Chapter 153: I Don’t Want to Talk About That Day Right Now
Before the shareholders left, Huo Qingyan also stood up and nodded slightly. “Thank you all for your trust.”
The shareholders quickly left the conference room; not a single person paid attention to Bai Mu, who was losing his mind on the side.
Jiang Su turned to look at Huo Qingyan, dumbfounded. “That’s it?”
Huo Qingyan merely curled his lips.
One had to admit, these shareholders were decisive and ruthless enough to completely ignore Bai Mu.
It was easy to imagine how much they must have made things difficult for Huo Qingyan when he first took over the Huo Group.
Jiang Su’s feelings were complicated.
He had been nervous for so long, yet it ended in just a few minutes…
“Huo Qingyan! Since when exactly have you been plotting against me!!”
Bai Mu had been cursing Huo Qingyan earlier, and his voice was now hoarse.
“I should be asking you that.” Huo Qingyan slowly walked up to Bai Mu. “Knowing that Jiang Su and I were married, yet keeping the fact that you are Huo Zhenheng’s illegitimate son airtight—that isn’t something that can be achieved overnight.”
Bai Mu’s smile turned eerie. “It’s more than just that.”
Huo Qingyan’s eyes suddenly turned cold. “What else?”
“You’re so smart, you guess.” Bai Mu finished speaking and burst into maniacal laughter again.
He laughed until he was out of breath. “Can’t guess? Then let me tell you. To help you get the shares from Huo Zhenheng’s hands, I put in a lot of effort, hahaha… cough…”
Huo Qingyan grabbed Bai Mu by the neck, tightening his grip incessantly, repeating two words: “It was you…”
“Huo Qingyan!” Jiang Su called him, but he didn’t react at all, as if possessed.
Jiang Su tried to pry Huo Qingyan’s fingers apart but couldn’t move them for the life of him.
“You’re going to strangle him to death!”
Bai Mu’s face was starting to turn blue.
With no other option, Jiang Su gritted his teeth and said, “So back then, when you almost strangled me to death at the Hot Spring Villa, you looked just like this ghastly sight!”
Huo Qingyan froze, slowly turning his head to look at Jiang Su.
Jiang Su took the opportunity to pull him away.
Bai Mu gasped heavily, collapsing onto the floor.
Jiang Su immediately signaled the bodyguards to drag Bai Mu aside, away from Huo Qingyan.
Suddenly, a muffled cough came from behind. Immediately followed by a bodyguard’s cry of alarm.
“Huo… President Huo is coughing up blood!”
Jiang Su turned around and saw Huo Qingyan leaning against the corner of the table, barely supporting his body. As if drained of all strength, he slowly slid toward the floor.
“Huo Qingyan!”
The corners of Huo Qingyan’s mouth were covered in blood, staining the collar of his white shirt red. Jiang Su helped him up, getting blood all over his hands in the flurry.
Staring at the blood on his hands, Jiang Su’s mind buzzed. “Call an ambulance!”
…
At the Hospital…
“He has been suffering from long-term pent-up depression. The vomiting of blood was caused by a sudden surge of extreme anger attacking the heart. Let him take some medicine to regulate it first, and let him rest well…”
The doctor walked out of the ward and spoke to Jiang Su about Huo Qingyan’s condition.
Jiang Su glanced at the ward door and asked the doctor, “Can he recover?”
Doctor: “Medicine only plays a supporting role. The main thing is to keep him in good spirits. He should wake up soon; go take a look. I have other patients.”
“Thank you, doctor.”
His phone vibrated several times.
Jiang Su took out his phone and found that Jiang Licuan and the others had created a new group. This time, the group name was: “Billionaire President Jiang (Little Seven)’s Fan Club.”
Jiang Su: “…”
They even specifically noted in parentheses that this “President Jiang” referred to him; how particular.
Second Sister: “President Jiang is here!”
Eldest Brother: “President Jiang.”
Old Six: “President Jiang, from now on Huo Qingyan has to work for you. How do you feel right now?”
Jiang Su: “How do you guys know Huo Qingyan will be working for me in the future?”
He had been busy bringing Huo Qingyan to the hospital and hadn’t had time to tell his family the results of the meeting.
Fourth Sister: “Trending topics.”
She then threw two screenshots of the trending topics to Jiang Su:
#Huo Qingyan Continues to Serve as CEO of Huo Group#
The trending topic was straightforward; the headline was the content.
Whether it was the official Weibo or marketing accounts, they all held the same narrative, only stating that Huo Qingyan would continue as President, without mentioning a word about Jiang Su now being the largest shareholder of the Huo Group.
Jiang Su instantly understood that this must have been arranged by Huo Qingyan early on.
Jiang Su returned to WeChat: “@Old Six, regarding the fact that Zhou Fu is about to return to the Huo Group to continue working for Huo Qingyan, do you have any thoughts?”
Old Six: “…”
Jiang Su: “Something came up, talk later.”
When Jiang Su returned to the ward, Huo Qingyan was already awake.
He was staring blankly out the window, his gaze only gradually coming into focus when he turned to see Jiang Su.
The two looked at each other in silence.
After a while, Jiang Su walked to the window and opened it a bit wider.
The weather was nice today, sunny and breezy.
“Have you eaten?” Huo Qingyan’s hoarse voice came from behind.
“Not hungry yet.” Having eaten breakfast early, Jiang Su really wasn’t hungry.
Huo Qingyan wanted to say more, but the phone on the bedside table rang.
Jiang Su thought to himself that with Huo Qingyan’s weak and powerless state, he probably didn’t even have the strength to hold the phone.
He walked over and handed the phone to Huo Qingyan.
He stole a glance at the phone in the process; it was Zhou Fu calling.
“Thank you.”
When Huo Qingyan answered the phone, he mostly said “Mm” or “Understood,” so Jiang Su couldn’t deduce what Zhou Fu was saying from Huo Qingyan’s words.
He simply took out his own phone and started playing with it.
After a while, Jiang Su realized he hadn’t heard Huo Qingyan speak for some time. He looked up and found that Huo Qingyan had long finished the call and was staring at him.
Their eyes met, and Huo Qingyan was the first to look away, his expression looking somewhat beleaguered.
Jiang Su put down his phone. “The doctor said your body needs proper rest.”
Huo Qingyan straightened up a bit against the headboard and nodded slightly.
The ward returned to its initial silence.
A moment later, both of them spoke at the same time.
“The Hot Spring Villa…”
“About Bai Mu…”
Both froze.
Jiang Su spoke first, “How do you plan to handle the Bai Mu situation?”
Before Huo Qingyan could speak, Jiang Su added on his own, “That’s your business, I’m just asking casually.”
Huo Qingyan spoke again, his voice dry, “That night at the Hot Spring Villa…”
Jiang Su suddenly stood up, interrupting Huo Qingyan.
“I’m a little hungry.”
“Jiang Su…”
“I don’t want to talk about that day right now.”
More than a year had passed, yet Jiang Su found he still couldn’t calmly discuss what happened that night at the Hot Spring Villa with anyone.
He didn’t even want to recall it.
If he hadn’t been afraid that Huo Qingyan would really strangle Bai Mu earlier, he absolutely wouldn’t have brought it up.
When people are sad to a certain degree, they seem to automatically activate a self-protection mechanism, blocking out those things that make them sad.
As if as long as you don’t touch it, it doesn’t exist.
—Knock, knock!
A knock came from outside.
“President Huo.”
Zhou Fu pushed the door open and entered, nodding slightly at Jiang Su. “Mr. Jiang.”
“I’m going to go eat.” Jiang Su walked straight out.
