Chapter 82: I Don’t Like Outsiders Interfering in My Affairs
The Jiang family’s dislike for Huo Qingyan wasn’t new; Zhou Fu had known about it for a while.
But in his previous interactions with Jiang Li Chuan, he hadn’t felt this level of hatred.
This made Zhou Fu suspect that Jiang Li Chuan’s dislike of Huo Qingyan wasn’t simply because of Huo Qingyan’s past treatment of Jiang Su.
There seemed to be something more serious.
Something so serious that even Huo Qingyan’s self-sacrificing rescue couldn’t be forgiven.
…
When Huo Qingyan came out of the operating room, it was dinner time.
The doctor instructed him to stay for observation for a few days before discharge.
The doctor had just left when Lu Jue and the police arrived at the hospital.
“How is Mr. Huo?” The weariness on Lu Jue’s face was even deeper.
Zhou Fu knew Lu Jue had been busy with the finals, exhausted from lack of sleep.
After all, they were cousins who grew up together, and Zhou Fu couldn’t help but feel pity, sighing softly. “The surgery is done; he can go home to recuperate after a few days of observation.”
Lu Jue’s expression relaxed slightly. A broken arm was fortunate.
The situation was sudden. Zhou Fu had been busy sending Huo Qingyan to the hospital for surgery and left the follow-up to Lu Jue.
Lu Jue came now with the investigation results.
Two children were playing and one accidentally bumped into Jiang Su.
Huo Qingyan, trying to save him, fell as well.
Since both children were under twelve, there was no criminal liability, not even mandatory custodial education.
Such incidents usually end with compensation from the guardians.
After the police explained the situation, their gaze swept back and forth between Jiang Su and Huo Qingyan. Neither looked like they lacked money.
This was going to be troublesome.
After hearing the investigation results, Jiang Su asked, “Where are the two children?”
Lu Jue said, “One of them came with us; he wants to apologize.”
Xu Mochen asked, “Only one?”
They were injured so badly, and only one child came to apologize?
The children were irresponsible, but what about the adults?
The police explained, “One child’s grandmother is paralyzed, and the other child has no parents.”
Huo Qingyan, who had been silent, said, “Let the child in.”
The child was quickly brought in.
Seeing the crowd, the child nervously clenched his hands, his head bowed low.
He was still wearing the white clothes from the video, the polite child who had spoken to Jiang Su.
He looked around, finally focusing on Jiang Su, timidly saying, “I’m sorry…”
He remembered Jiang Su; Jiang Su had spoken to him before. Out of everyone here, only Jiang Su seemed kind.
Jiang Su looked at him, his tone gentle. “Where’s your friend?”
The child shook his head. “I don’t know.”
Neither Jiang Su nor Huo Qingyan lacked money.
Besides, the child’s family couldn’t afford to compensate them.
They couldn’t do anything to the child, so they let the child leave with the police.
Xu Mochen felt aggrieved, coldly snorting. “What kind of thing is this? Did we suffer for nothing?”
The others remained silent.
Because the situation seemed unsolvable.
If the other party were an adult, they could retaliate privately if they were angry.
But the other party was a child. What could they do?
Xu Mochen’s phone rang. “I’ll take a call.”
As soon as Xu Mochen left, Huo Qingyan instructed Zhou Fu, “Take your cousin out.”
“Okay.” Zhou Fu understood. Huo Qingyan probably wanted to speak to Jiang Su alone.
Once Zhou Fu and Lu Jue left, only Jiang Su and Huo Qingyan remained in the room.
Jiang Su looked at Huo Qingyan, his gaze calm, his tone devoid of unnecessary emotion. “Thank you for today.”
Huo Qingyan remained silent for a moment, not directly responding to Jiang Su’s thanks. “Be careful lately.”
From Huo Qingyan’s eyes, Jiang Su saw that Huo Qingyan, like him, found the incident strange.
The competition venue was in the most bustling area.
Considering the child’s family background, his presence there seemed unusual.
The police explained that the two children knew about the game finals and wanted to watch but had no money, so they waited outside.
If they wanted to watch the competition, why were they waiting at the side entrance instead of the main entrance?
It seemed like an accident, but many things didn’t add up.
“I’ll investigate this,” Huo Qingyan said, his face pale, but his brows sharper.
Jiang Su’s expression dimmed slightly. “I thank you for saving me, but you know, I don’t like outsiders interfering in my affairs.”
Although Huo Qingyan was the one injured, if someone had intentionally caused this, it was clearly aimed at him.
Trying to deal with Huo Qingyan with such a small trick was useless.
Huo Qingyan’s expression faltered, his eyes slightly darkened. “I didn’t want to interfere in your affairs, I just…”
Jiang Su interrupted him. “Get some rest. I’ll visit you tomorrow.”
After all, Huo Qingyan was injured because of him; it wouldn’t do to not visit.
Xu Mochen happened to return after his call.
He sensed the unusual atmosphere in the ward and noticed that only Jiang Su and Huo Qingyan were present.
He frowned and asked, “Where’s Zhou Tezhu?”
“He took Lu Jue,” Jiang Su said, starting to leave. “Let’s go.”
“Eh?” Xu Mochen felt like he missed something.
As he followed Jiang Su out, he looked back at Huo Qingyan.
Huo Qingyan leaned against the head of the bed, his demeanor as usual, but Xu Mochen felt a sense of dejection about him.
Before leaving, Xu Mochen said, “Mr. Huo, we’re leaving now.”
…
Leaving the ward, Xu Mochen asked Jiang Su, “Are we just letting this go?”
Jiang Su thoughtfully said, “Let’s find Lu Jue tomorrow.”
He needed to find out who knew he would be at the competition venue for the performance matches.
Jiang Li Chuan contacted him last night. Before his appearance, only a few people from the organizer knew he would be there.
The two performance matches were short, only about an hour, excluding preparation time.
Finding two children to wait at the side entrance to create an accident within an hour didn’t seem feasible.
It had to be pre-planned.
Otherwise, it was truly an accident.
Xu Mochen understood. “You think someone orchestrated this, targeting you?”
“It’s possible,” Jiang Su said.
Xu Mochen nodded. “Exactly. Intentionally using two children to create an accident, making it impossible to pursue responsibility. It’s frustrating. If someone is secretly sabotaging things, it’s definitely for revenge.”
