Chapter 38: Why Didn’t You Say You’re Allergic to Peanuts?
Standing at the door of Huo Qingyan’s house, Jiang Su reached out to knock.
After knocking on the door, he smiled. Realizing that he had completely freed himself from this hopeless marriage, he couldn’t help but feel happy.
Huo Qingyan opened the door and the first thing he saw was Jiang Su with a face full of smiles.
They had only officially finalized their divorce procedures yesterday morning, and seeing Jiang Su again felt like a lifetime ago.
He was momentarily lost in thought.
“Mr. Huo.”
Jiang Su’s voice pulled him back to his senses.
Huo Qingyan belatedly reacted: “What did you call me?”
Usually, everyone called him Mr. Huo, and family members called him Qingyan. Except for Jiang Su, almost no one called him by his full name.
Or rather, they dared not call him by his full name.
Only Jiang Su, even when calling him by his full name, could make him feel comfortable and close.
But now, Jiang Su was formally calling him: Mr. Huo.
Jiang Su’s smile was distant: “Mr. Huo, will you help me get the trophy, or should I go in and get it myself?”
Huo Qingyan said coldly: “Get it yourself.”
“Okay.” Jiang Su gave a perfunctory smile, took out shoe covers from his bag, put them on, and walked inside.
He brought his own shoe covers; he didn’t want to touch anything else in this house.
Huo Qingyan was very intelligent and immediately understood Jiang Su’s intentions.
Suppressed anger erupted like a wild beast, and Huo Qingyan stepped forward and grabbed Jiang Su’s wrist: “Jiang Su, what are you trying to do?”
He had been so devoted to him, but now he was getting a divorce and acting so decisively.
It seemed like he would never look back.
“I should be asking you that, Mr. Huo.” Jiang Su sensed that Huo Qingyan didn’t want to hear him call him “Mr. Huo,” and he insisted on calling him that.
Huo Qingyan’s expression visibly darkened: “Why did you announce your comeback so publicly?”
Jiang Su impatiently broke free from his grasp: “For my dreams, for the Little Jiangzai who love me.”
Huo Qingyan frowned: “Who are the Little Jiangzai?”
Huo Qingyan didn’t care about Jiang Su and naturally didn’t know that his fans were called Little Jiangzai.
Jiang Su thought of his fans, his heart warmed, and he became even more impatient with Huo Qingyan: “None of your business!”
“You…” Huo Qingyan looked at him in disbelief.
Jiang Su ignored him, went upstairs, found his trophy, and put it in his backpack.
Huo Qingyan was smoking downstairs and heard Jiang Su coming downstairs, so he turned to look at Jiang Su.
But Jiang Su didn’t even look at him and walked straight to the door.
However, the door was suddenly pushed open.
“Huo Qingyan!”
Huo Zhenheng stormed in, and when he saw Jiang Su, his expression softened: “Little Seven is here too.”
“Uncle Huo.” Jiang Su and Huo Qingyan were divorced, but he still had to show respect to his elders.
Huo Zhenheng managed a forced smile: “I heard that you two got divorced?”
“Yes.” He and Huo Qingyan got married and divorced by simply registering, and he thought Huo Qingyan would tell Huo Zhenheng himself.
He didn’t expect Huo Zhenheng to not know.
“Good.” Huo Zhenheng picked up an ashtray nearby and threw it directly at Huo Qingyan. “Such a big thing, and you dared to hide it from me!”
Huo Qingyan timely dodged, but his temple was still hit.
Blood immediately gushed out.
Jiang Su looked at Huo Zhenheng in shock.
Huo Zhenheng and Huo Qingyan had a distant relationship and didn’t seem like father and son, but he didn’t expect Huo Zhenheng to just casually hit Huo Qingyan.
Huo Qingyan seemed not to feel the pain, letting the blood seep from his temple: “There’s no need to tell you.”
Huo Zhenheng was furious, walked over, and raised his hand to hit Huo Qingyan.
But Huo Qingyan grabbed his hand: “Enough.”
Huo Zhenheng tried to pull his hand away but failed.
He suddenly realized that the Huo Qingyan in front of him was no longer the child he could hit and scold at will.
Huo Zhenheng took several deep breaths, suppressed his anger, and said to Jiang Su: “Little Seven, let’s have lunch together, okay?”
His tone was unusually calm; if he hadn’t witnessed it with his own eyes, it would be hard to imagine that he had been furious and wanted to hit someone just a second ago.
“Okay.” Jiang Su also felt it necessary to explain things clearly to Huo Zhenheng.
…
Jiang Su and the other two went to the Qingyang Hotel.
A waiter came to take their order, and Huo Zhenheng instructed: “Serve a few signature dishes, but don’t add peanuts to the dishes, some of us are allergic to peanuts.”
Huo Qingyan suddenly raised his head to look at Jiang Su.
Neither he nor Huo Zhenheng were allergic to peanuts; the only person among the three who could be allergic to peanuts was Jiang Su.
When Jiang Su and Huo Qingyan first got married, Huo Zhenheng invited Jiang Su to dinner, and Jiang Su mentioned his peanut allergy at that time; Huo Zhenheng still remembered it.
Noticing Huo Qingyan’s gaze, Jiang Su simply glanced at him indifferently and began talking to Huo Zhenheng.
“Uncle Huo, we didn’t tell you about my divorce from Huo Qingyan; that’s our fault, but we divorced after careful consideration, it’s not a joke.”
Careful consideration, not a joke…
Jiang Su’s words made Huo Qingyan’s heart sink continuously.
It turned out that before the divorce, Jiang Su had already been considering it carefully?
But when did Jiang Su start wanting a divorce? Why didn’t he notice at all?
Seeing Jiang Su’s firm attitude, Huo Zhenheng didn’t say much, just gave Huo Qingyan a cold glance and then answered a phone call and left.
Only Jiang Su and Huo Qingyan were left at the table.
Jiang Su found it strange; in the past, he always wanted to be with Huo Qingyan, but now, sitting face to face with Huo Qingyan at the same table, he only felt annoyed.
He picked up his bag and put it on his shoulder, intending to leave.
Huo Qingyan suddenly said, “Why didn’t you say you’re allergic to peanuts?”
The last time they had eaten near the company, he ordered a peanut dessert for Jiang Su, and Jiang Su ate it all.
Jiang Su seemed to hear a funny joke and laughed, “Didn’t I say so?”
The floodgates of memory were suddenly opened.
Around the time they got married, Jiang Su liked to eat a cake covered with peanut crumbs and specially brought it to Huo Qingyan, saying it was delicious.
Huo Qingyan didn’t like sweets and didn’t try a bite.
Jiang Su had to scrape off the peanut crumbs and throw them away before eating.
Huo Qingyan asked him, “Why don’t you eat peanuts?”
Jiang Su said, “Allergic.”
It was clearly two years ago, but the memory was so clear.
So clear that it made Huo Qingyan’s body go cold; he unconsciously clenched his hand on the table, and even when he knocked over his water glass, he didn’t notice.
He asked in a hoarse voice, “Then, when did you start wanting a divorce?”
“When I realized that I should live like a person.” Jiang Su didn’t want to think about those dark and hopeless two years of marriage, and left quickly after speaking.
The gentleness and thoughtfulness Jiang Su had shown him in the past was now as deadly to Huo Qingyan as these words.
