After Giving Up, My Rich Ex-Husband Begged Me to Return CHAPTER 59

Chapter 59: As a Public Figure, I Wouldn’t Threaten Anyone

Jiang ZhaoYu was still uneasy.

Huo Zhenheng had spent his life in the business world; how could Jiang Su be his match?

But his assistant called, saying there was an urgent matter at the company that required Jiang ZhaoYu’s immediate attention.

Jiang Su seized the opportunity to urge Jiang ZhaoYu again: “Don’t worry, aren’t your bodyguards still here? In public, he can’t whip me, can he?”

Jiang ZhaoYu remained silent for a moment, then nodded.

Before leaving, he instructed the bodyguards to call him immediately if anything happened.

Just after seeing Jiang ZhaoYu off, Zhou Fu called Jiang Su.

Jiang Su realized he hadn’t yet called Zhou Fu.

Zhou Fu anxiously asked, “Mr. Jiang, how is Mr. Huo?”

Jiang Su replied lightly, “He’s alive; he’s in the hospital.”

Just hearing “He’s alive” was reassuring.

Zhou Fu paused: “Is Mr. Huo seriously injured?”

“Very seriously. Has Huo Zhenheng left?” If Huo Zhenheng had already left the Huo Group, he would likely come here soon.

Zhou Fu said seriously, “He just left. How badly is Mr. Huo injured? Which hospital? Is he going to be alright?”

“Come by in a couple of days.” If Zhou Fu came now, Huo Zhenheng would realize he was involved in saving Huo Qingyan.

Huo Zhenheng was wary of the Jiang family and wouldn’t dare touch Jiang Su, but dealing with Zhou Fu would be a simple matter.

Jiang Su didn’t give Zhou Fu a chance to respond, quickly hanging up.

At that moment, the emergency room door opened.

Jiang Su immediately went over.

The doctor removed his mask: “The patient is out of danger; he’ll wake up once the anesthesia wears off.”

Jiang Su nodded slightly: “Thank you, Doctor.”

Just as Jiang Su and the doctor escorted Huo Qingyan to the ward, Huo Zhenheng arrived aggressively with his men.

Huo Zhenheng’s expression was sinister, clearly indicating trouble. The doctor frowned slightly, reaching for his phone to call the police.

Jiang Su quickly stopped the doctor: “He’s the patient’s family.”

Since he was family, he might be acting aggressively due to worry, the doctor thought, and didn’t call the police, leaving with the nurse.

This left no outsiders in the room.

Huo Zhenheng’s men closed the ward door.

“Xiao Qi, Huo Bo (Uncle Huo) actually likes you, but what you did this time deeply hurt him.” He spoke of hurt, but his face showed no such emotion.

“I’m sorry, it wasn’t my intention to hurt Uncle Huo.” Jiang Su apologized, but his tone lacked sincerity.

Jiang Su glanced back at Huo Qingyan, who was wearing an oxygen mask, before continuing.

“I think Uncle Huo has heard that I’ve recently returned to the entertainment industry. Though my reputation isn’t great, I have attention; a single Weibo post draws tens of thousands of comments from haters. If I posted about a business prodigy being abused by his father, it would likely quickly become a trending topic and spread across the internet, wouldn’t it?”

The more innocent Jiang Su sounded, with his serious inquiry and wry smile, the more unsightly Huo Zhenheng’s expression became.

Huo Zhenheng said darkly, “Are you threatening me?”

Jiang Su shook his head with a smile: “I’m a public figure now; how could I do something like threaten someone?”

He turned to Xu Mocheng and gestured; Xu Mocheng handed him a transparent sealed bag containing a riding crop.

The riding crop was made of pure cowhide, tightly woven. The handle and half of the whip were brown; the other half was stained with dried blood, appearing dark brown.

The moment Huo Zhenheng saw the riding crop, his expression turned grim, his eyes filled with killing intent.

“Jiang Su! Meddling in other people’s business will only cause trouble for your Jiang family!”

Jiang Su’s expression also turned cold: “This riding crop is quite old. It’s so worn and still hanging in the secret room, it must have been used frequently. If I hand this over to the police, they should be able to find your and Huo Qingyan’s DNA on it. That would cause Uncle Huo quite a bit of trouble, wouldn’t it?”

Huo Zhenheng’s tone became even more urgent: “You dare!”

They say even tigers don’t eat their cubs. Someone as twisted as Huo Zhenheng, who could treat his own son so cruelly, must have a lot of skeletons in his closet.

If Jiang Su reported it, Huo Zhenheng would be in deep trouble.

Jiang Su remained silent, coldly confronting him, showing no sign of backing down.

He showed Huo Zhenheng that if he persisted, he would dare.

Huo Zhenheng took several deep breaths before suppressing his anger.

“You and your brother are far better than your useless father!” Huo Zhenheng said grimly before leaving with his men.

Xu Mocheng went to the door to check that Huo Zhenheng and his men were gone before returning to Jiang Su: “They’re gone.”

“Mm.” Jiang Su only responded, remaining in his previous position.

Xu Mocheng looked confused: “I said they’re gone, and you…”

Jiang Su pursed his lips: “Give me a hand!”

He spoke too quickly; Xu Mocheng didn’t understand: “What?”

Jiang Su said exasperatedly: “I said! I’m so scared my legs are stiff, help me up!”

Xu Mocheng was stunned, quickly helping Jiang Su sit down: “You didn’t seem scared at all by Huo Zhenheng; you were very calm…”

Jiang Su irritably kicked Xu Mocheng: “Huo Zhenheng is a psychopath! Weren’t you nervous just now?”

Xu Mocheng rubbed his leg where Jiang Su had kicked him: “I was nervous, but seeing you so calm, I wasn’t as nervous…”

Jiang Su: “…”

He wished he hadn’t told Xu Mocheng he was scared; it was embarrassing.

A weak voice came from the bed.

“Jiang Su…”

Jiang Su paused, walking to the bedside: “You’re awake.”

Huo Qingyan had many wounds, but none were deep; he’d mostly lost too much blood.

“Huo…” He was still weak and spoke slowly.

Jiang Su impatiently interrupted, “You mean Huo Zhenheng?”

Huo Qingyan nodded, though the bandage made it barely noticeable.

Jiang Su looked at him: “He just left.”

Huo Qingyan’s eyes widened slightly, showing concern: “He…”

Jiang Su accurately guessed Huo Qingyan’s thoughts: “He didn’t hurt me; I even annoyed him away.”

Huo Qingyan showed a relieved look.

Seeing him weak and ill, Jiang Su became irritated: “When you argued with me over Lin Siyue, you were strong enough. Why are you so helpless against Huo Zhenheng?”

Xu Mocheng quietly tugged on Jiang Su’s sleeve: “He’s a patient; maybe say less?”
