? At first, I thought you were a pervert like Huo Zhenheng. Later, I realized you were different from him because you married Jiang Su… Heh, I really didn’t expect you to be such a lovesick fool.”

Huo Qingyan didn’t look up, his voice deep and cold. “You should be glad Jiang Su is safe and sound.”

Back then, after Bai Mu contacted him, he had sent people to find Jiang Su.

But Bai Mu had come prepared. He had cleaned up all traces of Jiang Su’s movements before he entered the Yasgrug Canyon prior to contacting Huo Qingyan.

Huo Qingyan’s people couldn’t find Jiang Su.

Even if there were countless guesses proving Jiang Su would likely be fine, Huo Qingyan didn’t dare gamble on that one-in-ten-thousand chance.

He wanted Jiang Su’s absolute safety.

His people had been guarding the location constantly, and as soon as Jiang Su emerged from the Yasgrug Canyon, someone had reported the news to him.

Bai Mu scoffed. “It seems Jiang Su has already come out of the Yasgrug Canyon.”

His original plan had indeed been to capture Jiang Su to threaten Huo Qingyan.

But Jiang Su was too cautious. Bai Mu couldn’t find an opening, and he worried the Jiang family would come after him afterward. So, he took a risk and set up this bluff to trick Huo Qingyan.

The main factor that made it work was that photo.

The risk was high, but the return was substantial.

The moment Jiang Su appeared, Huo Qingyan would know the truth.

But so what if he knew the truth?

The Huo Group was already his.

Bai Mu paced in front of Huo Qingyan, extremely triumphant. “My kind and generous brother, don’t forget to attend the shareholder meeting next Monday.”

With such a major change in the group, a shareholder meeting naturally had to be held.

Bai Mu left with his men, just as he had arrived.

Seeing Bai Mu leave, the manager hurriedly came over to check on Huo Qingyan. “President Huo, are you alright?”

Huo Qingyan had finished chopping the vegetables and was preparing to cook. Seeing the manager approach, he instructed, “Bring me the chopped chili peppers from over there.”

“Oh.” The manager dazedly brought the chopped chilies over. “President Huo…”

Huo Qingyan took the chilies. “The fumes are heavy here. If there’s nothing else, you should go out.”

Manager: “…”

Was President Huo really not possessed?

He didn’t want the company, didn’t care that an illegitimate son was bullying him to his face, and his heart was set only on cooking.

The manager left the kitchen, filled with worry.

Jiang Su looked at the message Huo Qingyan sent: [When you return to the country, can you come over and help me taste the dishes?]

After a long internal struggle, he replied to Huo Qingyan with a single word: “Sure.”

The dishes Huo Qingyan made now looked much better than before; they probably wouldn’t send anyone to the hospital again.

Even if he did end up in the hospital, it didn’t matter—at least it proved there was a cure.

Look at Shen Xiumo and Zhou Fu; weren’t they living just fine?

To this, Huo Qingyan only replied with three words: “Waiting for you.”

Huo Qingyan made it sound as if he were coming back very soon.

After putting down his phone, Jiang Su remembered that he had messaged Huo Qingyan to ask about the company…

In the end, he got sidetracked by Huo Qingyan.

Jiang Su actually didn’t have much desire to continue traveling, but since he was already there, it felt like a loss not to play for a few more days.

He even planned out his itinerary for the next few days.

The imagination was beautiful.

But the reality was…

The next afternoon, Jiang Su received a very baffling phone call.

“Mr. Jiang, the Huo Group will hold a shareholder meeting next Monday. The invitation has been sent to your email.”

“What does your shareholder meeting have to do with me?” What kind of confusing behavior was this?

“As the largest shareholder of the Huo Group, please be sure to attend the shareholder meeting.”

Jiang Su: “??”
