After Giving Up, My Rich Ex-Husband Begged Me to Return Chapter 22

Chapter 22: Still a Big Shot

Huo Qingyan seemed calm, as if he was just casually mentioning it. He continued to eat attentively, not looking at Jiang Su.

Jiang Su swallowed, and managed to squeeze out a word: “Okay.”

Hearing this, Huo Qingyan looked up and served Jiang Su some food: “You should eat more too.”

It might have been his imagination, but he felt Jiang Su seemed to have lost weight recently.

The next morning.

Jiang Su got up early to make breakfast and packed it on the table.

When Huo Qingyan got up, he handed him the packed breakfast.

Huo Qingyan noticed the weight of the breakfast box and looked at Jiang Su questioningly.

Jiang Su explained, “I also made some for Special Assistant Zhou. He works so hard for you and is very dedicated.”

Zhou Fu was indeed dedicated and hardworking, but Huo Qingyan paid him a high salary.

He was just worried that after Huo Qingyan gave the breakfast to Lin Siyue, he would simply make do with something else, or skip it altogether.

“Zhou Fu will be very grateful to you.” Huo Qingyan had a brief moment of doubt, but it quickly dissipated. Jiang Su was originally a very thoughtful and considerate person.

Zhou Fu was already waiting outside the gate to drive Huo Qingyan to work.

The weather was getting colder, so Huo Qingyan didn’t let Jiang Su see him off at the gate.

Jiang Su stood at the entrance of the hall, watching Huo Qingyan disappear outside the courtyard before slowly closing the door.

Zhou Fu saw Huo Qingyan come out and got out of the car to open the back door for him.

After Huo Qingyan got into the car, Zhou Fu stared at the lunchbox beside him and asked, “Mr. Huo, you brought breakfast again?”

Huo Qingyan answered with a question: “Zhou Fu, you don’t like Western breakfast, do you?”

Zhou Fu had studied abroad for several years and was used to Western breakfast.

“Of course, I…” But after seeing Huo Qingyan’s cool gaze in the rearview mirror, the perceptive Zhou Fu changed his words: “I don’t like it; not at all. I’m not used to it.”

“Oh.” Huo Qingyan sounded disappointed: “Jiang Su also prepared some for you. I guess it’ll have to go to Lin Siyue then.”

Zhou Fu: “…”

Zhou Fu thought of the delicious-looking breakfast he saw yesterday morning and felt sorry for himself.

Ten minutes after Huo Qingyan left, Jiang Su also drove out.

The wound on his arm had completely healed, and driving was not a problem.

When he arrived at the hospital entrance, he saw Huo Qingyan and Zhou Fu leaving.

At the entrance of Lin Siyue’s ward, he saw Lin Siyue throwing the breakfast into the trash can.

Sure enough, Huo Qingyan had given one of the breakfasts to Lin Siyue.

Jiang Su didn’t disturb anyone and left as quietly as he had come.

Cheng Xishi’s movie premiere was in the afternoon, and he didn’t plan to go home.

Jiang Ying’s company was nearby, so he planned to spend some time there before going to Cheng Xishi’s movie premiere.

Before going to Jiang Ying’s company, Jiang Su went to the cake shop Jiang Ying frequented and bought a matcha cake, Jiang Ying’s favorite.

The receptionist at Dingyue Media recognized Jiang Su and let him up before calling Jiang Ying’s secretary.

When Jiang Su arrived at Jiang Ying’s office, Jiang Ying, having already been informed by the secretary, was waiting for him.

As soon as Jiang Ying saw Jiang Su, she teased, “Rare guest! It’s neither a holiday nor the New Year; you actually bothered to come to my company to see me.”

“Second Sister.” Jiang Su didn’t get angry, smiling as he placed the cake on her desk. “I brought this for you.”

As soon as Jiang Ying saw the cake, she couldn’t pretend anymore and urged Jiang Su, “You haven’t had breakfast yet. Quickly open it for me.”

Jiang Su opened the cake for her, handed her a fork, and personally made her a cup of coffee.

“Just say what’s on your mind.” Jiang Ying felt that Jiang Su wouldn’t have come to see her without a reason.

Jiang Su was a little helpless: “Second Sister, is that how you see me? I really don’t have anything; I just came to see you.”

Jiang Ying was half-believing: “Really?”

Jiang Su had to tell Jiang Ying about attending Cheng Xishi’s movie premiere.

Unexpectedly, when Jiang Ying heard this, her expression changed slightly: “You don’t know that Cheng Xishi’s premiere has been canceled?”

Jiang Su frowned slightly: “When did this happen?”

“It must have been last night. The news just came out and hasn’t been officially announced yet, so it’s normal that you don’t know.” News within the entertainment circle naturally spreads first among those in the industry.

Jiang Ying added, “Cheng Xishi should call you soon to tell you.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Jiang Su’s phone rang.

It was Cheng Xishi calling.

“Jiang Su.” Cheng Xishi’s tone sounded normal. “My movie premiere has been canceled.”

Jiang Su asked, “What’s the reason?”

The Lunar New Year film screenings had strict reviews. They’d confirmed the premiere date and made all the preparations. Why would it be canceled so easily?

Cheng Xishi seemed to sense Jiang Su’s concern and said reassuringly, “Maybe there’s a problem with the content. But it’s okay. It should still be able to make the release date.”

Jiang Su was about to speak when Cheng Xishi spoke first, “Don’t worry. It’ll be handled. We’ll have dinner another time.”

After hanging up, Jiang Ying asked him, “Did Cheng Xishi say why?”

“He said there was a problem with the content.” Jiang Su also looked puzzled.

Jiang Ying scoffed, but didn’t speak.

Jiang Ying herself owned an entertainment company and worked as a producer; she was very familiar with this process.

Jiang Su asked Jiang Ying, “Second Sister, do you know something?”

“Cheng Xishi is currently very popular and has high commercial value. Many investors like him. If I hadn’t missed the opportunity, I would have invested in his film…”

Jiang Ying expressed her regret before continuing, “Investors all want to make money. They wouldn’t make such a low-level mistake.”

Seeing Jiang Su still looking bewildered, Jiang Ying said impatiently, “To put it bluntly, someone deliberately sabotaged Cheng Xishi. It’s a big shot, or do you think those investors are just eating for fun and can’t even handle something this small?”

Jiang Su’s expression darkened: “Who could this big shot be?”

Jiang Ying asked him back: “Who do you think? In Qinyang City, how many people have this kind of ability?”

Yes, how many people had this ability?

Jiang Su already had the answer in his heart, but he just couldn’t believe it.

He couldn’t believe that Huo Qingyan would actually do such a thing.

On the day he and Cheng Xishi were trending, Huo Qingyan had said that provoking him wouldn’t benefit Jiang Su.

Later, he and Huo Qingyan had reconciled; he thought the matter was over.

Unexpectedly, Huo Qingyan had already secretly targeted Cheng Xishi.

Jiang Su’s expression turned cold, and he stood up: “Second Sister, I’ll be going now.”
