Chapter 61: Not That Short-Lived
For a moment, a strange silence filled the ward.
A sudden, out-of-the-blue “I’m sorry” was understood by everyone present, who all looked at Huo Qingyan.
Huo Qingyan was still looking at Jiang Su.
It was a look that sought judgment.
At the hot spring resort, before Jiang Su received his brother’s call, he had wondered how long it would take him to forgive Huo Qingyan if he apologized.
After all this time, he had received Huo Qingyan’s apology.
It felt like finally getting the remote-control car he’d longed for at age seven, at the age of thirty.
But what was the point?
He no longer wanted it, didn’t need it.
After a long silence, Jiang Su looked away, saying softly, “Da Xu, Lao Liu, let’s go.”
He left the ward first.
The expectation in Huo Qingyan’s eyes faded, his gaze becoming dull.
Jiang LiChuan came to his senses, muttering as he left: “Thank you, then sorry… what a psychopath…”
When Jiang LiChuan and Xu Mocheng caught up with Jiang Su, the elevator arrived.
The elevator doors opened, and the three entered.
Jiang LiChuan and Xu Mocheng stood on either side of Jiang Su, carefully observing his expression.
Jiang Su simply watched the floor indicator in the elevator, his expression calm, revealing nothing of his thoughts.
Jiang LiChuan furrowed his brow, tentatively saying, “Xiao Qi, you haven’t eaten yet, have you? Let’s go get something to eat later?”
Jiang Su immediately replied, “Okay.”
His reply was quick, and his tone was normal, indicating he was alright.
After confirming Jiang Su was fine, Jiang LiChuan couldn’t help correcting him: “You called me Lao Liu again; you’re supposed to call me Sixth Brother!”
The elevator doors opened.
Jiang Su took out his phone and sent Jiang LiChuan a video.
Then, he looked at Jiang LiChuan leisurely and called out, “Sixth Brother.”
Jiang LiChuan’s phone vibrated. He didn’t know it was a video from Jiang Su, so while checking his phone, he nodded satisfiedly: “That’s more like it…”
Before he could finish, Jiang LiChuan swore, “Shit!”
The video Jiang Su sent was from his divorce day, when he and Jiang LiChuan were drinking at “Wangchuan.”
Jiang LiChuan had been drunk, rolling around on the floor, even under the table.
A complete mess.
Unwatchable.
Jiang LiChuan glared at Jiang Su: “You’re my brother, alright!”
“Hey!” Jiang Su responded loudly, putting his arm around Jiang LiChuan’s shoulder: “Let’s go, brother’s taking you to eat.”
Jiang LiChuan shook off Jiang Su’s hand: “You sneaky bastard, don’t touch me.”
He’d actually recorded a video of him drunk and rolling under the table.
Xiao Qi had changed, become so insidious!
Xu Mocheng had also seen Jiang Su send the video, but didn’t know its contents and was extremely curious: “SuSu, what video is it? Let me see!”
Jiang LiChuan glared at Xu Mocheng, threatening him: “If you dare watch, I’ll have you assassinated.”
Xu Mocheng: “Oh.” So scared.
Jiang LiChuan: “…” The other party was too cooperative, leaving him feeling he had no room to perform.
…
Huo Qingyan’s discharge day was Saturday.
It was also the day After Divorce, Are You Happy? started filming.
The live broadcast was scheduled from 8 PM to 10 PM, peak viewing hours.
Jiang Su arrived at the studio at 6 PM.
Everything was ready. While waiting in the lounge, Jiang Su received a call from Zhou Fu.
Zhou Fu called specifically to tell him about Huo Qingyan’s discharge.
“Mr. Huo was discharged today,” Zhou Fu said, explaining, “I thought, since you saved Mr. Huo, he should tell you he’s been discharged.”
“Okay, I got it.” Jiang Su knew Zhou Fu was always meticulous.
Someone knocked on the lounge door.
Xu Mocheng had already opened it. Jiang Su said to Zhou Fu on the phone, “I have to start working.”
Zhou Fu: “Then I won’t disturb you. See you again, Mr. Jiang.”
Jiang Su had just hung up when Shen XiuMo walked in.
“Nervous?” Shen XiuMo smiled, approaching Jiang Su.
Jiang Su glanced at him: “It’s not like I’m going to the executioner’s block; why would I be nervous?”
Shen XiuMo was taken aback: “You might be asked sharp questions that are difficult to answer.”
Jiang Su raised an eyebrow: “Don’t the viewers want to see the guests’ awkward expressions when they can’t answer sharp questions?”
Shen XiuMo: “…” Honestly, he felt the conversation was over.
Jiang Su leaned forward, intently looking at Shen XiuMo, saying seriously, “Yes, that awkward expression you have now, not knowing what to say—that’s what the viewers want to see. They might even make it into an emoticon.”
Shen XiuMo was completely speechless: “…”
He had thought, since the show had no script and Fu Jin’s hosting style was quite aggressive, he’d give Jiang Su a heads-up by revealing some of the content.
He realized he was wrong.
Jiang Su was sharp-tongued; he’d even sparred with Huo Qingyan—how could he possibly lose to Fu Jin?
Shen XiuMo forced a smile: “You’re quite insightful.”
Jiang Su: “Perhaps a little more insightful than you.”
Shen XiuMo: “…”
Why did he come to chat with Jiang Su?
He felt he was humiliating himself.
Shen XiuMo stood up: “I’ll go check on the other guests.”
Jiang Su: “Goodbye, Mr. Shen.”
Shen XiuMo seemed to suddenly remember something and asked, “I haven’t seen Mr. Huo in a while. Have you seen him recently? Did something happen?”
He wasn’t intentionally bringing up Huo Qingyan to Jiang Su.
He hadn’t seen Huo Qingyan in a long time; he had seemed to want to reconcile with Jiang Su, but then suddenly disappeared.
Only a couple of days ago did he vaguely hear that Huo Qingyan had been hospitalized.
He felt sorry; he didn’t know what serious illness he had, or if he could be saved.
If he couldn’t be saved, Huo Qingyan would have one more thing he was inferior to him in—not living as long.
Jiang Su lazily said, “Who knows? People die every moment; maybe Huo Qingyan is already dead.”
Shen XiuMo: “He shouldn’t be that short-lived, should he?”
What a deep grudge, already cursing his ex-husband to death.
Previously, watching Jiang Su and Huo Qingyan interact, he hadn’t seen how much Jiang Su hated Huo Qingyan.
Seeing Shen XiuMo’s troubled expression, Jiang Su laughed: “Mr. Shen, I was just joking; you actually took it seriously? We’re about to go on the show; I’m just trying to get into the mood.”
Shen XiuMo’s mental state collapsed: “Don’t talk anymore; I’m going out.”
